Star Wars TV Shows: How Many Are There and Where Do You Start?
Star Wars has ten TV shows with full entries: three animated series (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels and Star Wars: The Bad Batch) and seven live action series. Start with The Mandalorian season 1, then watch Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels before Ahsoka. Eight of the ten were made for Disney+, Star Wars: The Clone Wars returned to the service for its final season in 2020, and Star Wars Rebels aired on Disney XD. Visions, Resistance and Maul: Shadow Lord sit outside the ten and are not detailed, although Lucasfilm names Maul: Shadow Lord as a related series on its Ahsoka page.
What Star Wars series are coming out? Ahsoka season 2 is the only Star Wars TV season with a confirmed date: it arrives on Disney+ on January 20, 2027, a date revealed at the D23 Disney Studio Showcase. No Star Wars TV season premieres in 2026, because the year's big release was the film The Mandalorian and Grogu on May 22, 2026. The next theatrical release is Star Wars: Starfighter, due May 28, 2027.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars: The Animated War Between Two Films
Star Wars: The Clone Wars is a computer animated series set between Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (2002) and Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005), both directed by George Lucas. It follows Jedi such as Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin's apprentice Ahsoka Tano, along with the clone troopers who fight beside them. George Lucas is credited as creator, and Dave Filoni as supervising director and executive producer.
The theatrical film Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008 film) opened on August 15, 2008 and introduced Ahsoka, and the series followed on Cartoon Network, with season 1 premiering on October 3, 2008. Seasons 1 to 5 ran to 2013. Season 6, The Lost Missions, reached Netflix on March 7, 2014 with all 13 episodes released at once, after Cartoon Network had canceled the show. Season 7, The Final Season, streamed weekly on Disney+ from February 21 to May 4, 2020 across 12 episodes, after Filoni announced the revival at San Diego Comic-Con on July 19, 2018. Across seven seasons, that makes 133 episodes.
The voice cast includes Matt Lanter as Anakin, Ashley Eckstein as Ahsoka, James Arnold Taylor as Obi-Wan, Dee Bradley Baker as Captain Rex, Tom Kane as Yoda, Corey Burton as Count Dooku, Katee Sackhoff as Bo-Katan and Sam Witwer as Maul. The final season follows a new elite clone squad and then the push to retake Mandalore from Maul, and its story leads into Revenge of the Sith.
Star Wars Rebels: The Ghost Crew Against the Empire
Star Wars Rebels is an animated Lucasfilm Animation series about the crew of the starship Ghost, a small group who resist the Galactic Empire after it has taken over a remote planet. It opened with a one hour TV movie, Spark of Rebellion, on October 3, 2014, and the weekly series began on Disney XD on October 13, 2014. The premiere drew about 6.5 million viewers worldwide, with about 2.7 million watching the US Disney Channel airing, according to Next TV.
The show is set while the Empire is consolidating its control, in the era between the prequel and original trilogies, and Disney's own page gives no exact year gap. Dave Filoni, Simon Kinberg and Carrie Beck are credited as creators. The voice cast includes Taylor Gray as Ezra Bridger, Freddie Prinze Jr. as Kanan, Vanessa Marshall as Hera, Steve Blum as Zeb, Tiya Sircar as Sabine, David Oyelowo as Agent Kallus and Jason Isaacs as the Inquisitor.
Its characters travel well beyond the show: Ahsoka continues Sabine Wren, Hera Syndulla, Ezra Bridger, Chopper and Grand Admiral Thrawn, and Steve Blum is credited as Zeb in The Mandalorian and Grogu.
The Mandalorian: Is There a Season 4?
No Mandalorian season 4 has been ordered, announced or canceled; the story continued in the film The Mandalorian and Grogu, released in US theaters on May 22, 2026. Lucasfilm announced the film on January 9, 2024, with Jon Favreau directing and Pedro Pascal starring.
The Mandalorian is a live action Disney+ series created by Jon Favreau about Din Djarin, a lone Mandalorian bounty hunter whose latest job leads him to protect a mysterious child who becomes known as Grogu. It was the first live action Star Wars TV series. Season 1 ran from November 12 to December 27, 2019, season 2 from October 30 to December 18, 2020, and season 3 from March 1 to April 19, 2023, each with eight episodes. TMDB also lists seven specials from 2023, which are not counted as a season.
The series is set after Return of the Jedi and before The Force Awakens, in the period when the New Republic has little authority in the galaxy's outer reaches. Pedro Pascal stars, with Katee Sackhoff as Bo-Katan Kryze, Carl Weathers as Greef Karga, Emily Swallow as the Armorer, Giancarlo Esposito as Moff Gideon, Gina Carano as Cara Dune and Temuera Morrison as Boba Fett. ILM built its first full scale StageCraft LED Volume at Manhattan Beach Studios for the show, and ILM reports 15 Emmy nominations and 7 wins. Characters from the series have their own pages: Din Djarin and Grogu.
