Marvel Box Office Numbers: Every MCU Movie's Worldwide Gross

Avengers: Endgame (2019), directed by Joe Russo and Anthony Russo, leads the Marvel box office with $2.94 billion worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo, and the 38 theatrical Marvel Cinematic Universe films add up to about $35.2 billion. That total sums the worldwide figure for every film from Iron Man (2008), directed by Jon Favreau, to Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026), using Box Office Mojo throughout and The Numbers for Brand New Day. The two Disney+ specials, Werewolf by Night and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, never played in theaters and sit outside the total. For the full film list, see how many Marvel movies there are, or return to the Marvel movies hub.

The Top 10 Highest Grossing MCU Movies

The ten highest grossing MCU movies all cleared $1.15 billion worldwide, and three of them passed $2 billion. Each line gives the worldwide gross and the production budget.

  1. Avengers: Endgame (2019): $2.94 billion on a $356 million budget.
  2. Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026): $2.52 billion on a $225 million budget.
  3. Avengers: Infinity War (2018): $2.05 billion on a $350 million budget.
  4. Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021): $1.92 billion on a $200 million budget.
  5. The Avengers (2012): $1.52 billion on a $220 million budget.
  6. Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015): $1.41 billion on a $250 million budget.
  7. Black Panther (2018): $1.35 billion on a $200 million budget.
  8. Deadpool & Wolverine (2024): $1.34 billion on a $537 million listed budget.
  9. Iron Man 3 (2013): $1.22 billion on a $200 million budget.
  10. Captain America: Civil War (2016): $1.16 billion on a $250 million budget.

Box Office Mojo's total for Avengers: Endgame includes its September 2026 re-release. The Numbers and Box Office Mojo differ by a few million dollars on The Avengers (2012), Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: No Way Home, so the figures above follow Box Office Mojo. Brand New Day follows The Numbers, updated on November 2, 2026, while Box Office Mojo lists it about $1.5 million lower. Both round to $2.52 billion.

What Is the Total Marvel Box Office Worldwide?

The 38 films have earned about $35.2 billion worldwide between them, an average of roughly $925 million a film. The 34 films outside the Spider-Man set account for about $28.7 billion of that, and the four Spider-Man films add about $6.5 billion. Those four are covered in full on the Spider-Man franchise pages, so here they appear as numbers only:

The series began modestly by today's standards, with Iron Man (2008) at $586 million and Iron Man 2 at $624 million. The Avengers (2012) then more than doubled that opening figure, and Iron Man 3 followed at $1.22 billion.

Which Marvel Movies Earned the Least?

The Marvels is the lowest grossing film in the MCU, with $206 million worldwide against a $270 million budget. Four more films sit between $265 million and $382 million:

  1. The Marvels (2023): $206 million worldwide, $84.5 million of it domestic.
  2. The Incredible Hulk (2008): $265 million on a $150 million budget.
  3. Captain America: The First Avenger (2011): $371 million on a $140 million budget.
  4. Black Widow (2021): $380 million on a $200 million budget.
  5. Thunderbolts\* (2025): $382 million on a $180 million budget.

Eternals (2021) at $402 million and Captain America: Brave New World at $415 million come next, which makes Brave New World the seventh lowest grosser of the 38.

How Does the Marvel Box Office Split Between Domestic and International?

Most MCU films earn more abroad than at home, and the biggest ones lean on international audiences the hardest. Avengers: Endgame took $2.04 billion internationally against $898 million domestically. Iron Man 3 earned about two thirds of its total overseas ($807 million of $1.22 billion), and its release included a China specific version with extra footage, made with the co-producer DMG, as TheWrap reported.

The Black Panther films are the clearest exceptions. Black Panther (2018) earned $700 million domestically against $649 million internationally, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever earned $454 million at home against $405 million abroad. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings ($225 million domestic, $208 million international) and The Fantastic 4: First Steps ($274 million against $248 million) also earned more at home. Brand New Day holds the highest domestic total in the series at $959 million.

What Is the Avengers: Doomsday Box Office So Far?

Avengers: Doomsday has no box office yet, because Disney lists it for release exclusively in theaters on December 18, 2026. Box Office Mojo shows no budget and no grosses for it. TheWrap reported in May 2025 that the film moved from May 1, 2026 to December 18, 2026, and that Avengers: Secret Wars moved from May 7, 2027 to December 17, 2027.

