What Is the Ballerina John Wick Movie About?

Ballerina follows Eve, a young woman raised by the Ruska Roma, the assassin tradition led by the Director (Anjelica Huston), who wants revenge on the cult that killed her father. She trains as a killer and spends years looking for the people responsible.

A lead eventually takes her to Prague, where she meets Daniel Pine (Norman Reedus), a cult member on the run with his young daughter Ella. From there the trail points toward the cult's stronghold in Hallstatt, Austria.

The story lines up with John Wick 3, where John Wick kills a member of the High Table inside the Continental, is declared excommunicado and is given passage to Casablanca by the Director of the Ruska Roma. That Director is the same woman who oversees Eve's training here, and she is the clearest bridge between the two films. Because Ballerina is set during Chapter 3, it sits fourth in chronological order even though it was released fifth, and the john wick movies in order guide shows where to slot it in.

What Songs Are in From the World of John Wick: Ballerina?

Tyler Bates composed the score for From the World of John Wick: Ballerina (2025), and ten featured songs sit alongside his work.

One of the ten was written for the film: "Fight Like a Girl" by Evanescence and K.Flay, which plays over the end credits. It is the only song with a documented place in the film, so it is the one to listen for if you stay in your seat as the credits roll.

The other nine come from a wide spread of acts, from Linkin Park and Godsmack to Ashnikko, Max Richter and Søren Bebe. Le Castle Vania supplies three tracks, more than any other act, and Richter is represented by a Robot Koch remix of one of his pieces rather than the original recording.

The featured songs are:

  • "Fight Like a Girl" by Evanescence and K.Flay (written for the film)
  • "The Emptiness Machine" by Linkin Park
  • "Surrender" by Godsmack
  • "Chokehold Cherry Python" by Ashnikko
  • "The Four Seasons: Summer 3 (Robot Koch Remix)" by Max Richter
  • "So What Now" by The Peter Blair Combo
  • "Minus Eleven" by Le Castle Vania
  • "Ballerina Code" by Le Castle Vania
  • "One Bullet Well Placed" by Le Castle Vania
  • "Grand Allegro" by Søren Bebe

The scores and songs from every film in the series are collected on the john wick soundtrack page.

Ballerina Plot Explained: Full SynopsisSpoilers

The full plot of Ballerina runs from a childhood loss in the Ruska Roma to a bounty notice in a theater, with stops in Prague and Hallstatt. Eve trains as a killer after her father is killed by a cult, and a tip sends her to Prague, where she crosses paths with Daniel Pine, a cult member trying to protect his daughter Ella.

Eve follows the cult to Hallstatt, a town where nearly everyone seems to belong to the group, and she fights her way through the townspeople. A woman at the hotel captures her and turns out to be her older sister, Lena (Catalina Sandino Moreno). Lena explains that their father took only Eve when he escaped. Grenades then badly wound both sisters, and Lena dies after telling Eve she missed her.

The Director sends John Wick to stop Eve, but he gives her a short window to deal with the Chancellor (Gabriel Byrne), the cult's leader. Eve battles through the town, flamethrower included. The Chancellor tries to flee with his granddaughter Ella, but Eve shoots him and rescues the girl. Pine survives and is reunited with his daughter.

Winston warns Eve that the surviving cult members will come after her. At a performance of Swan Lake featuring her friend Tatiana, Eve receives a message about a 5 million dollar bounty on her head and leaves the theater.

Ballerina Ending Explained and Sequel SetupSpoilers

The ending of Ballerina settles Eve's revenge but leaves her hunted, which mirrors the position John Wick is in at the start of Chapter 3. Eve kills the Chancellor and saves Ella, who goes back to her father Pine. John Wick tells the Director that the Chancellor is dead, and she accepts that and leaves. Eve then takes refuge at the New York Continental, where Winston tells her that the cult's survivors will seek revenge.

Why does John let her finish? The Director sent him to stop Eve, and he instead gives her a short window to deal with the Chancellor. In my opinion, that is the neatest use of his cameo, because he acts as a judge who bends the order rather than as a hired gun, and it fits a man who is himself under a sentence in Chapter 3.

The last scene is the sequel hook. At the ballet featuring Tatiana, a bounty notice for Eve goes out to people in the audience, and she leaves the theater. It could be argued that this is the film's sharpest choice, since it flips Chapter 3, where a huge bounty is about to take effect on John, into a bounty that has already landed on Eve. Perhaps that is why the sequel question stays open.

Is there a Ballerina John Wick 2? No sequel has been announced, though the ending leaves Eve hunted and open to one. What Lionsgate did announce, at CinemaCon on April 1, 2025, according to TheWrap, is that john wick 5 is in development with Keanu Reeves, Chad Stahelski and Thunder Road, with no date set.

Where Was Ballerina Filmed?

Ballerina was filmed mainly in Prague, Czech Republic, with additional filming in Hungary, according to production listings on The Numbers. The story itself travels further than that, taking Eve from Prague to the cult's stronghold in Hallstatt, Austria, and later to the New York Continental.

Prague is also the first stop on Eve's trail, the city where she meets Daniel Pine and his daughter Ella. Anyone tracing the locations should keep the distinction in mind: Hallstatt is the town the script is set in, while Prague and Hungary are the filming locations that production sources list.