Star Wars: The Bad Batch: Clone Force 99 After the War
Star Wars: The Bad Batch is an animated Lucasfilm Animation series on Disney+ that follows Clone Force 99, a squad of five genetically enhanced clone soldiers, as they live as mercenaries on the run from the new Galactic Empire. A young clone girl named Omega travels with them. It is set directly after the end of the Clone Wars and Order 66, in the early days of the Empire.
The series ran for three seasons and 47 episodes. Season 1 aired from May 4 to August 13, 2021 (16 episodes), season 2 from January 4 to March 29, 2023 (16 episodes), and season 3 from February 21 to May 1, 2024 (15 episodes). Season 3 was billed as the final season, and TMDB lists the series as ended, so no further seasons are confirmed. Dave Filoni is credited as creator, Jennifer Corbett as developer and head writer, and Brad Rau as supervising director.
Clone Force 99 first appeared in the final season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which makes this show a sequel and spin-off of that series. Dee Bradley Baker voices the Bad Batch and many clone troopers, and Michelle Ang voices Omega, with Rhea Perlman as Cid, Noshir Dalal as Vice Admiral Rampart and Stephen Stanton as Tarkin.
The Book of Boba Fett: A Crime Lord on Tatooine
The Book of Boba Fett is a live action Disney+ series from Lucasfilm, created by Jon Favreau, in which bounty hunter Boba Fett tries to hold and run the Tatooine territory once ruled by Jabba the Hutt, with help from Fennec Shand. It has one season of seven chapters, which began streaming on December 29, 2021 and ended with its finale on February 9, 2022, with episodes arriving weekly on Wednesdays. Temuera Morrison plays Boba Fett and Ming-Na Wen plays Fennec Shand.
Boba Fett first appeared in The Empire Strikes Back (1980), directed by Irvin Kershner, and this series sits within the timeline of The Mandalorian, which teased him in an end credit scene after its season 2 finale. Robert Rodriguez directed Chapter 14 of The Mandalorian, which reintroduced the character, then became an executive producer here and directed the finale, Chapter 7: In the Name of Honor, in which he also voices the mayor of Mos Espa.
Lucasfilm announced the series on December 21, 2020, shortly after Jeremy Bulloch, the original Boba Fett actor, died. The executive producers are Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Robert Rodriguez, Kathleen Kennedy and Colin Wilson, and no second season had been announced at the time of the finale.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Ten Years After Revenge of the Sith
Obi-Wan Kenobi is a six-episode live action Disney+ limited series set 10 years after Revenge of the Sith, released May 27 to June 22, 2022, in which Ewan McGregor returns as the exiled Jedi Master on Tatooine. It sits in the gap between the prequel trilogy and A New Hope. When young Leia Organa is kidnapped, he leaves his quiet exile and finds himself in the path of the Empire's Inquisitors and of Darth Vader. The story ends in full and does not rely on a cliffhanger.
Hayden Christensen plays Darth Vader and Anakin Skywalker, with James Earl Jones providing Vader's voice, and Vivien Lyra Blair plays Leia. The cast also includes Moses Ingram as Reva Sevander, Rupert Friend as the Grand Inquisitor, Sung Kang as the Fifth Brother, Kumail Nanjiani as Haja Estree and Indira Varma as Tala Durith. Deborah Chow directed all six episodes, using StageCraft LED wall technology alongside location shoots, a backlot and traditional studio work.
The project began as a planned standalone Obi-Wan feature film before being reworked as a series. Joby Harold joined as writer in April 2020, replacing Hossein Amini, who left in January 2020 when production was shut down and the series was retooled. The first two episodes premiered together on a Friday, with the rest weekly on Wednesdays.
Andor: The Rebellion Before Rogue One
Andor is a live action Disney+ spy drama set before Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, following Cassian Andor from thief to rebel across two seasons and 24 episodes. Lucasfilm made it about the early days of the fight against the Galactic Empire. Season 1 aired from September 21 to November 23, 2022 (12 episodes, with three released at the premiere), and season 2 aired from April 22 to May 13, 2025 (12 episodes, in four blocks of three).
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016) was directed by Gareth Edwards. Season 1 covers one year, season 2 covers the next four years in four three episode arcs, and the final episodes run straight into the opening of the film. Tony Gilroy is creator and showrunner, and he co-wrote that film. Diego Luna plays Cassian, with Stellan Skarsgård as Luthen Rael, Genevieve O'Reilly as Mon Mothma, Adria Arjona as Bix Caleen, Denise Gough as Dedra Meero, Kyle Soller as Syril Karn and Fiona Shaw as Maarva Andor. Ben Mendelsohn returns as Orson Krennic and Alan Tudyk as the voice of K-2SO.
Gilroy told Fortune the 24 episodes cost about $650 million in total, and a source told Variety each episode cost about $20 million after tax incentives. He first planned five seasons but concluded there was no physical way to make that many, so the show ended after two, and no renewal has been announced.
