Shrek Cast: Every Voice Actor and Who Plays Whom

Mike Myers voices Shrek, Eddie Murphy voices Donkey and Cameron Diaz voices Princess Fiona, and they are billed first, second and third in all four main films: Shrek (2001), Shrek 2 (2004), Shrek the Third (2007) and Shrek Forever After (2010). The cast table covers the principal voices across those films and the two Puss in Boots spin-offs, with billing taken from the TMDB credits.

Mike Myers voices Shrek, Eddie Murphy voices Donkey and Cameron Diaz voices Princess Fiona in all four main films. In Shrek (2001), Myers is credited as Shrek and as one of the Blind Mice, while Murphy plays the talkative Donkey who joins Shrek on the road and Diaz plays the princess he is sent to rescue from a castle guarded by a dragon.

John Lithgow played Lord Farquaad in Shrek (2001). Farquaad is the short tempered ruler who banishes fairy tale creatures to Shrek's swamp and then offers Shrek a deal to win it back. Lithgow is billed fourth, directly behind the central trio, and Vincent Cassel follows as Monsieur Hood. The villain has his own Lord Farquaad page, and the wider ensemble sits on the Shrek characters index.

No production source for Shrek (2001) states that the film was made as a mockery of Disney, so the answer on the record is that the claim is unconfirmed. What the credits do show is a fairy tale ensemble around the leads: Chris Miller voices Geppetto and the Magic Mirror, Cody Cameron voices Pinocchio and the Three Pigs, Michael Galasso voices Peter Pan, Conrad Vernon voices the Gingerbread Man and Bobby Block voices Baby Bear. The setup itself turns on those characters being banished to a swamp by Lord Farquaad. In my opinion, that reads as a send-up of fairy tale conventions in general, but that is a reading of the film and not a stated intent from the filmmakers.

Antonio Banderas, Julie Andrews, John Cleese, Rupert Everett and Jennifer Saunders joined the Shrek cast in Shrek 2 (2004), followed by Justin Timberlake in Shrek the Third (2007) and Jon Hamm in Shrek Forever After (2010). In Shrek 2, Andrews voices Queen Lillian, Cleese voices King Harold, Everett voices Prince Charming, Saunders voices Fairy Godmother and Banderas voices Puss in Boots. Larry King appears as an Ugly Stepsister, and Joan Rivers voices herself.

Shrek the Third added Timberlake as Prince Artie, John Krasinski as Lancelot, Ian McShane as Captain Hook, Seth Rogen as the Ship Captain and Eric Idle as Merlin. Amy Poehler voices Snow White, with Megan Hilty credited for her singing voice, while Maya Rudolph and Amy Sedaris voice Rapunzel and Cinderella. Larry King returns there as Doris, and Regis Philbin voices Mabel.

Shrek Forever After brought in Jon Hamm as Brogan, Jane Lynch as Gretched, Craig Robinson as Cookie and Walt Dohrn as Rumpelstiltskin. King is again Doris and Philbin is again Mabel in that film.

Antonio Banderas voices Puss in Boots in Puss in Boots (2011) and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022), alongside Salma Hayek Pinault as Kitty Softpaws in both. Puss in Boots (2011) also features Zach Galifianakis as Humpty Alexander Dumpty, with Billy Bob Thornton and Amy Sedaris as Jack and Jill. Guillermo del Toro voices Moustache Man and Comandante and is also credited as an executive producer, according to Syfy.

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish keeps Banderas and Hayek Pinault and adds Harvey Guillén as Perrito, Wagner Moura as Wolf and Florence Pugh as Goldilocks. Olivia Colman and Ray Winstone voice Mama Bear and Papa Bear, John Mulaney voices Jack Horner and Da'Vine Joy Randolph voices Mama Luna. See the Shrek films page for every release.

Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson directed Shrek (2001), Andrew Adamson, Kelly Asbury and Conrad Vernon directed Shrek 2 (2004), Chris Miller directed Shrek the Third (2007) and Mike Mitchell directed Shrek Forever After (2010). The directors table lists every film, including the two spin-offs, with the composer for each, using credits from TMDB and Box Office Mojo.

Screen Daily reported that Chris Miller took over for the third film, and he went on to direct Puss in Boots (2011), which makes him the one director credited on both a main film and a spin-off. Box Office Mojo also credits Raman Hui as a co-director of Shrek the Third, while TMDB lists Miller alone. Joel Crawford directed Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022), which Cartoon Brew reported as having been developed through several directors and concepts before its release.

Music changed hands as well. John Powell scored Shrek, Harry Gregson-Williams scored Shrek 2, Shrek the Third and Shrek Forever After, Henry Jackman scored Puss in Boots and Heitor Pereira scored The Last Wish. Track details live on the Shrek soundtrack page.

Several filmmakers also appear in the TMDB voice credits. Andrew Adamson voices the Captain of the Guards in Shrek 2, Chris Miller voices Geppetto and the Magic Mirror in Shrek, and Kelly Asbury voices a Page, an Elf and two Noblemen in Shrek 2. Conrad Vernon is the Gingerbread Man, and Mike Mitchell voices Andy Beanstalk in Puss in Boots (2011). Aron Warner, credited as a producer on Shrek the Third by Box Office Mojo, voices the Wolf in Shrek 2, Shrek the Third and Shrek Forever After.

Shrek 5 is reported to be directed by Walt Dohrn, Conrad Vernon and Brad Ableson, with a confirmed US release date of June 30, 2027. Variety Australia (28 November 2025) also reported Gina Shay and Chris Meledandri as producers, and Variety reported the date. For the latest, see Shrek 5.

Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz play Shrek, Donkey and Princess Fiona in all four main films, and no main role was recast after Shrek (2001) was released. The one famous change came earlier: CBS News reported that Chris Farley recorded most of his lines as Shrek before his death, after which the producers restarted with Myers and his Scottish accent. That single decision set the sound of the whole series, and it is the only recasting of a lead on record.

Antonio Banderas, Julie Andrews and John Cleese appear in Shrek 2, Shrek the Third and Shrek Forever After, and Banderas also leads both Puss in Boots spin-offs. Larry King changes roles, first as an Ugly Stepsister in Shrek 2 and then as Doris in Shrek the Third and Shrek Forever After. Rupert Everett voices Prince Charming in Shrek 2 and Shrek the Third, whereas Jennifer Saunders is billed as Fairy Godmother in Shrek 2 alone, and John Lithgow is billed as Lord Farquaad in the first film alone.

Voice work by the filmmakers is its own kind of continuity. Conrad Vernon voices Gingerbread Man (Gingy) in all four main films and in Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, and Aron Warner voices the Wolf in the last three main films. Walt Dohrn debuts as Rumpelstiltskin in Shrek Forever After and is reported to return for Shrek 5.

Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz are reported to return as Shrek, Donkey and Princess Fiona in Shrek 5, according to Variety Australia (28 November 2025). Conrad Vernon is reported as Gingerbread Man (Gingy) and Walt Dohrn as Rumpelstiltskin.

Newcomers are also reported. Zendaya was revealed on 28 February 2025 as Felicia, and Marcello Hernández and Skyler Gisondo are reported as Fergus and Farkle. If you want a then and now comparison, the answer for the three leads is simple: the same trio billed in 2001 is the trio reported for the film due on June 30, 2027.
