Who Is Regan Abbott in A Quiet Place?
Regan Abbott is the deaf daughter of Lee and Evelyn Abbott, played by Millicent Simmonds in both A Quiet Place (2018), directed by John Krasinski, and A Quiet Place Part II (2021). She is billed third in each film, behind Emily Blunt as Evelyn and Krasinski himself as Lee, which shows how much of the story rests on her.
The Abbotts live on an isolated farm in New York in a world overrun by blind creatures that hunt anything that makes noise. The family talks in American Sign Language and moves carefully to stay unheard, so Regan is the one member of the household for whom silence was already an everyday condition. That is the neat trick of the casting and the writing: the apocalypse has made everyone else learn her language.
Regan wears a cochlear implant, and her father spends the early part of the first film trying to improve her hearing device. That small domestic project turns out to matter far more than anyone in the family expects. She carries real weight in a household that has already lost its youngest child, Beau, and her scenes with her brother Marcus (Noah Jupe) show what a family looks like when the rules of survival are also the rules of grief.
She does not appear in the spin-off prequel A Quiet Place: Day One, which follows Sam in Manhattan and has a separate cast. Millicent Simmonds is listed in the cast of A Quiet Place Part III, covered at a quiet place part iii.

Regan Abbott's Story Arc Across Both FilmsSpoilers
Regan's arc runs from a daughter whose father is trying to improve her hearing device to the person who finds the creatures' weakness and then takes the fight to them. The first film sets that up, and Part II turns it into a road story.
In A Quiet Place (2018), Beau is killed after a noisy toy goes off, and the family is left broken. Regan and Marcus later become trapped in a silo while a creature closes in, and Regan's implant gives off a high pitched whine that drives it away. When Lee is fatally wounded drawing another creature away so his children can escape, Regan realizes the creatures react badly to that same noise. She amplifies it through a microphone, which exposes a weak spot, and Evelyn kills the creature with a shotgun. The film ends on Evelyn chambering another shell as more creatures approach.
A Quiet Place Part II opens on the first day of the invasion, at a small town baseball game, then jumps ahead to the family leaving their ruined farm. Regan carries the one weapon they have: feedback from her implant hurts the creatures. After Marcus is injured in a trap, the group shelters in a steel foundry occupied by Emmett (Cillian Murphy), a neighbor who lost his family. A song repeating on the radio convinces Regan there are survivors on an island, and she believes broadcasting the high pitched sound from a radio station could turn the tide.
She sets off alone and is attacked, and Emmett rescues her and agrees to come along. At a marina they are ambushed by looters, and the chase shows that the creatures cannot swim. On the island, the colony explains that an earlier evacuation failed because noise drew the creatures to the boats. Regan reaches the radio station, broadcasts the signal, which disables the creature, and finishes it with a metal rod.
Regan's Family and Allies
Regan's most important relationships are with her father Lee, her mother Evelyn, her brother Marcus and, in Part II, Emmett.
Lee Abbott (John Krasinski) is the parent who tries to improve her hearing device, and their bond is the emotional spine of the first film. His full story is at lee abbott a quiet place.
Evelyn Abbott (Emily Blunt) carries the household after Lee is gone and leads the group out of the farm in Part II. Her profile is at evelyn abbott a quiet place.
Marcus Abbott (Noah Jupe) is Regan's brother, trapped with her in the silo in the first film and left guarding the baby in Part II while his sister is away. See marcus abbott a quiet place.
Beau Abbott (Cade Woodward) is the youngest child, killed early in A Quiet Place (2018), and his death shapes the family's grief for the rest of the story.
Emmett (Cillian Murphy) starts as a reluctant host in the foundry and becomes Regan's traveling partner on the way to the island and the radio station. His arc is covered at emmett a quiet place.
The newborn baby is the other family member Regan is protecting by the end of Part II.
Does Regan Abbott Die? Her Fate So FarSpoilers
Regan survives both films. At the end of A Quiet Place (2018) she is alive alongside Marcus and Evelyn, and at the end of A Quiet Place Part II she is reunited with Evelyn, Marcus and the baby after broadcasting the signal from the radio station.
Her last significant act in Part II is leaving her implant attached to the station microphone so the signal keeps playing for anyone listening. The finale shows the creatures can be beaten by broadcasting the high pitched sound, and it sets up a wider effort to take on the invasion.
The next chapter is A Quiet Place Part III, which Krasinski is writing, directing and producing. Millicent Simmonds is listed in its cast, alongside Emily Blunt, Cillian Murphy, Noah Jupe, Jack O'Connell, Jason Clarke and Katy O'Brian. The film is in production with a US release date of July 30, 2027, according to TheWrap. Any detail about Regan's part in it would be speculation.
Regan Abbott's Best Moments
In my opinion, Regan has the franchise's best single idea, which is that the weakness of the creatures comes from her cochlear implant, the very device her father was working to improve. Here are the moments I would point a newcomer to.
The silo. Regan and Marcus are trapped while a creature closes in, and her implant squeals at the worst possible time, yet it is exactly what drives the creature off. It is a classic reversal, and it works because the film has spent an hour teaching us that every sound is a death sentence.
The microphone. After Lee's sacrifice, Regan puts the pieces together and amplifies the feedback. It could be argued that this is the franchise's cleanest payoff, because the shotgun only works once she has done the thinking.
The solo trip to the radio station. In Part II she heads out alone on the strength of a song repeating on the radio. Perhaps the bravest thing about the sequence is that Regan acts on her own belief that a broadcast could turn the tide, and the film lets her be right.
The implant left on the microphone. Leaving the device behind so the broadcast keeps running is a quiet sacrifice, and a fair counterpoint to Sam in Day One, who uses car alarms as a distraction so Eric and Frodo can reach the boat. In both cases, the characters turn noise from a threat into a tool, and Regan did it first.
