Spider-Man Movies: What the Series Covers

The Spider-Man movies are an 11-film theatrical series that runs from Spider-Man (2002) to Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026), covering three live action eras and one animated universe. Each era has its own Peter Parker or its own Spider-Man, so the series is easiest to follow when you sort the films by universe first and by title second.

The first era is the Sam Raimi trilogy, with Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker. Spider-Man (2002) set Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin against Kirsten Dunst's Mary Jane Watson and earned about $811 million worldwide on a $139 million budget, according to Box Office Mojo. Spider-Man 2 (2004) added Alfred Molina as Otto Octavius and won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects at the 77th Academy Awards. Spider-Man 3 (2007) crowded in Thomas Haden Church as Sandman and Topher Grace as Venom, and it grossed about $887 million worldwide on a $258 million budget.

The second era is two films, and Marc Webb directed both, with Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy. The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) pitted Peter against Rhys Ifans as the Lizard, and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014) brought in Jamie Foxx as Electro and Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn. The Amazing Spider-Man earned about $759 million worldwide and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 about $710 million.

The third era belongs to Tom Holland and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Jon Watts directed Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), with Michael Keaton as the Vulture, which earned about $881 million worldwide. He then directed Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019), with Jake Gyllenhaal as Mysterio, which grossed more than $1.1 billion. Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) followed, built around a Doctor Strange spell that pulls in people from other universes, and its credited cast includes Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, Alfred Molina, Willem Dafoe and Jamie Foxx. It earned more than $1.9 billion. Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026), directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, adds Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle and Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova. It has earned more than $2.5 billion worldwide, making it the highest grossing film in the series.

The fourth strand is the animated Spider-Verse, centered on Miles Morales (voiced by Shameik Moore). Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) was directed by Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey and Rodney Rothman. It paired Miles with Jake Johnson's Peter B. Parker and Hailee Steinfeld's Gwen Stacy, and earned about $395 million worldwide on a $90 million budget. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023), directed by Kemp Powers, Justin K. Thompson and Joaquim Dos Santos, introduced Oscar Isaac as Miguel O'Hara and set Miles on Earth-1610 and Gwen on Earth-65. It earned about $691 million worldwide on a $150 million budget.

The series is four separate sagas that share one hero. That framing explains why a new viewer can start at almost any era without feeling lost, and why the multiverse in Spider-Man: No Way Home works as the one bridge between the live action eras. Where Should You Start With the Spider-Man Series?

Start with Spider-Man (2002) and watch in release order, which ends with Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026). The full guide to Spider-Man movies in order sets out both orders film by film.

Release order runs Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, Spider-Man 3, The Amazing Spider-Man, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Spider-Man: Far From Home, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Chronological order moves only the two animated films to the end, so it runs like this:

  1. Spider-Man (2002)
  2. Spider-Man 2
  3. Spider-Man 3
  4. The Amazing Spider-Man
  5. The Amazing Spider-Man 2
  6. Spider-Man: Homecoming
  7. Spider-Man: Far From Home
  8. Spider-Man: No Way Home
  9. Spider-Man: Brand New Day
  10. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
  11. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

So, where should a newcomer begin? Pick the Peter Parker you want: start with Spider-Man (2002) for Tobey Maguire, Spider-Man: Homecoming for Tom Holland, or Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse for Miles Morales. Each of those starting points is self contained enough to work without the others.

What Is the Next Spider-Man Movie?

The next Spider-Man movie is Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, an animated film that is still in production and set to open in US theaters on June 18, 2027. It would be the twelfth film in the series and the third in the Spider-Verse strand, following Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

The date has moved several times. Sony first set March 29, 2024, then June 4, 2027, then June 25, 2027. On September 25, 2025 it pulled the film forward one week to Father's Day weekend. Neither a UK nor an Australian date has been announced.

On April 13, 2026, TheWrap described new footage that Sony showed at CinemaCon. Its report names Shameik Moore as Miles Morales, Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy, Jake Johnson as Peter B. Parker, Jason Schwartzman as the Spot, Daniel Kaluuya as Hobie Brown, Karan Soni as Pavitr Prabhakar and Mahershala Ali as Uncle Aaron. Sony has not officially confirmed that cast.

TMDB credits Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson as directors, Phil Lord, Christopher Miller and David Callaham as writers, and Daniel Pemberton as composer, all reported and open to change. The next Spider-Man movie page tracks the status, and the Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse trailer page collects official footage as it appears.
