Who Is Miles Morales Spider-Man?

Miles Morales is a Brooklyn teenager who gains spider powers and becomes the Spider-Man of his own universe, voiced by Shameik Moore in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. He debuts in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018), directed by Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey and Rodney Rothman, and returns in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023), directed by Kemp Powers, Justin K. Thompson and Joaquim Dos Santos. Both films were animated at Sony Pictures Imageworks in Vancouver, and the first was made mostly on twos with 3D line work to build its stereo effect, according to Cartoon Brew.

At the start of the first film Miles has just begun at a new boarding school and feels out of place, although he stays close to his uncle Aaron, voiced by Mahershala Ali. His mother is Rio Morales, voiced by Luna Lauren Vélez. His father, Jefferson Davis (credited as Jeff Morales in the second film), is voiced by Brian Tyree Henry.

How Did Miles Morales Get His Powers?

Miles Morales got his powers from the bite of a radioactive spider in an abandoned subway tunnel, where he was painting graffiti with his uncle Aaron. Afterward he struggles to control his sticky hands and growing strength. Back in the tunnel he sees the Spider-Man of his universe fighting Kingpin, whose huge collider is tearing open the walls between universes, and he is handed a flash drive with a warning that the machine must be shut down.

Where Does Miles Morales Live?

Miles Morales lives in Brooklyn, New York, with his parents, and in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse his home world is Earth-1610. The second film opens with him balancing being Spider-Man against life at home with his parents, which is a different kind of strain from the school worries of the first film.

What Is the Miles Morales Spider-Man Name and Suit?

Miles Morales wears a Spider-Man suit he makes himself in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and the credits list him as Miles Morales (voice). The credits of the second film list Miles Morales (voice) and also Miles G. Morales (voice), the latter credited to Jharrel Jerome. In the story Miles is the Spider-Man of his city, and he takes his leap of faith in the suit he made, which is the turning point of his origin story.

Is Donald Glover Connected to Miles Morales?

Donald Glover is credited as Aaron Davis in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), a live action film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe era. He is not in the cast of either Miles Morales film. In the Spider-Verse films, Uncle Aaron is voiced by Mahershala Ali.

Where Does Miles Morales Fit in the Wider Franchise?

Miles Morales belongs to the Spider-Verse line of films, which sits apart from the live action Raimi, Webb and Marvel Cinematic Universe eras. The live action films revolve around Oscorp: in Spider-Man (2002) it is the weapons company run by Norman Osborn, and in The Amazing Spider-Man it is where a genetically altered spider bites Peter Parker. Miles's own origin is different, a radioactive spider bite in a subway tunnel. Miles Morales Spider-Man Movies: His Story Arc Across Two FilmsSpoilers

Across Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Miles Morales starts as an uncertain teenager and ends the second film as a hero who refuses to accept a fixed fate. In the first film he watches Kingpin (credited as Wilson Fisk) kill his universe's Spider-Man, whose last act is to hand him the flash drive that can shut down the collider. At the funeral Miles meets an older, worn out Peter B. Parker, pulled in from another dimension, and Peter B. Parker reluctantly agrees to train him in exchange for help getting home. Gwen Stacy (Spider-Gwen), Spider-Man Noir, Peni Parker and Spider-Ham join them.

Miles then discovers that his uncle Aaron is secretly the Prowler and works for Kingpin. Aaron is killed, and Miles loses his confidence and pulls away from the group. Peter B. Parker encourages him, and his father Jefferson Davis comes to support him too. He makes his own suit, takes his leap of faith and joins the break in to Kingpin's lab, where Peter B. Parker stays behind to hold off the enemy. Miles beats Kingpin's forces, sends the other Spider-people home and destroys the collider, with Kingpin caught in the blast. A post credit scene introduces Miguel O'Hara, a Spider-Man from a 2099 future.

The second film picks up with Gwen isolated on Earth-65 and Miles balancing hero duty with life at home on Earth-1610. Together they pursue Spot, a scientist turned villain who can move between universes, and the chase leads them to the Spider-Society led by Miguel. Miguel insists that certain canon events must happen to keep realities stable, and he sees Miles's refusal to let his father die as a danger to the whole multiverse. Miles is imprisoned by the group but escapes. He then learns he is on Earth-42, where no one was bitten by the spider that gave him his powers, so that world has no Spider-Man. The film stops on a cliffhanger.

Allies, Family and Enemies: Who Matters to Miles

Miles's closest relationships are with his parents Rio Morales and Jefferson Davis, his uncle Aaron, Peter B. Parker and Gwen Stacy. His mother Rio Morales, voiced by Luna Lauren Vélez, is part of the home life Miles balances against being Spider-Man. His father Jefferson Davis, voiced by Brian Tyree Henry, supports him after Aaron's death, and in the second film Miguel O'Hara sees Miles's refusal to let that father die as a danger to the multiverse.

Uncle Aaron, voiced by Mahershala Ali, is the most tragic link. He is the uncle Miles trusts, the one who takes him to paint in the tunnel, and he turns out to be the Prowler working for Kingpin. Aaron is killed in the first film, and Miles loses his confidence and pulls away from the group.

Peter B. Parker, voiced by Jake Johnson, is the mentor who agrees to train Miles in exchange for help getting home. Gwen Stacy, voiced by Hailee Steinfeld, is the peer who understands the double life, and she finds a way to stay in touch with Miles from her own dimension at the end of the first film. See gwen stacy spider man and spider-gwen for her side of the story, and peter parker spider man for the other Peters.

On the opposing side, Kingpin, voiced by Liev Schreiber, is the villain of the first film, and Spot, voiced by Jason Schwartzman, drives the second. Miguel O'Hara, voiced by Oscar Isaac, leads the Spider-Society and argues that Miles must follow canon events. See miguel o'hara spider man and spider man villains.

What Happens to Miles Morales at the End of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse?Spoilers

Miles Morales is alive at the end of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, but his story is unresolved. He is preparing to break out of Earth-42. Separately, Gwen and a team of Spider-People ready themselves for Spot's planned attack on Earth-1610's New York. The film ends on a cliffhanger rather than a resolution, and it sets up the third film.

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is the third film and is set for a US release on June 18, 2027. Sony moved the date from June 25, 2027 to June 18, 2027, Father's Day weekend, on September 25, 2025. The status and cast of that film are tracked on spider-man beyond the spider-verse.

Best Moments: Where Miles Morales Earns His Suit

Miles Morales earns his suit in four moments: the subway tunnel after the spider bite, the leap of faith, Peter B. Parker's training, and the argument with Miguel O'Hara. The tunnel scene teaches the whole premise in a few minutes: a kid is handed a power and a flash drive he does not understand, and the Spider-Man he looks up to is killed almost at once.

The leap of faith in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse lands because of what comes before it. Aaron's death sends Miles into hiding, so making his own suit reads as a decision rather than a reflex.

Peter B. Parker's training is the warmest stretch of the first film, because he teaches Miles while barely managing his own life. It also gives weight to his choice to stay behind and hold off the enemy so the others can reach the collider.

The argument with Miguel in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is the best debate in the saga, because Miguel is not exactly wrong that canon events have a cost. The discovery on Earth-42 then turns that argument into a personal puzzle for Miles.
