How Many Conjuring Spin Offs Are There?
There are six Conjuring spin offs, and all six are theatrical films released in US theaters between October 2014 and September 2023. Three follow the Annabelle doll, two follow the demon nun Valak, and one, The Curse of La Llorona, borrows a priest from the doll films and builds its own story around a folk ghost. They sit alongside four main films about Ed and Lorraine Warren: The Conjuring (2013), The Conjuring 2, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It and The Conjuring: Last Rites, which makes ten films in all. The full count lives at how many Conjuring movies are there.
Counts of nine and ten both circulate, and the difference is a date. Nine films had been released before The Conjuring: Last Rites arrived on September 5, 2025, so a list of nine stops one film short. Think of it like a long running soap where a few side characters get their own shows: the main saga stays with the Warrens, while each spin off follows one object or demon on its own timeline. James Wan directed the first two main films, and he is credited as a producer on the first spin off.
The main films are presented as based on cases the Warrens claimed to have investigated, including the Perron farmhouse in Rhode Island and the Hodgson home in Enfield, north London. Nothing in the record establishes that any haunting was real, and the films dramatize the Warrens' claims rather than prove them. The Conjuring true story page covers what the Warrens claimed and what is documented.

| Annabelle Comes Home | June 26, 2019 | Gary Dauberman | $231 million |
| The Nun II | September 8, 2023 | Michael Chaves | $270 million |
Worldwide figures are from Box Office Mojo. Added together, the six spin offs took about $1.55 billion worldwide, and the full breakdown is on the Conjuring box office page.
Annabelle (2014): The Doll Gets Its Own Film
Annabelle (2014), directed by John R. Leonetti, is the first Conjuring spin off and reached US theaters on October 3, 2014. Leonetti had been the cinematographer on The Conjuring (2013), Gary Dauberman wrote the script, and James Wan and Peter Safran were producing, according to TheWrap's casting report. Annabelle Wallis and Ward Horton lead the cast as Mia and John Form.
The setup is a nursery and a gift. In 1967 Santa Monica, medical student John gives his pregnant wife Mia a rare vintage doll to complete her collection. That night their neighbors, the Higginses, are killed by two cultists who then break into the Forms' home. The woman dies in the nursery while clutching the doll, and Mia survives to try to get on with life as a new parent.
The film cost $6.5 million, earned about $258 million worldwide according to Box Office Mojo, and runs 99 minutes, with Joseph Bishara providing the score. Status: released. The doll has its own entry at Annabelle doll, and the film has a full page at Annabelle 2014.
Annabelle: Creation (2017): Where the Doll Came From
Annabelle: Creation (2017), directed by David F. Sandberg, is a prequel about how the doll became a vessel for a demon, and it reached US theaters on August 11, 2017. The film began life as Annabelle 2, was retitled before release according to Daily Dead, and was first dated for May 19, 2017, according to UPI, before moving to August.
A dollmaker, Samuel Mullins, and his wife Esther lose their young daughter Bee in a car accident. Twelve years later they open their farmhouse to Sister Charlotte and six girls from a closed orphanage, and the couple warn the girls to stay out of Bee's locked room. Janice, a girl weakened by polio, goes in anyway and opens a closet that holds a doll, which wakes something evil in the house.
Stephanie Sigman plays Sister Charlotte, Talitha Eliana Bateman plays Janice, Lulu Wilson plays Linda, and Anthony LaPaglia and Miranda Otto play the Mullinses. Benjamin Wallfisch wrote the score. Joseph Bishara, who scored six of the other Conjuring films, is credited on screen as the Annabelle Demon, which is a neat bit of creature design economy. The budget was $15 million and the worldwide gross about $307 million according to Box Office Mojo, over 110 minutes. Status: released, with a page at Annabelle Creation.
The Nun (2018): The Biggest Spin Off
The Nun (2018), directed by Corin Hardy, is the highest grossing Conjuring spin off, with about $366 million worldwide according to Box Office Mojo on a $22 million budget. It reached US theaters on September 7, 2018 and runs 96 minutes. If the Annabelle films are about a single object, this one is about a place and a demon with a clear shape.
