Where Can You Watch Shrek in the US?

In the US, Peacock is the main subscription home for the saga, carrying Shrek (2001) (directed by Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson), Shrek 2 (2004), Shrek the Third (2007), Shrek Forever After (2010) and Puss in Boots (2011). Shrek 2 and Shrek the Third also show up on fuboTV. With no subscription, The Roku Channel is the cheapest option, listing Shrek the Third (2007) and Shrek Forever After (2010) free with ads.

In the US, Netflix lists only Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022), and Disney+ lists none of the six films. Puss in Boots (2011) appears through the HBO Max Amazon Channel as well as Peacock. When a film is not on a subscription service, all six can be rented or bought on Amazon Video, Apple TV, Google Play Movies, YouTube and Fandango at Home, and all six are rated PG in the US.

Where Can You Watch Shrek in the UK?

In the UK, Netflix lists the four main films, and BBC iPlayer lists the same four as free to stream, which makes this the easiest country for a full marathon. Puss in Boots (2011) streams on Netflix, Prime Video and Now TV Cinema. Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022) has no subscription listing, so it is rent or buy through Apple TV, Rakuten TV, Amazon Video, Sky Store or YouTube. Five of the six films carry a U certificate, and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is rated PG.

Where Can You Watch Shrek in Australia?

In Australia, Shrek streams on Netflix, Stan, BINGE, Paramount Plus and Foxtel Now, and Prime Video adds Shrek the Third (2007) and Shrek Forever After (2010). The same five services list Puss in Boots (2011), while Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022) is the exception, with only BINGE and Foxtel Now listing it. Rentals and purchases run through Apple TV, Amazon Video and YouTube, and Fetch TV carries every film except Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022). Every film is rated PG in Australia.

Which Shrek Film Should You Stream First?

The best film to press play on first depends on what you want from the series, and the production history of each entry helps explain the differences. Which one to start with is a matter of taste, and the recommendations that follow are my opinion.

Start with Shrek (2001) if you want the original setup: a grumpy ogre in his swamp, Lord Farquaad's banishment of fairy tale creatures, and the deal to rescue Princess Fiona from a dragon-guarded castle. CBS News reported that Chris Farley recorded most of the lines before his death and that the producers restarted with Mike Myers and his Scottish accent, so the voice you hear in every sequel is the result of that restart. The Numbers lists the budget at $50 million, while Box Office Mojo lists $60 million.

Shrek 2 (2004) is the one to pick for the sharpest comedy in the run. The Euronews retrospective notes it screened in competition at Cannes on May 15, 2004, and it is the series' biggest earner at more than $900 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo. The Far Far Away arrival, with King Harold and Queen Lillian discovering their daughter and son-in-law are both ogres, gives it a stronger comic engine than the first film's fetch quest. Its soundtrack includes Accidentally in Love by Counting Crows and Holding Out for a Hero by Bonnie Tyler, and Euronews reports that two versions of Holding Out for a Hero exist. Computer Graphics World's 2004 coverage of the film's renderfarm, hair count and Puss rig shows how far the technical ambition had moved since the first film.

Shrek the Third (2007) is the series' first film under a new director: Screen Daily reported that Chris Miller took over, and that the film opened across 4,122 theaters with an animated opening weekend record. In my view it is the loosest of the four main films, because the search for Artie pulls Shrek, Donkey and Puss away from the swamp and the Far Far Away court that anchored the second film.

Shrek Forever After (2010) has the tightest premise of the sequels: a settled family man at his children's birthday party, Rumpelstiltskin's offer of one frightening day, and a contract signed without reading the fine print. TheWrap reported that it opened the Tribeca Film Festival on April 21 as the first 3D film to do so, with the wide release following on May 21, and the New York premiere was held at the Ziegfeld Theatre. It also costs the most of the four, at $165 million according to Box Office Mojo and The Numbers.

The two Puss in Boots films work differently from the main four. Puss in Boots (2011), directed by Chris Miller, is a Western-flavored heist in which Puss, Kitty Softpaws and Humpty Dumpty climb a beanstalk toward a giant's castle. Computer Graphics World describes a procedural beanstalk, and Guillermo del Toro served as executive producer and voiced Moustache Man / Comandante, according to Syfy Wire. It sits first in chronological order even though it was fifth in release order. Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022), directed by Joel Crawford, trades the earlier glossy look for a fairy tale painting style. Syfy Wire credits the painterly idea to Nate Wragg and notes a hand-drawn opening, and TheWrap describes stepped animation and a distinct palette for the hooded Wolf. Its story, a near-fatal accident at a party followed by the hunt for a wishing star, is more serious than anything in the main four, which suits a viewer who finds the swamp comedy too light. Since it is the only film in the series on Netflix in the US, it is also the easiest to start with there.

What About Shrek 5?

Shrek 5 is not on any streaming service because it has not been released. Variety reported in August 2025 that Universal moved it to June 30, 2027 in US theaters, and it is in production. The Shrek 5 guide follows its progress. To plan the rest of your viewing, the Shrek movies in order guide lays out the release and chronological sequences, and the Shrek movies hub lists every film.
