Naru Prey: Who She Is and What Happens to Her

Naru is the Comanche healer at the center of Prey (2022), directed by Dan Trachtenberg, and she is played by Amber Midthunder, who holds the top billing in the cast. She is credited simply as Naru.

The story opens in 1719 on the Great Plains. Naru works as a healer in her Comanche Nation camp, yet she wants to be a hunter, and the expectations of her tribe hold her back. Her brother Taabe, played by Dakota Beavers, and the other men doubt that she can keep up. When a bright streak crosses the sky, Naru reads it as a sign from the Thunderbird, and the others brush it off. That small disagreement sets up everything that follows, because she is the first person in the camp to take the danger seriously.

How old is Naru in Prey (2022)? The film presents her as a young Comanche healer, and no official age is published, so any number you see online is a fan estimate. What the film does make clear is that she is the least trusted hunter in her camp, which matters in a franchise that usually pits trained soldiers against the Yautja (the predator creature page covers the hunter side).

The production put real weight behind her setting. Filming began in Alberta in June 2021, at locations that include Stoney Nakoda Nation, Moose Mountain and the Elbow River, and the cinematography leaned on natural light and torchlight. Producer Jhane Myers said Prey (2022) received the first full dub of a film into the Comanche language. The Predator she faces was played by Dane DiLiegro, who stands 6 ft 9, and Trachtenberg designed that feral Predator to feel raw rather than polished.

For the wider picture, the Predator timeline places Prey (2022) second in chronological order, and the Predator cast page lists the rest of the actors.

Naru begins as the healer nobody sends on a hunt and ends as a war chief with a Predator's head in her hands. The turning point comes early: a mountain lion injures a hunter, Naru is knocked out in the chaos, and Taabe is the one who kills the cat, so he becomes war chief while she stays on the sidelines. Convinced that something worse is out there, she takes her dog into the woods to find proof.

The proof arrives as tracks and carcasses that fit no animal she knows. She gets through a bog and a bear, then French fur trappers capture her, and they are already holding Taabe. Here the feral Predator shows its hand, cloaking itself and cutting down most of the trappers with advanced weapons.

The alliance that matters is with the trapper Raphael, who shows her how to fire a flintlock pistol. Her herbs help mask his body heat from the creature, though it kills him regardless, and Taabe falls in his own fight with it. Left alone, Naru ties the last trapper to a line as bait, draws the Predator into the bog and turns its mask and weapon on it.

How did Naru beat the Predator? Brains and terrain, not strength. It is a tactic that echoes Dutch in Predator (1987), who smears himself with mud to hide his heat and drops a heavy log on the creature. She carries the head home, is named a war chief and tells the tribe it is time to move on.

Naru's most important relationship is with her brother Taabe, played by Dakota Beavers, because he is both her doubter and her family. When his kill of the mountain lion makes him war chief, the gap between his status and hers grows. The French fur trappers who take Naru also hold him, and he dies fighting the Predator, which leaves her to finish the hunt alone.

Raphael, played by Bennett Taylor, is the unlikely teacher. He is one of the French fur trappers who hold Naru, yet he shows her how to use a flintlock pistol, and her herbs help hide his body heat from the creature. The Predator kills him. The flintlock lesson matters later, since the film is built around Naru turning borrowed tools into advantages.

Her dog goes with her into the woods at the start of her search, and it is the one companion beside her when the hunt begins.

Her last relationship is with the Predator itself, which the Yautja page covers as a species. In Prey (2022) it is a lone, feral hunter that treats Naru as prey at first and as a worthy opponent only late.

Outside her own film, Naru is among the captured warriors in stasis in Predator: Killer of Killers. An extended ending added on July 25, 2025 also shows Dutch Schaefer and Mike Harrigan among the frozen captives, which puts her in the same stored company as the heroes of Predator (1987) and Predator 2.

After Prey (2022), Naru is last seen in stasis, stored as a captive aboard a Predator ship in Predator: Killer of Killers (2025). That is the answer to what happened to Naru after Prey (2022), and it comes from a single image rather than a scene.

In Prey (2022) itself, Naru defeats the Predator by luring it into a bog and using its own gear against it. She returns to her village carrying its trophy and is accepted as a war chief. She advises her people to relocate because more danger may come. Over the end credits, ledger style artwork shows several Predator ships descending toward the tribe. No separate live action post credit scene was confirmed.

Killer of Killers, directed by Dan Trachtenberg, is an anthology about a Viking named Ursa, two brothers in 1609 Japan and a mechanic drafted into the US Navy in 1942. Ursa is placed back into stasis in a storage facility full of frozen victors, and one of the pods holds Naru, which ties the film to the wider franchise. Prey (2022) ends with Naru at her village, so the pod image points to a later capture, and that is an inference from the order of events.

Her status as of November 2026 is alive and in stasis. No film has shown her waking. Whether she appears again is unannounced: no title, date or production status exists for a new Predator film after Predator: Badlands, as covered on the new predator movie page.

In my opinion, the best Naru scene is the bog finale, because it pays off every lesson the film has taught her. She has already survived a bog, a bear and the trappers, so by the time she lures the feral Predator into the mud she is using terrain she learned the hard way. She then turns its own mask and weapon against it. It could be argued that this is the cleanest example in the saga of a human beating the creature with its own rules.

My second pick is the flintlock lesson with Raphael. It is a quiet scene in a film that is otherwise brutal, and it works because the tool she learns to use is unfamiliar and still ends up deciding the outcome. Her herbs hiding his body heat from the creature is a small detail that shows a healer thinking like a hunter.

Third, the opening sky sequence. Naru reads the streak as a sign from the Thunderbird, and nobody listens. It is a neat way to introduce her skill and her isolation in one beat, and it makes the later vindication land.

Is Naru from Prey (2022) a final girl? Perhaps, in the loose sense that she is the survivor who faces the monster alone, but she differs from the classic horror type because she spends the film proving she is a hunter, not escaping one. Compared with Dutch in Predator (1987), who is already a veteran, Naru earns her place on screen, and that is why the closing credit art, with ships coming down toward her tribe, gives me a small chill rather than a victory lap.
