Who Is Quinn McKenna in the Predator Movies?
Quinn McKenna is the army sniper who leads The Predator (2018), the sixth film in release order and the eighth in chronological order, and he is played by Boyd Holbrook. The film credits him as Quinn McKenna and gives him no other name. TMDB's setup calls him an army sniper and names no unit, so a tag such as the United States Army Rangers is not part of his on screen record. He is billed first in the cast, ahead of Trevante Rhodes, Sterling K. Brown, Jacob Tremblay, Keegan-Michael Key and Olivia Munn.
The setup is simple and it sets the whole film moving. A Predator ship crashes on Earth, Quinn is there to see it, and he mails pieces of the alien's armor home to prove what he saw. Government agent Will Traeger then has Quinn detained, while Quinn's son Rory receives the package and starts playing with the gear. That one decision, part cautious and part reckless, is the reason the rest of the film happens.
The Predator 2018, directed by Shane Black, runs 107 minutes and opened in the US on September 14, 2018. Black has an unusual history with the series, because he played Rick Hawkins in Predator 1987 before directing this one. Quinn follows a line of leads that includes Dutch Schaefer, Mike Harrigan and Royce.
The casting came late. Variety reported on October 11, 2016 that Holbrook was in talks to replace Benicio del Toro, who had left the project over scheduling. The film then premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival's Midnight Madness program in September 2018, ahead of the US release.

Quinn McKenna's Story Arc in The PredatorSpoilers
Quinn's story arc runs from witness to prisoner to exo-suit pilot, and it all happens inside one film. After he mails the armor and Traeger takes him into custody, the government keeps a Predator in a lab for study. That creature escapes the lab, and the film turns into a chase.
At home, Rory has put on the armor he received, and in doing so he accidentally draws the attention of more Predators. A second, much larger Predator arrives, kills the first one and takes Rory to its ship, which it plans to destroy. The stakes for Quinn change at that point, because the sniper who started out proving a sighting is now trying to get his son back from a hunter that is clearly stronger than the one in the lab.
Nebraska Williams sacrifices himself to bring the ship down, and Nettles dies in the crash. Quinn and Casey Brackett then kill the big Predator. The final scene is a short one: a lab opens cargo from the ship and finds a 'Predator Killer' exo-suit. Quinn agrees to pilot it.
If you want the arc beside the others in the series, it is worth setting it against Naru in Prey, who also ends up using the creature's own gear, though Naru lures her Predator into a bog while Quinn finishes his alongside Casey Brackett.
Who Are Quinn McKenna's Allies and Family?
Quinn's closest relationship is with his son Rory McKenna, played by Jacob Tremblay, and the plot is driven by what Rory does with the armor Quinn sends. Rory plays with the gear, draws more Predators to himself and is carried off by the large Predator to its ship, so every major turn in the film runs through the father and son.
Will Traeger, played by Sterling K. Brown, is the opposing force. He is the government agent who takes Quinn into custody and keeps the captured Predator in a lab for study.
Casey Brackett, played by Olivia Munn, is Quinn's partner at the finish. The two of them kill the large Predator together, which makes her the character who shares the final victory with him.
Nebraska Williams, played by Trevante Rhodes, gives his life to bring the ship down, and Nettles, played by Augusto Aguilera, dies in the crash. The wider cast also credits Keegan-Michael Key as Coyle, Thomas Jane as Baxley and Alfie Allen as Lynch.
Yvonne Strahovski is credited as Emily, the one other name in the cast that sits close to the McKenna household. Searches for Emily McKenna land on this credit, but the film lists her character only as Emily, with no surname, and the credits state no family tie beyond Quinn and Rory.
The other side of the relationship map is the aliens themselves. Quinn deals with two kinds of Yautja in this film, the first Predator that escapes the lab and the larger one that replaces it.
Does Quinn McKenna Die in The Predator?Spoilers
Quinn McKenna does not die in The Predator, and the film ends with him alive and agreeing to wear an exo-suit made to fight Predators. He helps Casey Brackett finish off the large Predator, and when the suit turns up in the cargo from the ship, he agrees to pilot it.
That ending sets up more fights, but no sequel has been announced. ComicBook.com reported in February 2026 that no next Predator film has been dated or officially announced, so the exo-suit scene remains the last story beat the character has had. His status is alive and unresolved.

Best Quinn McKenna Moments
In my opinion, Quinn's best moment is the first one, when he mails the armor home. It is a small, human decision, and it could be argued that the film never tops it, because everything afterwards, from the lab escape to the kidnapped Rory, grows out of that package arriving at the wrong house.
The finish with Casey Brackett is a close second. Dutch beat his creature in the mud, and Harrigan took his kill in a hidden ship under Los Angeles, so seeing the big Predator go down to two people fighting side by side gives this film a different feel from those duels.
The last scene is the third. The exo-suit is a fun idea, though I would argue the film uses it more as a promise than as a payoff. It tells you Quinn is about to fight back, and it leaves you wanting to see him in the suit.
That being said, a character is only as strong as his film. If you want to see a hunter story told sharply, predator 1987 is the place to start, and the predator movies in order guide shows where The Predator fits.
