Ice Age Spin Offs: Buck Wild and What Comes Next
Ice Age spin offs amount to one film so far: The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild (2022), directed by John Donkin and released on Disney+ in the US on January 28, 2022. The five theatrical films are the main saga, and the next film, Ice Age: Boiling Point, is set for February 5, 2027 in the US.

Ice Age Spin Offs: What Counts and What Does Not
The Ice Age spin offs list is short: The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild (2022) is the only feature film that sits outside the main saga. Every other release is one of the five theatrical films: Ice Age (2002), directed by Chris Wedge, then Ice Age: The Meltdown (2006) and Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (2009), both directed by Carlos Saldanha, followed by Ice Age: Continental Drift (2012), directed by Michael Thurmeier and Steve Martino, and Ice Age: Collision Course (2016), directed by Michael Thurmeier.
Buck Wild skipped theaters and went straight to Disney+, which is why it is filed as a spinoff rather than a sixth main film. If you are wondering whether a Scrat series or a set of shorts also belongs here, no other feature film has been released outside the main run, and the Scrat and Buck sections cover where those characters actually live.
Ice Age: Boiling Point, due in US theaters on February 5, 2027, is the next film in the series, and the ice age boiling point page covers it in full. For every film in sequence, see ice age movies in order, and for the complete list of releases visit the ice age movies hub.
What Is The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild?
The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild is an 82 minute animated film, directed by John Donkin, that arrived on Disney+ on January 28, 2022. It is rated PG in the US, U in the UK and PG in Australia. Simon Pegg voices Buck, joined by Vincent Tong as Crash, Aaron Harris as Eddie, Utkarsh Ambudkar as Orson and Justina Machado as Zee, and Batu Sener composed the score. A soundtrack album was released under the title The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack).
The setup is simple and aimed at younger viewers. Possum brothers Crash and Eddie set off an avalanche that wrecks the herd's summer home, and Manny, Sid, Diego and Ellie doubt the pair can look after themselves. The brothers leave camp to prove them wrong, wander into the Lost World, a land full of dinosaurs, and get chased by raptors until their old friend Buck, a one eyed weasel, rescues them. It is a dinosaur adventure built around the two characters who usually supply the background jokes, and it follows naturally from Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, where Buck lives among the dinosaurs in a lost jungle beneath the ice.
The herd sounds different here. Sean Kenin voices Manny, Dominique Jennings voices Ellie, Jake Green voices Sid and Skyler Stone voices Diego, and Pegg is the only returning voice actor from the earlier films, according to Wikipedia. As of November 3, 2026, JustWatch data via TMDB lists Disney+ as the streaming home in the US, UK and Australia. The full film entry is at ice age buck wild, and the streaming picture for every film is at where to watch ice age.
How Does Buck Wild End?Spoilers
Buck Wild ends with the heroes beating a would be ruler of the Lost World and the possum brothers choosing to stay there. The villain is Orson, a small Protoceratops who was once banished for his ambitions. He returns with a pack of raptors, takes over the watering hole and captures Buck, so Crash and Eddie team up with Zee and a Tyrannosaurus called Momma, and the rest of the herd joins the fight.
The brothers win by using fire breathing lizards to turn Orson's raptors against him, which ends his attempt to take over. Crash and Eddie then decide to live in the Lost World, and Manny, Sid, Diego and Ellie promise to visit often. The film also works as a pilot for a Buck Wild series.
Ice Age Buck Spin Off: Why Buck Leads It
Buck leads the one Ice Age spinoff because he is the character most closely tied to the dinosaur side of the series. He first appears in Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (2009), directed by Carlos Saldanha, as a daring one eyed weasel who has lived among the dinosaurs for years and is locked in a feud with a huge albino dinosaur called Rudy. Simon Pegg has voiced him since that third film, according to ABC7 Chicago, and Pegg is billed first in the Buck Wild cast on TMDB.
He returns in Ice Age: Collision Course (2016), directed by Michael Thurmeier, where he finds an ancient stone pillar showing that asteroids have wiped out life before and where the next big one will land. That discovery drives the herd's plan for the whole film, so Buck was already carrying plot well before he received a title of his own. The buck ice age character page covers his appearances, and ice age characters lists the rest of the ensemble.
Is There an Ice Age Scrat Spin Off?
No Scrat spinoff feature has been released, and his stories sit inside the main films. Scrat, voiced by Chris Wedge in Ice Age: The Meltdown and Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, is the acorn chasing creature who sets many of the series' biggest events in motion. In Ice Age: Continental Drift, his pursuit of the acorn cracks the Earth open and reshapes the continents, which pulls Manny, Sid, Diego and Granny out to sea on a floating slab of ice. In Ice Age: Collision Course, his chase accidentally sends asteroids toward Earth.
Gags that move the whole plot are a fair argument for a Scrat film, though none has been announced. For where he fits, see scrat ice age, and for the order in which his gags land, see the ice age timeline movie.
Where Does Ice Age: Boiling Point Fit?
Ice Age: Boiling Point is the next Ice Age film, set for a US theatrical release on February 5, 2027, and its status is in production. Disney announced the title and the new date at Destination D23 on August 30, 2025, according to TheWrap. The film was first set for December 2026 when it was announced at D23 Brazil in November 2024, and Wikipedia reports that the move followed Avengers: Doomsday taking the earlier date, a reason that trade coverage has not confirmed.
John C. Donkin is the announced director, and Batu Sener, who scored Buck Wild, was announced as composer on September 29, 2026. A teaser trailer arrived on June 4, 2026. No UK or Australian release dates have been published. Details, cast and rumors are tracked on the ice age boiling point page, and the teaser is on the ice age boiling point trailer page.
Why Did Ice Age 5 Flop at the Box Office?
Ice Age: Collision Course earned about $402 million worldwide on a $105 million budget, according to The Numbers, well under half of Continental Drift's total, and no trade source names a single cause. Ice Age: Continental Drift took $877 million worldwide on a $95 million budget, according to Box Office Mojo. The domestic gap is sharper still, with roughly $64 million for Collision Course against about $161 million for the 2012 film.
Those figures show the drop but they do not explain it. Box Office Mojo's numbers for Collision Course also differ from The Numbers because they include a 2020 re-release. Whether it counts as a flop is a matter of definition: Collision Course grossed more worldwide than Ice Age (2002), which took about $383 million according to Box Office Mojo, but its domestic total of roughly $64 million was the lowest of the five theatrical films, against about $176 million for the 2002 film. Full figures for every film are on the ice age box office page, and the film itself is at ice age collision course.
Ice Age Spin Offs Explained: Where to Start
In my opinion, start with Ice Age (2002) and treat Buck Wild as an optional extra, watched after Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (2009) so that Buck and the dinosaur setting already mean something. It could be argued that the film is really a smaller sequel to that dinosaur chapter: the stakes are a watering hole rather than the end of the world, and the leads are Crash and Eddie rather than Manny, Sid and Diego.
That suits some households better than others. At 82 minutes and rated PG in the US, it is a comfortable choice for a younger child who has seen one or two of the main films, and a lighter ask than Ice Age: Collision Course, where the asteroid plot is bigger and the cast is crowded. Adults who grew up on the 2002 film may find the new voices for Manny, Sid and Diego a jolt, since only Simon Pegg carries over, and that is the main reason I would not start a newcomer here.
So, if you are new to the series, begin with ice age 2002 and follow the ice age movies in order list, then save Buck Wild for a short evening on Disney+. If you want to see where each film places, ice age movies ranked has the verdicts.
