John Wick Cast and Crew: Who Stars and Directs

The main John Wick cast members are Keanu Reeves as John Wick, Ian McShane as Winston and Lance Reddick as Charon, with a fresh set of antagonists and allies joining each chapter. The table lists the key actors, the characters they play and the films they appear in.

The first film, john wick 2014, reached US theaters on October 24, 2014, and it builds its world around a small ensemble. Reeves is joined by Michael Nyqvist as the crime boss viggo tarasov john wick and Alfie Allen as his son Iosef, whose theft of a classic car and killing of a puppy set everything in motion. Willem Dafoe is billed as Marcus. Dean Winters (Avi), Adrianne Palicki (Ms. Perkins) and Bridget Moynahan (Helen) fill out the billing, with Ian McShane as Winston and Lance Reddick credited as Hotel Manager and Charon.

The sequel, john wick 2, widens the circle. Riccardo Scamarcio plays santino d'antonio john wick, Common plays Cassian, Ruby Rose plays Ares and Laurence Fishburne arrives as the bowery king john wick. Peter Stormare appears as Abram Tarasov and Franco Nero as Julius.

In john wick 3, titled John Wick: Chapter 3: Parabellum, Halle Berry joins as sofia al azwar john wick, with Mark Dacascos as Zero, Asia Kate Dillon as the Adjudicator and Anjelica Huston as the Director. Saïd Taghmaoui plays the Elder.

Then john wick 4 brings in another new wave. Donnie Yen plays caine john wick, Bill Skarsgård plays the marquis de gramont john wick, and Hiroyuki Sanada, Rina Sawayama, Scott Adkins, Clancy Brown and Shamier Anderson take supporting roles.

Chad Stahelski directed all four main John Wick films, and Len Wiseman directed the spinoff Ballerina (2025).

Stahelski is credited as director of John Wick (2014), John Wick: Chapter 2, John Wick: Chapter 3: Parabellum and John Wick: Chapter 4. A September 2013 report, citing Deadline, described the first film as a directors' debut. He then stayed with the series as the budget grew from $20 million on the first film to $100 million on Chapter 4, according to Box Office Mojo. Stahelski is also a named producer on John Wick: Chapter 5, alongside Keanu Reeves, Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee, according to TheWrap.

Ballerina, directed by Len Wiseman, is the first feature length spinoff. It takes place during the events of Chapter 3, according to TheWrap, and carries a budget of $90 million.

The music has its own pulse, so the composers matter. Tyler Bates scored John Wick (2014), Chapter 3, Chapter 4 and Ballerina, while Joel J. Richard is the credited composer on Chapter 2. For songs and albums, see the john wick soundtrack page.

Behind the camera, cinematographer Dan Laustsen discussed Chapter 4 with TheWrap, including the overhead shot built in Germany and the night for day sequences filmed in Paris. Paris was a major location, with production at the Louvre and the Arc de Triomphe, according to Screen Daily. Chapter 2 shot in Rome after New York, drawn there partly by Italy's film incentives, according to Screen Global Production.

Thunder Road, with producer Basil Iwanyk, was attached to the first film, and Lionsgate is the studio behind the series. A June 2013 Screen Daily report named Reeves, Thunder Road, Lionsgate, Iwanyk and Stahelski together on that project.

Three actors appear in every film in the series: Keanu Reeves, Ian McShane and Lance Reddick, and, going by the credits, none of their roles has been recast. In my opinion, that continuity is a big part of why the Continental feels like a real place and not a set.

Reeves plays John Wick in all four main films and appears in Ballerina, where he is billed second behind Ana de Armas. McShane plays winston john wick, billed as Winston in most films and as Winston Scott in Chapter 2. Reddick plays charon john wick, credited as Hotel Manager and Charon in the first film, and Ballerina is his final appearance in the series, according to TheWrap.

The next tier of returning faces shows how the cast grows. Laurence Fishburne holds the Bowery King through Chapters 2, 3 and 4. Anjelica Huston plays the Director in Chapter 3 and returns in Ballerina. Bridget Moynahan plays Helen in the first film and again in Chapter 2, and John Leguizamo plays Aurelio in both.

The younger roles follow a different pattern. Unity Phelan played the Ballerina character in Chapter 3, according to Screen Daily, and Ballerina then gives Ana de Armas the lead as Eve, with Victoria Comte credited as Young Eve. It could be argued that this is the cleanest handoff in the franchise: a small role in one film that the spinoff builds into a full story.

New antagonists tend to arrive one per chapter, from Viggo Tarasov to Santino D'Antonio to the Adjudicator to the Marquis. To see where each of them lands in the story, check the john wick timeline.

Who is confirmed for Chapter 5? Only Reeves so far, according to TheWrap. Lionsgate announced at CinemaCon on April 1, 2025 that the film is in development with Reeves, Stahelski and Thunder Road, and no release date was given. Status and updates live on the john wick 5 page.
