What Is the Lowest Grossing Spider-Man Movie?

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) is the lowest grossing Spider-Man movie, with $394.9 million worldwide on a $90 million budget, the smallest in the series. Among live action films, the lowest worldwide total belongs to The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014), directed by Marc Webb, at $709.7 million, and its $203.5 million domestic gross is the lowest of any live action entry. Its predecessor, The Amazing Spider-Man (2012), made $758.7 million. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023) finished at $690.8 million worldwide, below every live action film in the series and well above Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Which Spider-Man Era Earned the Most at the Box Office?

The Marvel Cinematic Universe era earned the most, about $6.46 billion from Tom Holland's four films, which is more than half of the series total. They are Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) at $881.0 million on a $175 million budget, Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) at $1.13 billion on $160 million, Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) at $1.92 billion and Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026) at $2.52 billion.

Tobey Maguire's three films directed by Sam Raimi earned about $2.49 billion: Spider-Man (2002) at $810.9 million, Spider-Man 2 (2004) at $788.3 million and Spider-Man 3 (2007) at $887.4 million. The first of them opened to $114.8 million domestic, according to Box Office Mojo, and Spider-Man 3 (2007) carried the largest budget in the series at $258 million.

Andrew Garfield's two films directed by Marc Webb earned about $1.47 billion, and the Spider-Verse films, with Shameik Moore voicing Miles Morales, earned about $1.09 billion. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023) was directed by Kemp Powers, Justin K. Thompson and Joaquim Dos Santos and carried a $150 million budget. Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) features Maguire and Garfield, but its gross is counted with the Holland era.

What Is the Spider-Man Box Office Prediction for the Next Film?

No box office prediction for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse has been published yet, and the film is scheduled for release in the US on June 18, 2027. Sony moved the film a week earlier from June 25, 2027, to Father's Day weekend on September 25, 2025. Any forecast of its opening is speculation until trade projections appear. The latest on spider-man beyond the spider-verse sits on its own status page, and the full lineup is in the spider man movies in order guide.

Is Spider-Man a Box Office Success? The Case for Yes

Yes, Spider-Man is a box office success: all 11 films earned at least three times their budgets worldwide. That is a rough yardstick (a worldwide gross is not profit, since theaters keep a share of ticket sales and marketing costs sit on top of the production budget), but it is the one the public numbers allow.

The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) returned the least against its cost, at about 3.3 times its $230 million budget, with Spider-Man 3 (2007) and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014) close behind. The best return belongs to Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026) at about 11 times its $225 million budget, followed by Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) at nearly 10 times its $200 million. The gap between those ends of the table is wide, and it is the clearest sign of how the series has moved.

No Spider-Man film was a flop, though The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014) came closest to a disappointment. It could be argued that the case rests on two numbers: its $709.7 million worldwide fell short of the first Webb film's $758.7 million, and its $203.5 million at home was the lowest domestic total of any live action Spider-Man. That being said, I would not call a $709.7 million film on a $200 million budget a flop, and the numbers do not support that word for any entry.

The shape I find most interesting is the Holland run. Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) landed at $881.0 million, close to the Raimi films, and then every film moved the ceiling: Far From Home passed $1 billion, No Way Home reached $1.92 billion and Brand New Day reached $2.52 billion. Part of that is the multiverse pull of No Way Home, which, in my opinion, handed Brand New Day a bigger audience to inherit than any earlier Spider-Man film had.

The animated films tell a smaller but healthy story. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023) doubled the domestic gross of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018), at $381.6 million against $190.2 million, and grew its worldwide total by about 75 percent. So, for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, perhaps the realistic ambition is to beat Across, whose $690.8 million is the best animated result so far, rather than to chase the Holland totals. That is a prediction and not a fact.

One caution applies to every comparison here: these are raw dollars with no adjustment for ticket price rises, which flatters the newer films against Spider-Man (2002). Budget multiples are the fairer yardstick across eras.
