Peaches Ice Age: Who She Is, Who Voices Her and What Happens

Peaches is a young mammoth, the daughter of Manny and Ellie, and she is voiced by Keke Palmer in both of her speaking appearances. She is credited in the films simply as "Peaches (voice)", with no alternate name. Palmer is billed tenth in Ice Age: Continental Drift (2012), directed by Michael Thurmeier and Steve Martino, and ninth in Ice Age: Collision Course (2016), directed by Michael Thurmeier.

Peaches then realizes her new friends are shallow and makes up with Louis, who had been loyal to her all along.

In Ice Age: Collision Course she gets engaged to Julian, just as the herd faces asteroids sent toward Earth by Scrat's latest acorn chase. Manny, Sid and Diego are dealing with family changes while meteors fall, and her engagement sits at the center of them. It could be argued that this is why her arc works: each film moves her one stage further along, from baby to teenager to bride.

Peaches is closest to her parents Manny and Ellie, and her boyfriend turned fiance is Julian. Manny is the overprotective father who fusses over every danger even before she is born, and Continental Drift turns that into a real argument about friends and independence. Ellie is the steadier voice, and she is the one who heads with Peaches for the land bridge when the herd is split.

Louis is voiced by Josh Gad and is billed eleventh in Continental Drift. In my opinion, Peaches' best moment is her reconciliation with Louis in Continental Drift, because it is the one scene where she chooses kindness over status. The shallow group she wanted to impress is dropped, and the story rewards the friend who was there all along. For a parent choosing a film for a teenager, it is a more useful lesson than anything in the pirate plot.

My second pick is her birth at the end of Dawn of the Dinosaurs. It could be argued that the film is really about Sid wanting a family, but Peaches' arrival is what answers that theme for the herd as a whole. Manny, who lost his first family long before the saga began, gets a second one, and the film delivers it at the end of a dinosaur fight.

Third is her wedding in Collision Course. It is a warm finale, and it pays off Manny's struggle to let her grow up from Continental Drift. Paradoxically, a film about an asteroid heading for Earth is at its happiest when it is just a family at a ceremony.