In 1952 a nun at a remote Romanian abbey takes her own life after something evil stalks the building. The Vatican sends Father Burke, a priest who deals with troubling miracles, and Sister Irene, a young novice who has not yet taken her vows. A local farmhand nicknamed Frenchie guides them to the abbey, where the villagers are afraid of the place and the remaining nuns behave strangely.
Taissa Farmiga plays Sister Irene, Demián Bichir plays Father Burke and Jonas Bloquet plays Frenchie. Bonnie Aarons plays The Nun / Valak, a role she had already taken on as the Demon Nun in The Conjuring 2. Abel Korzeniowski composed the score. Screen Global Production reported that the film shot in historic Romanian castles, and that a set built at Corvin Castle was left standing afterward. Status: released, with a page at The Nun 2018. For the demon itself, see Valak the Nun and Sister Irene.
The Curse of La Llorona (2019): The Odd One Out
The Curse of La Llorona (2019), directed by Michael Chaves, is the lowest grossing Conjuring spin off, with about $123 million worldwide according to Box Office Mojo on a $9 million budget. It reached US theaters on April 19, 2019 and runs 93 minutes. It had its world premiere at SXSW at the Paramount Theater in Austin, where it was introduced as the latest film in The Conjuring universe, as Syfy Wire reported.
The story is set in 1973 Los Angeles. Widowed child welfare caseworker Anna Tate-Garcia, played by Linda Cardellini, checks on two boys who keep missing school and finds them locked in a closet at their mother Patricia's apartment. She takes them into care, ignoring their warnings, and soon after the boys are found drowned. Patricia insists that a weeping spirit called La Llorona is responsible and blames Anna, and then Anna's own children, Chris and Sam, begin to experience strange and threatening events.
Raymond Cruz plays Rafael Olvera, and Patricia Velásquez plays Patricia Alvarez. Tony Amendola returns as Father Perez, which is the film's link to the doll story. Joseph Bishara scored it. Chaves went on to direct two more Conjuring films, The Devil Made Me Do It and Last Rites, plus The Nun II. Status: released, with a page at The Curse of La Llorona and the spirit at La Llorona.
Annabelle Comes Home (2019): One Night in the Artifact Room
Annabelle Comes Home (2019), directed by Gary Dauberman, moves the doll out of the shops and orphanages of earlier entries and into the Warrens' own house, and it opened in US theaters on June 26, 2019. It was Dauberman's first time in the director's chair, TheWrap reported, after he had written the script for the first Annabelle film. Box Office Mojo lists a $30 million budget (The Numbers gives $27 million), a worldwide gross of about $231 million and a 106 minute runtime.
The premise is a babysitting job that goes wrong. Ed and Lorraine collect the Annabelle doll from two nurses and seal it inside a blessed glass case in the artifacts room at their home. During the drive back, the doll rouses spirits that go after Ed. A year later the Warrens leave for a night away, and their daughter Judy stays with her babysitter, Mary Ellen. Judy has few friends, since classmates keep their distance because of what her parents do, so Mary Ellen organizes an early birthday party to cheer her up.
Mckenna Grace plays Judy, Madison Iseman plays Mary Ellen, Katie Sarife plays Daniela Rios and Michael Cimino plays Bob, with Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson back as Lorraine and Ed. For a film that lives almost entirely in one room, the practical build matters: TheWrap reported that the artifact room was recreated on a soundstage and blessed on November 7, 2018. Joseph Bishara composed the score. Status: released, with a full page at Annabelle Comes Home.
The Nun II (2023): The Latest Spin Off
The Nun II (2023), directed by Michael Chaves, is the most recent Conjuring spin off, released in US theaters on September 8, 2023 and set four years after the events of the first Nun film. It cost $38 million according to The Numbers, took about $270 million worldwide according to Box Office Mojo, and runs 110 minutes. The Numbers reports that it filmed in France.
In 1956 a priest is burned to death in front of his altar boy in Tarascon, France. The Vatican then sends Sister Irene to look into a string of deaths across Europe that seem tied to the demon Valak. She is paired with a younger nun, Sister Debra, and the two travel to Tarascon, where a boarding school worker named Maurice becomes possessed and the headmistress is killed.
Taissa Farmiga returns as Sister Irene, with Storm Reid as Sister Debra, Anna Popplewell as Kate and Jonas Bloquet as Maurice. Bonnie Aarons plays The Demon Nun / Valak once more. Marco Beltrami composed the score, which is a change from the first Nun film. Status: released, with a page at The Nun II.
