Who Is Marcus Abbott in A Quiet Place?
Marcus Abbott is one of the children of the Abbott family, who survive on an isolated New York farm after sightless creatures with extremely sharp hearing take over the world. He is played by Noah Jupe in both main films, billed fourth each time, behind Emily Blunt (Evelyn Abbott), John Krasinski (Lee Abbott) and Millicent Simmonds (Regan Abbott).
The family stays alive by keeping silent and talking in American Sign Language. Marcus lives inside that rule from the opening act of A Quiet Place (2018), directed by John Krasinski, where his youngest sibling Beau is killed after switching on a noisy toy. The loss shapes everyone in the house, and Marcus carries it into the sequel, A Quiet Place Part II, also directed by Krasinski.
If you are looking for him in the prequel, he is not there. A Quiet Place Day One follows Sam, Eric and a new group of survivors in Manhattan, and Marcus is not in its credited cast. For the wider ensemble, see the A Quiet Place cast and the full list of A Quiet Place characters.

Marcus Abbott's Story Arc Across Both FilmsSpoilers
Marcus's arc runs from a child sheltered by his parents in the first film to the person guarding the youngest member of the family in the second. In A Quiet Place (2018), he and Regan become trapped in a silo while a creature closes in. Regan's cochlear implant gives off a high pitched whine that drives a creature away, and that discovery becomes the family's first real weapon.
Lee is then fatally wounded while drawing another creature away so his children can escape. Regan realizes the creatures react badly to the high pitched noise, amplifies it through a microphone and exposes a weak spot, and Evelyn kills the creature with a shotgun.
A Quiet Place Part II opens on the first day of the invasion, at a small town baseball game, before jumping ahead to the family after the loss of Lee and Beau. Evelyn, Regan, Marcus and a newborn baby leave their wrecked farm to look for other survivors. Marcus is hurt in a trap, and the group shelters in an old steel foundry where they meet Emmett, a neighbor who lost his own family.
When Evelyn goes out for medical supplies, Marcus is left to guard the baby and accidentally attracts a creature. He hides himself and the baby in an airtight compartment, and later uses a portable radio to weaken the creature that has found them before shooting it. Meanwhile Regan and Emmett head for an island colony and a radio station, which is where the signal is broadcast.
Marcus Abbott's Family and Allies
Marcus is tied most closely to the rest of the Abbott family: his mother Evelyn, his father Lee, his sister Regan and his brother Beau. Evelyn is expecting a baby when A Quiet Place (2018) begins, and that child later becomes the one Marcus protects in Part II.
Lee is the father who gives his life so Marcus and Regan can escape, and his death falls between the two films. You can read more on Lee Abbott and Evelyn Abbott, and the sibling pairing is covered under Regan Abbott. Beau is the brother whose death opens the story, and his loss explains much of the family's caution afterward.
Outside the family, Marcus's main ally is Emmett, played by Cillian Murphy. Emmett is the foundry neighbor who wants nothing to do with their problems at first, yet rescues Regan after she sets out alone and agrees to go with her. Marcus stays at the foundry with the baby while they travel. See Emmett for his own arc.
Does Marcus Die in A Quiet Place?Spoilers
No, Marcus does not die in A Quiet Place (2018) or in A Quiet Place Part II. He is alive at the end of the first film, and at the end of the sequel Evelyn, Regan, Marcus and the baby are reunited and ready to fight back.
The Part II finale shows that the creatures can be beaten by broadcasting the high pitched sound. Regan leaves her implant attached to the radio station microphone so the signal keeps playing for other survivors, and at the foundry Marcus uses a portable radio to weaken the creature that found him before shooting it. The closing scenes set up a wider effort against the invasion rather than a goodbye for any of the surviving family.
As for what comes next, A Quiet Place Part III is in production, with John Krasinski writing, directing and producing. TheWrap reported in March 2026 that the cast includes Emily Blunt, Cillian Murphy, Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe. TheWrap quotes Krasinski giving a US date of July 30, 2027, after Variety Australia reported July 9, 2027 in August 2025. Details are on the A Quiet Place Part III page.
Marcus Abbott's Best Moments, Ranked by Fear
In my opinion, Marcus's best scene is the airtight compartment in A Quiet Place Part II, where he hides with a baby while a creature prowls close by. It could be argued that a newborn is the worst possible roommate in a film about silence, and the scene plays that dark joke completely straight, so the dread keeps building.
The silo from the first film is a close second, because it takes a place that should feel like safe storage and turns it into a trap with Regan beside him. Perhaps the neatest detail is that her implant, the device Lee works to improve, is what scares the creature off.
The portable radio moment at the foundry completes his arc. Marcus spends most of both films being protected, and then he is the one who uses the family's discovery to bring a creature down. As such, I would pick it over his earlier scenes as the point where he earns his place in the fight. If you are new to the series, start with the A Quiet Place movies in order and see these scenes in sequence.
