Sonic 4 Trailer: Every Sonic Movie Trailer and What Is Out Now

The only Sonic 4 trailer footage released so far is a 30 second teaser, which Paramount Pictures put out on March 19, 2026, the same day it revealed the title and the cast. It shows Jim Carrey as Dr. Ivo Robotnik, and AOL, republishing Digital Spy, reported on it on March 22, 2026. Think of it like the short clip a network airs before a new season: enough to prove the show is real, not enough to tell you the plot.

A teaser is out, but a full trailer has not been reported. Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is in post production, and filming began on March 2, 2026. The film opens in US theaters on March 19, 2027, and no source gives a date for the full trailer. That being said, the earlier films suggest a pattern: the first trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 arrived on August 28, 2024, a little under four months before its December 20, 2024 release, according to Variety. If Sonic the Hedgehog 4 follows a similar rhythm, a main trailer in late 2026 or early 2027 would be a reasonable guess, but that is a guess and not an announcement.

The teaser arrived with a cast list that Paramount confirmed. Ben Schwartz returns as Sonic the Hedgehog, Jim Carrey as Dr. Ivo Robotnik and Idris Elba as Knuckles the Echidna. Keanu Reeves, Colleen O'Shaughnessey, Lee Majdoub, James Marsden and Tika Sumpter are also on the confirmed list, alongside Ben Kingsley, Matt Berry, Nick Offerman and Richard Ayoade. Kristen Bell was reported in February 2026 as the voice of Amy Rose, and Schwartz confirmed it on Instagram, though TheWrap labeled that a report rather than a studio announcement. Jeff Fowler is reported as director again, with Pat Casey and Josh Miller as writers. For the full list, see the Sonic cast page.

The teaser puts Dr. Robotnik front and center, so Carrey's character is the only antagonist the footage points to. Digital Spy reported that Carrey is also playing Robotnik's grandfather Gerald, which is a rumor and not a studio confirmation. It could be argued that the Sonic 4 teaser is the quietest opening of the three sequels, because it sells a returning face and not a new one. The first trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (2024), directed by Jeff Fowler, introduced Shadow with Keanu Reeves attached, and that hook did a lot of work for a film that went on to earn $492 million worldwide on a $122 million budget, according to Box Office Mojo and The Numbers. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2022) leaned on a similar headline newcomer: TheWrap reported Idris Elba's casting as Knuckles in August 2021, months before the April 8, 2022 release.

By contrast, the 30 second Sonic 4 clip gives us Carrey as Robotnik and nothing more. In my opinion, that makes the first full trailer the one to watch, since it will have to show whether Amy Rose, reported as Kristen Bell's role, is part of the pitch. That is a hope and not a report.

The studio's official YouTube channel is the place to look for the trailers of the three earlier films. Those are Sonic the Hedgehog (2020), released February 14, 2020 and directed by Jeff Fowler, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (the Sonic 2 movie), released April 8, 2022, and Sonic the Hedgehog 3, released December 20, 2024. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 introduced Keanu Reeves as the voice of Shadow in its first trailer.
