Viktor Drago: Who He Is, Who Plays Him and What Happens to Him
Viktor Drago is the son of Ivan Drago and Ludmilla Vobet Drago, played by Florian Munteanu in Creed II (2018) and Creed III (2023). He is the heavyweight his father trains to avenge his defeat by Rocky Balboa, and he fights Adonis Creed twice in Creed II.
Who Plays Viktor Drago?
Who Is Viktor Drago?
Viktor Drago is a young heavyweight boxer and the son of Ivan Drago, the Soviet fighter who killed Apollo Creed in the ring in Rocky IV (1985). Florian Munteanu plays him in Creed II (2018), directed by Steven Caple Jr., and again in Creed III (2023), directed by Michael B. Jordan. He is billed eighth in both films.
His mother is Ludmilla Vobet Drago, played by Brigitte Nielsen, who first appeared as Ivan's wife in Rocky IV. His father is played by Dolph Lundgren, so Viktor is the second generation of a family that already shaped the saga once. When Creed II opens, Ivan has resurfaced in Ukraine, broke, and he is preparing Viktor to avenge his own defeat by Rocky Balboa decades earlier. A promoter named Buddy Marcelle, played by Russell Hornsby, builds a title fight around that story.
Viktor is a hungry young challenger carrying a name he did not choose, and that is what separates him from a plain rival. If you are new to the saga, the rocky movies in order guide shows where Rocky IV sits before his story begins.

Viktor Drago in Creed II and Creed III: The Story ArcSpoilers
Viktor's arc runs through two films: a title fight and a rematch in Creed II, then a smaller role in Creed III. The setup in Creed II is simple. Adonis Creed has just won the heavyweight title and proposed to Bianca, and Marcelle sets up a defense against Viktor. Rocky refuses to work Adonis's corner because he fears history will repeat itself, so Adonis trains with Tony "Little Duke" Evers and moves to Los Angeles with Bianca.
The first fight goes badly for Adonis. He takes it underprepared, is badly beaten, and keeps the title only because Viktor is disqualified for an illegal blow. Adonis then falls into a physical and emotional slump, and his mother Mary Anne persuades Rocky to help him prepare for a rematch.
Away from the ring, Ivan drives his son hard, and Viktor is visibly shaken when his estranged mother Ludmilla appears at a state dinner. In the Moscow rematch, Adonis absorbs heavy damage and then knocks Viktor down twice in round ten. Ludmilla walks out of the arena, and Ivan throws in the towel to protect his son.
In Creed III, Viktor is scheduled to fight Felix Chavez, the young boxer Donnie (Adonis Creed) manages at the Delphi Boxing Academy. Viktor is attacked before the bout, and Donnie puts Dame Anderson in as the replacement.
Viktor Drago's Family and Rivals
Viktor's key relationships are with his father Ivan, his estranged mother Ludmilla and his rival Adonis Creed. Ivan trains him in Ukraine and pushes him toward a fight with the Creed name, while Ludmilla stays apart from the family. Her appearance at a state dinner in Creed II leaves Viktor visibly shaken.
His rival is Adonis Creed, the son of the man Ivan killed. The two meet twice in Creed II. Their link runs back to Apollo Creed, whose death in Rocky IV is the reason the Drago and Creed families are tied together.
Rocky Balboa sits on the edge of the story. He beat Ivan Drago in Moscow in Rocky IV, and he trains Adonis for the Creed II rematch in a desert camp built around taking punishment and fighting from close range. Promoter Buddy Marcelle is the man who sets the fight up.
In Creed III, Viktor is booked to fight Felix Chavez, who is managed by Donnie at the Delphi Boxing Academy, so his story touches Donnie's gym even before the attack that removes him from the card.
What Happens to Viktor Drago? His Fate ExplainedSpoilers
Viktor loses the Moscow rematch to Adonis Creed when Ivan throws in the towel, and he walks away with his family still together. Ivan tells his son that losing is acceptable, and the two go back to training together in Ukraine, with the focus now on family rather than revenge.
Creed III shows him still in the sport. He is booked to fight Felix Chavez, is attacked before the bout, and is replaced by Dame Anderson. When Donnie prepares to face Dame at Dodger Stadium, he trains with Duke and "a recovered Drago." The plot summary does not name which Drago, so taking that as Viktor is an inference.
The fights on screen are two with Adonis, one lost by disqualification and one ended by a thrown towel, plus the scheduled Chavez bout in Creed III that he does not get to fight. As of Creed III he is alive and still part of the boxing world. Any future appearance would depend on creed 4, which is in development with no official date or studio announcement.
Best Viktor Drago Moments (Opinion)
In my opinion, the best Viktor moment is the quiet one: Ludmilla walks out of the Moscow arena. It could be argued that the punches matter less than that exit, because it shows what his family has lost in chasing his father's old grudge.
The second is the round ten knockdowns. Adonis has been absorbing punishment all night, so when he drops Viktor twice in a single round, the fight turns on the plan Rocky and Little Duke built in the desert: take it, stay close, wait. Viktor does not look beaten so much as overtaken by that preparation.
The third is the towel. Ivan, who spent years defined by a fight he lost, stops this one himself. It is a rare case in this saga of a father choosing his son over the result, and perhaps the reason Viktor is a more sympathetic figure than most opponents in the series.
