John Wick Box Office Numbers: Gross and Budget for Every Film
The John Wick box office stands at more than $1 billion worldwide for the four main films, and about $1.18 billion once Ballerina is included, based on the Box Office Mojo figures for each title. Every main film grossed more than the one before it, and John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023), directed by Chad Stahelski, is the highest grossing entry at $447 million worldwide.
| Film | Budget | Domestic | International | Worldwide |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| John Wick (2014) | $20 million | $43 million | $43 million | $86 million |
| John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017) | $40 million | $92 million | $82 million | $174 million |
| John Wick: Chapter 3: Parabellum (2019) | $75 million | $171 million | $157 million | $328 million |
| John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023) | $100 million | $187 million | $260 million | $447 million |
| Ballerina (2025) | $90 million | $58 million | $82 million | $140 million |
The story starts small. John Wick (2014) cost $20 million according to Box Office Mojo and earned $86 million worldwide, split almost evenly between the US and the rest of the world. The Numbers lists the same film with a $30 million budget, so you will see both figures online. Box Office Mojo shows the film opening in the US on October 24, 2014, and reaching the UK only in April 2015.
John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017) doubled the budget to $40 million and doubled the return to $174 million. Lionsgate handled domestic distribution, and the US take of $92 million was the first time a John Wick film earned clearly more at home ($92 million) than abroad ($82 million). The production moved to Rome after the New York work, with Italy offering film incentives, according to Screen Global Production.
John Wick: Chapter 3: Parabellum (2019) cost $75 million and grossed $328 million worldwide, with $171 million of it domestic. It reached US and UK screens on May 17, 2019, a date Lionsgate had announced back in September 2017.
The biggest jump is John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023), released March 24, 2023 at a runtime of 170 minutes. Its $260 million international gross is larger than the entire worldwide total of John Wick: Chapter 2, and its $187 million domestic gross is the franchise best.
The spinoff sits apart. Ballerina (2025) was directed by Len Wiseman, opened June 6, 2025, and earned $140 million worldwide on a $90 million budget. Is the John Wick Franchise Successful at the Box Office?
In my opinion, yes: the four main films returned between about 4.3 and 4.5 times their budgets, which is a remarkably steady record for an action series. Dividing worldwide gross by budget gives roughly 4.3 for John Wick (2014), 4.4 for John Wick: Chapter 2, 4.4 for John Wick: Chapter 3: Parabellum and 4.5 for John Wick: Chapter 4. Those are my own calculations from the Box Office Mojo figures, and they show a series that grew its budget fivefold, from $20 million to $100 million, without the return per dollar ever slipping.
Did John Wick: Chapter 4 flop? It did not, by any reading of the numbers. It cost the most of the main films and also earned the most, at $447 million worldwide on $100 million. It could be argued that the film proves the franchise's model, because the production leaned on big location work, such as the Paris shoot at the Louvre and the Arc de Triomphe and an overhead shot built in Germany, and it still out-grossed Chapter 3. That being said, a 170 minute runtime means fewer showings per day, which in my view makes the gross more impressive.
Is Ballerina a John Wick hit or flop? I would call it a modest result rather than a flop, and a clear step down from the main films. It earned about 1.6 times its $90 million budget, against 4.3 or better for every main entry. A $90 million budget, set against Chapter 3's $75 million and a gross well under half of Chapter 3's $328 million, is the weak spot. Its domestic figure of $58 million is the lowest in the series apart from the 2014 original. Perhaps part of the gap is that Ballerina asked a new lead, Ana de Armas as Eve, to carry a spinoff, with Keanu Reeves in a supporting role, though that is my reading and not something the figures prove.
What about Keanu Reeves's pay? Lionsgate has not published what Reeves earned from the films, and Box Office Mojo and The Numbers do not report star salaries, so any figure you see quoted is an estimate. What is on the record is that Reeves, Stahelski and Thunder Road are all attached to John Wick: Chapter 5, which Lionsgate announced as in development at CinemaCon on April 1, 2025. No release date has been set, so the box office story is still open. For the status, head to John Wick: Chapter 5, and for how these films compare beyond the grosses, see John Wick movies ranked.