Ahsoka: Season 2 Arrives in January 2027
Ahsoka is a live action Disney+ series that follows former Jedi Ahsoka Tano as she investigates a new threat to a galaxy still recovering after the Empire's fall, and its season 2 is confirmed for January 20, 2027. Season 1 ran from August 22 to October 3, 2023 across eight episodes, centered on the search for Grand Admiral Thrawn, and it is set in the New Republic era. Dave Filoni, who created the character for Star Wars: The Clone Wars, is the series creator and executive producer, and he directed the premiere.
Rosario Dawson plays Ahsoka, with Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, Eman Esfandi as Ezra Bridger, David Tennant as Huyang, Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker, Lars Mikkelsen as Thrawn and Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll. Lucasfilm lists The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Star Wars Rebels, Tales of the Jedi, Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Maul: Shadow Lord as related series, which is why this show rewards earlier viewing more than most.
Season 2 was announced in development in January 2024, and its teaser trailer and premiere date were revealed at the D23 Disney Studio Showcase with Filoni and the stars on the panel. Ariana Greenblatt is credited as young Ahsoka for the season, and Lucasfilm notes the date falls one month before the theatrical re-release for the original film's 50th anniversary.
The Acolyte: A Mystery in the High Republic
The Acolyte is a live action Disney+ mystery thriller set in the High Republic era, about 100 years before The Phantom Menace; it ran for one season of eight episodes in 2024 and was canceled. The first two episodes arrived on June 4, 2024, with the other six weekly on Tuesdays until the finale on July 16. Good Morning America reported the cancellation on August 20, 2024, with no second season ordered.
The setting is about a century before Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999), directed by George Lucas, and Variety describes it as taking place in the final days of the High Republic. A Jedi Master is pulled into an investigation of a string of crimes, and a former Padawan reunites with her old master while secrets from their shared past come out. Leslye Headland created the series, served as showrunner and executive producer, and directed the first episode. Variety first reported in April 2020 that she was developing a Star Wars series for Disney+, and its November 8, 2022 report said production was underway.
Amandla Stenberg plays Mae and Osha Aniseya, Lee Jung-jae plays Master Sol and Manny Jacinto plays Qimir. The cast also includes Dafne Keen, Charlie Barnett, Rebecca Henderson, Joonas Suotamo and Carrie-Anne Moss.
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew: Lost Kids in the New Republic Era
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is a live action Lucasfilm adventure series on Disney+, set in the New Republic era, about four children aged ten from the planet At Attin who get lost in the wider galaxy and end up traveling with a mysterious Force using pirate named Jod Na Nawood. It premiered on December 2, 2024 with two episodes, and the other six followed weekly, ending on January 14, 2025. Jon Watts and Christopher Ford created it, and Ford compared the series to Amblin adventures such as The Goonies.
It takes place after Return of the Jedi and in the same period as The Mandalorian. Jude Law plays Jod Na Nawood, with Ravi Cabot-Conyers as Wim, Ryan Kiera Armstrong as Fern, Kyriana Kratter as KB, Robert Timothy Smith as Neel, Nick Frost as the voice of SM-33 and Marti Matulis as Vane. Neel belongs to the same species as Max Rebo from Return of the Jedi.
Episodes were directed by Jon Watts (1 and 8), David Lowery (2 and 3), the Daniels (4), Jake Schreier (5), Bryce Dallas Howard (6) and Lee Isaac Chung (7). The production used StageCraft virtual production technology as The Mandalorian did, hired stop motion animator Phil Tippett, and brought back a retired ILM matte painter for a painting. No second season has been announced.
Star Wars TV Shows in Order: Which Series Should You Watch First?
Watch Star Wars TV shows in release order on a first viewing, and save story order for a rewatch. The later series lean on characters introduced earlier: Ahsoka draws on Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, and The Mandalorian and Grogu brings Zeb back from Rebels. Story order is better kept for a second pass, since several series share a period without a fixed gap between them, and a strict chronological run would open with The Acolyte, a show that never received a second season.
Andor is the best Star Wars TV series, in my opinion. Tony Gilroy built season 2 as four arcs of three episodes, each covering a different year, and the final episodes run straight into the opening of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which gives a prequel an unusual sense of destination. I would put Star Wars: The Clone Wars second, because it grows from the Hutt rescue errand of the 2008 film into the siege of Mandalore and the run up to Revenge of the Sith, which is a long way to travel in seven seasons.
If you want something lighter, look at Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, which Ford framed as an Amblin style adventure, rather than at Andor. The Mandalorian is the easiest door into the live action shows, with eight episode seasons and no homework.
Start with The Mandalorian season 1 as the easiest entry point, then follow release order with Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels before Ahsoka, which returns on January 20, 2027. You can check where each series streams on our where to watch page.
