The ending of Superman (2025) resolves the Boravia conflict, clears Superman's name and sets up Kara Zor-El for later stories.
What actually happens? Superman beats his clone, Mr. Terrific closes the rift over Metropolis, and Krypto helps subdue Luthor, who admits he staged the Boravia conflict. Lois and Jimmy Olsen expose Luthor's schemes, and Luthor and his associates are arrested. Lois then tells Clark she loves him too.
What does it mean? The clone reveal turns the film's question about whether Superman is a danger into a fight against a version of himself who never had a choice. That fits the scene at the Kent farm, where Jonathan Kent tells him that his own choices define who he is. The whole film works as a long answer to the damaged Kryptonian message, and Superman wins by refusing the destiny Jor-El and Lara tried to hand him.
How do the scenes connect? The film plants the message early. In the first act the Fortress robots can only play the first half, and the full recording is what Luthor steals after the giant creature draws attention to Metropolis. When Luthor broadcasts it, Jor-El and Lara urge their son to rule Earth and repopulate Krypton, and that is the moment public opinion turns on him. The finale reverses that sequence in three beats: Eve Teschmacher gives up the evidence that Luthor backed Boravia in return for land, Krypto knocks the clone into the black hole beneath the rift, and Lois and Jimmy publish the truth. In my reading as a fan of the comics, the strongest choice is that the hero is saved by people and a dog rather than by a bigger punch. That is opinion, but it follows from who does the work: Mr. Terrific closes the rift, Metamorpho helps him escape the pocket universe, and Krypto subdues Luthor.
What about the last scene? Back at the Fortress, his cousin Kara Zor-El arrives drunk to collect Krypto, and the robots comfort Superman with footage of his childhood on Earth with his human parents. The comfort comes from the robots and not from a speech, which keeps the scene small after such a large fight. It also leaves Kara and the wider hero team open for the DC Universe's later stories, followed by Supergirl, with Man of Tomorrow announced for July 9, 2027.
What did the production do to build it? The Motion Picture Association reported that shooting began in Svalbard, Norway, from February 29, 2024, with the Adventdalen valley used for the Fortress of Solitude scenes. That matters for the ending, because the film closes in the Fortress, the same Arctic setting where the first act ends with the damaged message. Downtown Cleveland was used for Metropolis, so the city that the rift splits is a real street grid and not only a studio set, while the main base was Trilith Studios in Atlanta. Variety Australia reported that James Gunn described the first photo of David Corenswet in costume as entirely in camera, and Gunn is credited as both director and writer, so the ending reflects one person's plan from script to set.
How does it compare with the rest of the series? Superman (2025) is the seventh main film by release order, after Man of Steel (2013), and it shares its title with Superman (1978), directed by Richard Donner and starring Christopher Reeve. That first film opened the series, while Superman (2025) ends by pointing outward: Kara arrives at the Fortress, and the next release in order is Supergirl. In opinion terms, that outward look is the biggest difference in the endings, because it closes one story while keeping the door open for a team.