Marvel Box Office Flop or Hit? Gross Against Budget

Only one MCU film, The Marvels (2023), directed by Nia DaCosta, grossed less than its listed budget, and the rest of the series runs from about 11.2 times its budget for Spider-Man: Brand New Day down to 0.76 times for that film. That ratio is a blunt tool, because theaters keep a share of every ticket and marketing costs sit outside the budget, so in my opinion a film needs to clear roughly twice its budget before anyone should call it comfortable. Studios do not publish an exact break even point, and a gross figure alone cannot settle whether a film made or lost money.

Which Marvel Films Were the Biggest Winners?

The best returns come from films that were cheap relative to their reach. After Brand New Day and Spider-Man: No Way Home (about 9.6 times its $200 million budget), Avengers: Endgame is third, returning about 8.3 times its $356 million budget. Captain Marvel (2019) and Spider-Man: Far From Home both returned about 7.1 times on $160 million budgets. The Avengers (2012) managed about 6.9 times, Black Panther (2018) about 6.7 times and Iron Man 3 about 6.1 times. Avengers: Infinity War carried a $350 million budget, just under Endgame's $356 million, and it still returned about 5.9 times. The Avengers (2012) also showed the commercial ceiling early, setting an opening weekend record of about $207 million in the US, according to CBS News.

How Much Money Did The Marvels Lose?

The Marvels grossed $206 million worldwide on a $270 million budget, which leaves its gross below its production cost. Its domestic total was $84.5 million, and its worldwide gross was only about 18 percent of what Captain Marvel (2019) earned four years earlier. A gross below budget does not by itself fix a loss figure, since the theater share and marketing costs both move the answer, and I will not guess at a number that nobody has published. In my opinion, the release backdrop hurt as well: its Las Vegas screening on November 7, 2023 went ahead without its cast, who were absent because of the actors' strike, according to News3LV.

How Much Has Marvel Lost Overall?

No overall loss figure has been published, but by the gross against budget measure The Marvels is the only MCU film that failed to earn back its listed budget at the box office. Two others, The Incredible Hulk (2008) at about 1.8 times and Black Widow (2021) at about 1.9 times, finished under twice their budgets. Everything else cleared two times, and most cleared three. Perhaps the fairer reading is that Marvel has had a handful of expensive disappointments rather than a collapse, with the three films that passed $2 billion carrying a very large share of the $35.2 billion.

Is Captain America 4 a Flop or a Hit?

Captain America: Brave New World (2025), directed by Julius Onah, is a soft result rather than a flop in my opinion. It grossed $415 million worldwide on a $180 million budget, about 2.3 times, with $200.5 million of that domestic. That is below Captain America: The Winter Soldier at about 4.2 times, Captain America: Civil War at about 4.6 times and even the first film at about 2.6 times. It did out-gross Captain America: The First Avenger in raw dollars ($415 million against $371 million). I cannot see Disney's profit accounting, so the verdict is about performance against the franchise's own history.

What Do Thunderbolts\* and The Fantastic 4: First Steps Show?

The two other recent releases landed in the middle. Thunderbolts\* (2025), directed by Jake Schreier, earned $382 million on $180 million, about 2.1 times. The Fantastic 4: First Steps (2025), directed by Matt Shakman, earned $522 million on $200 million, about 2.6 times, with $274 million domestically, the highest domestic total of the three 2025 releases.

The pattern I see is that the biggest recent grosses came from films built around a returning marquee name: Deadpool & Wolverine reached $1.34 billion, and Brand New Day reached $2.52 billion. The listed $537 million budget for Deadpool & Wolverine is far above the series norm, so its ratio of about 2.5 times deserves caution. Several other recent films without that kind of draw finished between $206 million and $522 million.

Will Avengers: Doomsday Make $2 Billion?

Nobody can say yet, because only three MCU films have passed $2 billion so far: Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Infinity War. Of the four Avengers team films released to date, two cleared that mark ($2.94 billion and $2.05 billion), while The Avengers (2012) earned $1.52 billion and Avengers: Age of Ultron $1.41 billion. Perhaps Avengers: Doomsday can join the group, given that Brand New Day has reached $2.52 billion, according to The Numbers as of November 2, 2026, but a $2 billion total is far from guaranteed, and no sourced forecast or budget exists for it yet. Check the Avengers: Doomsday trailer page and the release details before opening weekend, and use Marvel movies ranked if you want the order by quality rather than by gross.
