The Mummy 4 is set for a US theatrical release on October 15, 2027. Variety's Australian edition repeated that date in its October 16, 2026 article on the title announcement, and the date has held since a schedule change earlier in the year.

The date has moved once. Universal first announced May 19, 2028 in February 2026, as reported by Variety and TheWrap. On April 25, 2026, Variety reported that the film had moved up to October 15, 2027, which pulled the release forward by about seven months. The studio and the trades now agree on the October 2027 date, which is why it counts as confirmed.

No UK or Australian release date has been published, so both stay to be confirmed, and any local date you see online should be treated as a guess until Universal announces it.

The gap is long by franchise standards. The last main film, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, reached US theaters on August 1, 2008, so the October 2027 release lands 19 years later. The first film, The Mummy (1999), opened on May 7, 1999. For official footage, see the mummy 4 trailer, which tracks studio releases only.

Is There Going to Be a Fourth Mummy Movie?

Yes, the fourth Mummy film exists on Universal's slate, and its status is announced. The studio lists it as The Mummy: Book of the Dead on its official site, and the title was made official on October 15, 2026.

The road to that announcement was short. On November 4, 2025, TheWrap reported that Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz were in talks to return for a new Mummy film at Universal, with Radio Silence directing and David Coggeshall writing, and Universal declined to comment at the time. In February 2026, Variety and TheWrap reported that the studio had made it official, with the Fraser and Weisz deals closed. So, is the Mummy 4 really happening? The studio has named it, dated it and attached a director, which is a plain yes.

One caution on production. No studio statement or trade report confirms that cameras have started rolling, so the status stays at announced rather than in production. Plot details have not been disclosed either.

It also helps to keep the titles straight, because "The Mummy" now covers several films. The main saga is the mummy 1999, the mummy returns and the mummy tomb of the dragon emperor, and Book of the Dead is the next entry in that line. Lee Cronin's The Mummy (2026) is a separate film and not part of this franchise. For the full run, see the mummy movies and the mummy movies in order.

The Mummy 4 Cast: Who Is Returning?

Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, John Hannah, Kevin J. O'Connor, Oded Fehr, Numan Acar and Michael Johnston are reported to be in the cast of The Mummy: Book of the Dead. The A.V. Club reported that list on October 15, 2026, alongside the title announcement, and it stays reported rather than confirmed because no roles have been named.

Five of those names are familiar. Fraser led the original trilogy as Rick O'Connell, and Weisz played Evelyn in the first two films before Maria Bello took the part in 2008, as Variety reported at the time. Hannah played Jonathan Carnahan in all three, Fehr was the warrior Ardeth Bay in the first two, and O'Connor played Beni Gabor in The Mummy (1999). Acar and Johnston are the new names in the report. No source says which characters anyone plays, so a Rick, Evelyn, Jonathan or Ardeth appearance is not confirmed for the new film.

Behind the camera, the reported crew is Radio Silence directing, David Coggeshall writing, and Sean Daniel, William Sherak, James Vanderbilt and Paul Neinstein producing, per TheWrap. For the people and roles from the earlier films, see the mummy cast, rick oconnell, evelyn the mummy, jonathan the mummy and ardeth bay.

Mummy 4 Rumors and Fan Made Trailers

There are no sourced rumors about the Mummy 4 right now, and the loudest material online is fan made. The one early report that mattered, TheWrap's November 2025 story on Fraser and Weisz being in talks, was followed by the official announcement, so it no longer counts as a rumor.

That leaves two kinds of content to treat with care. Fan made trailers rank well in search for the mummy 4, but they are edits by viewers, not studio releases, and they show nothing from the real production. Fan cast lists are the same: any name outside the A.V. Club's reported seven has no source behind it.

Plot is the biggest open question. Universal has not disclosed a story, a setting or a villain, so claims about Imhotep returning, a new curse or a time jump are guesses. Until a credible outlet reports a plot detail, treat all of them that way.

What We Know About The Mummy 4 So Far

What we know is a short list: a title, a US date, a director and a reported cast, with the plot still unannounced. In my opinion, that is enough to take the project seriously and not enough to predict its tone.

The reported cast is the strongest signal. The three films from 1999 to 2008 leaned on the chemistry between Fraser, Weisz and Hannah, and it could be argued that this reunion is the main selling point, much like a long running television show bringing back its original ensemble for one more season. Radio Silence is the wild card, in my opinion, since nothing reported so far shows how the directing team will approach the material.

The title is my other clue, and a speculative one. "Book of the Dead" points back toward Egyptian burial lore, which fits the series' roots, and readers who want that background can start with the mummy egyptian mythology. It could be that the film is a direct sequel, a legacy reboot or something in between, and nothing published settles it.

If you are new to the series, watch the three main films first, using the mummy timeline for the story order and where to watch the mummy to find them. That way, October 15, 2027 will land with the right context.
