Who Is Letty Ortiz in Fast and Furious?
Letty Ortiz is a member of Dominic Toretto's crew and his partner, played by Michelle Rodriguez in seven main saga films. She first appears in The Fast and the Furious (2001), directed by Rob Cohen, where the tight crew around Dom includes Letty, Vince, Leon and Jesse. Rodriguez is billed third in that film, behind Paul Walker and Vin Diesel.
Between the first and fourth main films she also appears in Los Bandoleros (2009), a 20 minute short written and directed by Vin Diesel. In it, Letty has been separated from Dom and sets out to find him, which feeds directly into the next feature.
Her later main saga appearances are Fast & Furious (2009), directed by Justin Lin, Fast & Furious 6 (2013), also directed by Lin, and Furious 7 (2015), directed by James Wan. After those come The Fate of the Furious (2017), directed by F. Gary Gray, F9 (2021), directed by Lin, and Fast X (2023), directed by Louis Leterrier. Rodriguez is billed third in 2001 and 2009, fifth in 2013, fourth in 2015 and 2017, and second in 2021 and 2023. For the saga's vehicles, see the Fast and Furious cars page.

Letty Ortiz Story Arc: From Crew Member to Presumed Dead and BackSpoilers
Letty Ortiz goes from a core member of Dominic Toretto's crew to presumed dead in Fast & Furious (2009), returns without her memory in Fast & Furious 6 (2013), and regains it in Furious 7 (2015). In The Fast and the Furious (2001) she is part of the crew that Brian O'Conner infiltrates, and she is among the people who learn he is an undercover cop. In Los Bandoleros (2009) she sets out to find Dom after they were separated. In Fast & Furious (2009), Dom leaves her behind to keep her safe from the law, then hears that she has been murdered. He returns to Los Angeles, traces the killing to a green Ford Torino and learns that its driver works for a drug lord.
The reveal that she may be alive comes in a mid credits scene in Fast Five (2011), where Monica Fuentes hands Luke Hobbs a file that includes a recent photo of Letty. In Fast & Furious 6, Hobbs shows Dom evidence that she is alive and working for Owen Shaw. In London, Dom confronts Letty, who has lost her memory and does not know him. A later confrontation pulls her toward Dom's side, she starts to remember, and she rejoins the family after the airfield battle. Furious 7 opens with Dom helping Letty recover her memory, and it ends with her telling him that she has her memories back.
The later films treat her as the center of Dom's home life. The Fate of the Furious (2017) opens with Dom and Letty on their honeymoon in Havana, and F9 (2021) finds Letty living quietly with Dom and his young son. In Fast X (2023), the Rome job turns out to be a trap, Letty is arrested after the neutron mine blast, and Tess (played by Brie Larson), who uses the God's Eye surveillance program to track Dom, shoots her. Letty is then taken to a secret facility where Cipher is also held, and the two of them work out that it is in Antarctica.
Who Is Letty Close To? Dom, Mia and the Crew
Letty Ortiz is closest to Dominic Toretto, her partner, and to the rest of his crew and family, including Mia Toretto, Brian O'Conner and Han Lue. Dom is her partner from the first film, and in Fast & Furious (2009) his choice to leave her behind is made to protect her, which sets up the whole film. Dom's young son, Brian "Little B" Toretto, lives with Dom and Letty.
Mia is Dom's sister and a longtime member of the same circle, and Letty rejoins that family at the end of Fast & Furious 6 (2013). Brian is the undercover cop who joins the circle in the first film, and by 2009 he is the FBI agent working the drug lord case that crosses Dom's path. Han appears alongside Letty in Los Bandoleros (2009), where he meets Dom in the Dominican Republic. In Fast & Furious 6, Luke Hobbs is the one who shows Dom that Letty is alive, and Owen Shaw leads the team she is working with.
Three more characters tie into her story in Fast X (2023). Cipher is held in the same Antarctica facility as Letty in Fast X. Gisele Yashar rescues Letty and Cipher. Dante Reyes is the villain of Fast X.
What Happened to Letty Ortiz? Her Fate After Fast XSpoilers
Letty Ortiz is alive at the end of Fast X (2023), rescued from a secret Antarctica facility by Gisele Yashar, though the film ends on a cliffhanger. Letty is shot in Fast X but survives to the final scene. In that Antarctica scene, Gisele, thought dead, emerges from a submarine and rescues Letty and Cipher. Meanwhile Dominic Toretto drives off a dam with his young son, Brian "Little B" Toretto, while Dante Reyes sets off explosives, and the film leaves that outcome open. Letty's own story is therefore unresolved.
The next film is Fast Forever. No cast has been announced for Fast Forever, so Letty's return is not confirmed. Universal dated Fast Forever for March 17, 2028 (Variety, TheWrap), and Vin Diesel told Variety Australia on August 18, 2026 that shooting starts in December. One unconfirmed report relayed by Film Stories on October 8, 2026, from The Insneider, claims there is no finished script and a possible early 2028 shoot start. Treat that as a rumor.
Best Letty Ortiz Moments in Fast and Furious
The best Letty Ortiz moment is the Fast Five (2011) mid credits photo, because one still image reverses the death that Fast & Furious (2009) built its story on. It is also the cleanest piece of setup in the saga, since everything that follows hangs from that single frame.
The sequence runs in order. Monica Fuentes hands Luke Hobbs the photo, then Hobbs shows Dominic Toretto the evidence in Fast & Furious 6 (2013), which gets Dom to the table. The London confrontation follows, where Letty does not know Dom, and that scene lands harder than the chase around it. The story pays off in Furious 7 (2015), when she tells Dom she has her memories back.
The opening choice in Fast & Furious (2009), where Dom walks away from Letty for her own safety, is a close second, since everything in her arc grows out of that one decision.

Did Dom marry Letty?
Yes. Dominic Toretto and Letty Ortiz are married by The Fate of the Furious (2017), which opens on their honeymoon in Havana. Dom's young son, Brian "Little B" Toretto, lives with Dom and Letty by the time of F9 (2021).