Upcoming Conjuring Spin Offs: What Is Dated and What Is Not
The only upcoming Conjuring film with a date is The Conjuring: First Communion, set for September 10, 2027 in the US, according to TheWrap's January 16, 2026 report on the Warner Bros. slate. TheWrap's July 29, 2026 cast story repeats that date, and neither report gives a UK or Australian date. Trade and entertainment coverage says filming has started, with Rodrigue Huart directing from a script by Richard Naing and Ian Goldberg, though that production status is reported rather than confirmed by the studio.
TheWrap reported the additions of Charles Parnell, Marta Kessler and Caleb Dolden to the cast, and other coverage lists Garrett Wareing and Amanda Fix as young Ed and Lorraine Warren, with Matthias Schweighöfer also joining. Young versions of the Warrens suggest a story set before the earlier films, but that is an inference from the casting and not a studio statement. The Conjuring First Communion page tracks the date, cast and status, and the Conjuring First Communion trailer page lists trailers once they exist.
Searches also surface The Crooked Man and The Conjuring: Unspoken as titles. Neither has a confirmed date, cast or production status in studio or trade coverage, so neither counts as upcoming here. Treat any release date attached to either title as unconfirmed until Warner Bros. or a trade paper announces one.
Is There a Conjuring Spin Off on Netflix?
Yes, in the UK and Australia four of the six spin offs are listed on Netflix: Annabelle (2014), Annabelle: Creation, The Nun (2018) and Annabelle Comes Home. In the US none of the six is on Netflix, and all six are listed on HBO Max, according to JustWatch data via TMDB checked on November 3, 2026.
The UK and Australian lists differ for the other two. In the UK, The Curse of La Llorona is listed on Amazon Prime Video, Now TV Cinema and HBO Max, while The Nun II is listed for rent or purchase only. In Australia, Stan carries Annabelle: Creation, The Nun (2018), Annabelle Comes Home and The Nun II, and La Llorona is listed on HBO Max and the HBO Max Amazon Channel, with no Netflix or Stan listing. Streaming lists move often, so check where to watch Conjuring before you plan a marathon.
But, what about a Conjuring spin off series? All six spin offs are theatrical features.
How the Spin Offs Connect: The Doll, the Nun and the RulesSpoilers
The spin offs connect through two demons and one room: the Annabelle doll, Valak, and the Warrens' artifact room, where the dangerous objects end up. Everything below gives away how the films end.
The doll thread runs across three films. Annabelle: Creation ends by joining the 1967 prologue of Annabelle (2014), which makes it a direct prequel. Annabelle (2014) ends with the doll locked in a glass case among the Warrens' artifacts, which links it to The Conjuring (2013), and Annabelle Comes Home then spends a whole night in that room. The Valak thread starts in The Conjuring 2, where Lorraine learns the demon's name and orders it back to Hell. The last tag scene of Annabelle: Creation shows Valak in nun form at the Abbey of St. Carta in 1952 (Den of Geek), and The Nun (2018) ends by showing that Frenchie, whose real name is Maurice, is the possessed man Ed describes in lecture footage in The Conjuring (2013). The Nun II closes with archive footage of Ed and Lorraine from The Devil Made Me Do It. The Curse of La Llorona is the loosest link, tied in by Father Perez from Annabelle (2014).
In my opinion, the most interesting idea across the spin offs is that each demon obeys a rule. Valak is stopped by the blood of Christ in The Nun (2018), by its own name in The Conjuring 2, and by the Words of Institution as wine becomes blood in The Nun II, where Irene's descent from St. Lucy also keeps the demon's fire off her. La Llorona is destroyed with a cross made from the tree by the river where the boys died. Annabelle always wants a soul, which is why Evelyn gives hers up in Annabelle (2014). It could be argued that this rules based approach is what lifts the better spin offs above plain jump scare films, because the audience can follow the logic of the haunting.
If you want a single pick, I would start with The Nun (2018) for its scale, and then Annabelle: Creation if the doll appeals. To see them alongside the main films, follow the Conjuring movies in order guide, and for the demons see Conjuring demons.
