What Is Deadpool and Wolverine About?

Deadpool and Wolverine is about Wade Wilson, a retired Deadpool who is pulled into the Time Variance Authority's business and told that his entire universe is about to be erased. The film sits between The Marvels and Captain America: Brave New World in the saga's release order.

Wade has hung up the Deadpool suit and works as a used car salesman, unhappy and drifting. The Time Variance Authority (the TVA) picks him up, and an agent called Mr. Paradox explains that his universe is dying because its key figure, Logan, is dead. Wade wants to stay in his own world with his friends, so he goes looking for a different version of Wolverine to take Logan's place. What he finds is a worn out, bitter Logan from another timeline, and the two fall out badly at first.

Deadpool & Wolverine Soundtrack and Score: Every Song Explained

Rob Simonsen composed the score for Deadpool & Wolverine (2024), and Hollywood Records put out both the score album, "Deadpool & Wolverine: Original Score" (33 tracks), and the song collection, "Deadpool & Wolverine: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack" (50 tracks), on July 24, 2024.

The needle drops carry much of the film's personality, and three of them have a clear home in the story. "Bye Bye Bye" by *NSYNC opens the film over the credits, as Deadpool takes on Time Variance Authority officers and dance breaks cut into the violence. "Like a Prayer" by Madonna arrives during the big climactic action sequence, in a version reworked with a gospel choir. "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)" by Green Day closes things out over the end credits montage, which gathers clips from the Fox-era X-Men and other Marvel films along with behind-the-scenes footage.

One track was made for the movie itself: "Slash" by Stray Kids, which is marked as an original song. The rest of the lineup rounds out the mix with a mingled range of eras, from The Platters to the Goo Goo Dolls to Waylon Jennings.

Deadpool and Wolverine Plot, Told in FullSpoilers

The full plot follows Wade's refusal to accept that his timeline must end, and it resolves with Wade and Logan destroying a universe killing machine together. Spoilers follow from here.

Paradox tells Wade that his timeline will be erased because its anchor, Logan, has died. Wade refuses and goes through the multiverse to find another Wolverine who can stand in as the anchor. He finds a grieving, drunken Logan, and after a rough start he drags him along. The pair are thrown into the Void, a wasteland where the TVA dumps pruned timelines and where Cassandra Nova rules.

In the Void they end up working with a band of outcast heroes and variants who live there. Along the way Wade and Logan fight, argue and slowly come to rely on each other. Cassandra plans to use the Time Ripper, a device that can destroy whole universes. Wade and Logan stop it by working together and sharing the burden of its energy. The device explodes and Cassandra is killed, and the two survive.

Afterward Paradox is arrested for what he did to the TVA. Hunter B-15 lets Logan stay in Wade's universe but will not change Logan's past. The closing scene has Logan nudging Wade to patch things up with Vanessa, and then joining Wade's friends at his place.

When Was the Deadpool and Wolverine Premiere and Release Date?

Deadpool and Wolverine premiered on July 22, 2024 at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center in New York City, and it opened in theaters on July 25 in the UK and Australia and July 26 in the US.

Box Office Mojo and TMDB report those dates. The staggered opening, with the UK and Australia a day ahead of the US, matches the pattern of several other releases in the saga, including Thor: Love and Thunder. In the UK, Disney reported that the film took the number one spot at the UK and Ireland box office on its opening weekend.

If you want the streaming picture rather than the theatrical one, the film is on Disney Plus in the US, UK and Australia as of November 3, 2026, alongside rent and buy options. The full country breakdown is on where to watch Marvel.

Deadpool and Wolverine Ending ExplainedSpoilers

The ending of Deadpool and Wolverine has Wade and Logan destroy the Time Ripper together, and it lets Logan stay in Wade's universe. Spoilers for the final act follow.

Wade and Logan destroy the Time Ripper together and Cassandra Nova dies in the blast. Both survive by sharing its force, which is the film's way of showing that the pair now rely on each other. Mr. Paradox is jailed, and the TVA allows Logan to remain in Wade's universe. B-15 will not change Logan's past. The film ends with the two as friends, and it is left open where they go next in the MCU.

In my opinion, the shared burden is the smartest choice in the film. The Time Ripper could have been beaten by a single heroic sacrifice, the way Avengers: Endgame (181 minutes) built its finale around one costly act. Deadpool and Wolverine runs 128 minutes, and splitting the cost keeps it true to its odd couple setup, where neither man is allowed to be the lone hero. Perhaps the cleaner payoff is Logan pushing Wade back toward Vanessa, since it ties the multiverse plot to something small and personal.

The film also answers a problem that earlier multiverse stories left open. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness used cameos such as Patrick Stewart as Professor Charles Xavier to hint at other worlds, whereas here the Void, where the TVA dumps pruned timelines, becomes a real place where Wade and Logan fight alongside outcast variants. B-15's refusal to alter Logan's past is the cost that keeps the happy ending honest: he stays, but his loss is not undone.

Production context explains some of that restraint. Principal photography began on May 22, 2023, was suspended on July 14, 2023 because of the SAG-AFTRA strike, resumed in November 2023 and wrapped on January 24, 2024. A story built on two leads trading barbs in a few locations suited a shoot that had to stop and restart.

Why did Hugh Jackman quit Wolverine? The film itself starts from the fact that Logan, the Wolverine of Wade's universe, is dead, and Jackman returns here as a different Logan from another timeline. No studio or trade source gives a reason for his earlier departure from the role, so any answer beyond what the film shows would be a guess.

The saga's next release is Avengers: Doomsday, scheduled for December 18, 2026. For the wider order of events, see the Marvel timeline.

Deadpool and Wolverine Post Credit ScenesSpoilers

Deadpool and Wolverine has two credit scenes: a mid credits montage and a post credits flashback. Spoilers follow.

The mid credits montage shows clips and behind the scenes material from the 20th Century Fox Marvel films, set to Green Day's Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) and ending on the old Fox logo. The post credits scene is a flashback showing Deadpool, Wolverine and Johnny Storm being taken to Cassandra Nova, where Johnny does say the insults Deadpool had claimed he said earlier.

Where Was Deadpool and Wolverine Filmed?

Deadpool and Wolverine was filmed mostly in England, with studio work at Pinewood Studios and location shooting in London, Norfolk and Buckinghamshire.

The filming locations are:

  • London, England
  • Pinewood Studios, Buckinghamshire, England (studio work)
  • Bovingdon Film Studios, Hertfordshire, England
  • Norfolk, England
  • Black Park Country Park, Burnham Beeches, Ivinghoe and Pitstone, Buckinghamshire, England
  • Los Angeles, California (one day)

The Buckinghamshire Film Office lists Black Park, Burnham Beeches, Ivinghoe and Pitstone among the local sites. Principal photography began on May 22, 2023 and wrapped on January 24, 2024. Production was suspended on July 14, 2023 because of the SAG-AFTRA strike and resumed in November 2023, so the shoot spanned two separate stretches.
