Ocean's Eleven Prequel: Release Date, Cast and Status
The Ocean's Eleven prequel is in production, and Warner Bros. has dated it for a US theatrical release on June 25, 2027. The film is still officially untitled, with Bradley Cooper reported to write, direct and star opposite Margot Robbie in a story set at the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix.
Is the Ocean's Eleven Prequel Happening?
Yes, the Ocean's Eleven prequel is in production, and Warner Bros. has put a June 25, 2027 US date on it. The film still has no official title, which is why trades, fans and TMDB all call it the Ocean's Eleven prequel.
The current shape of the project came together in 2026. Variety Australia reported on March 14, 2026 that Bradley Cooper was at the top of the list to write and direct, and in talks to star opposite Margot Robbie, after Lee Isaac Chung left the director's chair. The same report said LuckyChap is producing for Warner Bros. and that the film was on track to shoot before the end of 2026. Warner Bros. had no comment at the time.
Ryan Gosling, who was attached earlier, is no longer on the film. Cameras have since started turning: Motorsport.com reported in August 2026 that Cooper was filming 1962 Grand Prix scenes in Monaco.
Who Is in the Ocean's Eleven Prequel Cast?
Nine actors are reported for the Ocean's Eleven prequel cast: Margot Robbie, Bradley Cooper, Wagner Moura, Monica Barbaro, Josh Gad, Vicky Krieps, George MacKay, Omar Sy and Lauren Ridloff. All nine rest on press reports rather than a studio announcement, so each is listed as reported.
Variety Australia reported Cooper's involvement on March 14, 2026, with Robbie as his costar and producer through LuckyChap. Monaco Life named Robbie, Moura, Barbaro and Gad on July 31, 2026, in its report on the Monaco waterfront shoot. The Hollywood Reporter followed on July 6, 2026 with Vicky Krieps, George MacKay, Omar Sy and Lauren Ridloff, and described Sy as in talks rather than signed. No character names have been reported for any of them.
Behind the camera, Variety Australia reports Cooper as director and co-writer with Carrie Solomon, with Robbie producing. George Clooney, who played Danny Ocean in the 2001 film (Frank Sinatra played him in Ocean's 11 (1960)), has no reported role in the prequel. The full ensemble across every film sits on the Ocean's Eleven cast page, and the profile for Danny Ocean covers the role across the series.

What We Know About the Ocean's Eleven Prequel So Far
Only the US date of June 25, 2027 is confirmed; the Warner Bros. and LuckyChap production, the Monaco shoot and the roles are reported.
Monaco Life reported filming scheduled for August 24 to 28, 2026 at Darse Sud and the Esplanade des Pêcheurs, with filming also in Nice and the wider Riviera shoot expected to continue into October. A Monaco government order cleared the waterfront for a "superproduction" without naming the film, and Monaco Life tied it to this production through matching casting call dates.
The starting point is a different kind of heist from the one Soderbergh staged. Ocean's Eleven (2001) was built around a vault shared by three casinos and a boxing night in Las Vegas, while the prequel is reported to unfold at the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix. The business case is easy to follow: Ocean's Eleven (2001) grossed about $451 million worldwide on an $85 million budget, according to Box Office Mojo, and Ocean's Eight earned about $298 million on $70 million.
In my opinion, a race weekend and a Robbie and Cooper pairing give Warner Bros. a way to restart the series without a Clooney and Pitt reunion, though that is an inference, and the title, the roles and the villain all remain unconfirmed. If you are new to the series, start with Ocean's Eleven (2001) and Ocean's 11 (1960), then check the Ocean's Eleven prequel trailer page once footage appears.
