Who Is Dante Reyes in Fast and Furious?
Dante Reyes is the main villain of Fast X (2023), played by Jason Momoa, and the son of the drug lord whom Dominic Toretto's family took down years earlier. Louis Leterrier directed the film, and Momoa is billed ninth in the cast.
Dante wants revenge on Dominic Toretto for his father's death and the loss of the family fortune, and he is willing to take Dom's whole crew apart to get it. In Fast X the first move is a fake Agency job in Rome, which puts Roman Pearce, Tej Parker, Han Lue and Ramsey in danger while Dom is still at home with Letty Ortiz and their young son, Little B.
Fans searching for "Hernan Reyes" are usually asking about the crime boss in Fast Five (2011), played by Joaquim de Almeida and credited simply as Reyes. Fast X describes Dante only as the son of the drug lord Dom's family took down years ago. The film never states that Dante is Hernan Reyes's son, so that link is a fan inference and not a confirmed fact.

Why Is Dante After Dom? His Story ArcSpoilers
Dante is after Dominic Toretto because he blames him for the death of his father and the loss of the family fortune, and his arc runs from a revenge plan to a cliffhanger at the end of Fast X.
In Rome, Dante springs his trap. The truck the crew is sent to steal carries a neutron mine that Dante sets off by remote, and Dom shoves it into the Tiber to limit the blast. Cipher then turns up at Dom's home wounded and warns him that Dante has turned her people against her. Aimes, played by Alan Ritchson, runs the Agency in practice, blames Dom's team and orders a manhunt.
The pressure builds in Rio, where Dom races Dante. Dante kills Diogo with a car bomb after Dom chooses to save Isabel (played by Daniela Melchior). Dante later intercepts Dom and Aimes on a bridge and steals the God's Eye surveillance program. He kidnaps Little B in Portugal, reveals that Aimes is his partner, and shoots down the plane carrying Roman Pearce, Tej Parker, Ramsey and Han Lue.
The structure is worth comparing with earlier revenge plots in the series. In Furious 7, Deckard Shaw also hunts the crew for a family loss, but he strikes in a line: Hobbs at a government office, Han in Tokyo, then a letter bomb at the Toretto home. Dante instead splits the crew across Rome, Los Angeles, Rio, Portugal and Antarctica, so Dom never has all his allies in one place. That fits what the film sets up: the Rome job looks like a heist and turns out to be a trap.
Who Is Dante Reyes Connected To?
Dante Reyes is tied to Dominic Toretto by revenge, to Aimes by a secret partnership, and to Cipher and Jakob Toretto as people his plan harms. His father is the root of everything, since Dante wants revenge for his father's death, but Fast X does not name him.
The obvious candidate is Hernan Reyes, the crime boss of Fast Five (2011). In that film Dom's crew steals about $100 million of Reyes's money from a vault in a police station, and Luke Hobbs kills Reyes. That history would explain the grudge against Dom and Hobbs, but no film states that Dante is his son, so it stays unconfirmed.
Dom is the obvious target, yet Dante goes after the people around him: Little B, Roman Pearce, Tej Parker, Ramsey, Han Lue and Mia Toretto. Jakob Toretto saves Mia and Little B in Los Angeles and takes the boy to Portugal, and he sacrifices himself there to stop the mercenaries chasing them.
Cipher is a victim of Dante's plan, because he turns her own people against her and she ends up held in a secret facility in Antarctica. Aimes, played by Alan Ritchson, is revealed as Dante's partner after he first appears to join forces with Dom. Dante also names Luke Hobbs as his next target in a scene during the credits.
What Happened to Dante Reyes in Fast X?Spoilers
At the end of Fast X, Dante Reyes is alive and his fate is unresolved. Dom drives off a dam with Little B while Dante sets off the explosives he planted there, and the film does not show the outcome.
A scene during the credits adds one more loose end. Luke Hobbs leads agents into an abandoned theater, Dante phones him and names him as his next target, and Hobbs answers that he is easy to find before crushing the phone in his hand. Meanwhile, in Antarctica, Gisele Yashar, thought dead, rescues Letty Ortiz and Cipher, so the story clearly continues.
Universal has dated Fast Forever (also searched as Fast 11) for March 17, 2028, according to Variety and TheWrap, and Vin Diesel told Variety on August 18, 2026 that shooting starts in December. No cast has been confirmed for it, so Dante's return is not confirmed. Rumor, unconfirmed: The Insneider, relayed by Film Stories on October 8, 2026, reports no finished script, no director and a possible start of filming in early 2028. Read the date as studio set but fragile, and see Fast Forever for the latest.
Best Dante Reyes Moments: Where the Trap Closes
Dante Reyes's best moment in Fast X is the Rio choice, when Dom must save either Isabel or Diogo and Dante kills Diogo with a car bomb. Every part of the scene forces one outcome, and Dom has no clean way out. This is opinion, but it rests on how the scene is built: the race gives Dante the street, the bomb gives him the timing, and Dom's decision does the rest.
The Rome neutron mine comes a close second. Dante sets it off by remote, Dom shoves it into the Tiber to limit the blast, and the whole job is revealed as bait because the Agency never sent a mission. Compare it with Fast Five, where Dom runs the heist: he gathers the crew, studies the vault, and the crew swaps its contents with a trash truck so the vault is empty when Hobbs opens it. In Fast X the same crew is on the other side of that logic, with the target as the vault and Roman, Tej, Han and Ramsey as the cargo. The film turns the series' favorite plan against the people who usually make it.
The scale matters for how this plays. TheWrap reported a production budget of $340 million for Fast X before marketing, against $125 million for Fast Five, and the money is visible in the Rome sequence, which the film sets among real city landmarks. Fast X's Rome premiere was held outside the Colosseum, according to Outlook India. Fast X grossed $705 million worldwide, while Fast Five earned $644 million.
The call to Hobbs during the credits is the neatest finish. It is short, it names the next target, and it hands the sequel a clear job. It also echoes the end of Furious 7, where Deckard's threat is answered in person, whereas Dante makes his threat by phone from out of sight.
