Frozen Soundtrack: Composers, Songs and Tracklist

The Frozen soundtrack is scored mainly by Christophe Beck, who composed the music for Frozen (2013), Frozen II (2019), Frozen Fever and Olaf's Frozen Adventure, while its best known songs, led by the Oscar winning "Let It Go", come from Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez. Only the short Once Upon a Snowman has a different composer, Jeff Morrow. If you are building a playlist for the car or settling a family argument about who sang what, the songs are easiest to follow in release order, starting with Frozen (2013).

Who Composed the Frozen Soundtrack?

Christophe Beck scored both main Frozen films, Frozen (2013), directed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, and Frozen II (2019), and he also scored the shorts Frozen Fever (2015) and Olaf's Frozen Adventure (2017). The one exception is Once Upon a Snowman (2020), a seven minute Disney+ short scored by Jeff Morrow. The Academy's look back at the 2014 Oscar night credits Beck's score alongside the two statues the film won, Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song.

Frozen (2013) has two albums, both on Walt Disney Records. The soundtrack "Frozen" came out on November 25, 2013 with 59 tracks, and it gathers the songs, from "Do You Want to Build a Snowman?" to "Love Is an Open Door". A separate score album, also called "Frozen", followed in 2014 with 22 tracks. Its track list opens with the cue Vuelie, and the orchestral side of the film also includes the cues Winter’s Waltz and Wolves. If you want the score rather than the sing-alongs, that second album is the one to search for.

Frozen II has a single album, the soundtrack "Frozen II", released by Walt Disney Records on November 15, 2019 with 46 tracks. Its titles include "All Is Found", "Into the Unknown", "Lost in the Woods", "Show Yourself" and "The Next Right Thing", and it also carries outside takes such as "Into the Unknown (Panic! at the Disco version)" and "All Is Found (Kacey Musgraves version)". Beck's score for the sequel is part of that release.

The score and the songs are separate jobs. Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez wrote the songs for Frozen (2013) and the original song for Frozen Fever. Elyssa Samsel and Kate Anderson wrote the four songs for Olaf's Frozen Adventure. Frozen II arrived with seven new songs, according to Slashfilm's set visit report.

Who sings the leads? Idina Menzel voices Elsa, Kristen Bell voices Anna, Jonathan Groff voices Kristoff and Josh Gad voices Olaf. The full ensemble is on the frozen cast page, and the characters are on frozen characters, including elsa frozen and anna frozen.

Frozen Soundtrack Songs in OrderSpoilers

The signature Frozen songs run from "Eatnemen Vuelie" and "Let It Go" in the first film to "Into the Unknown" and "Show Yourself" in the sequel. Most of them were written for the films, and the best known are sung by Idina Menzel and Kristen Bell.

Frozen (2013), see frozen 2013

"Eatnemen Vuelie" by Frode Fjellheim plays at the very start of the film as the opening piece. After it, the songs written for the film arrive one after another. "Frozen Heart" is performed by the cast, and "Do You Want to Build a Snowman?" is sung by Kristen Bell, Agatha Lee Monn and Katie Lopez. "For the First Time in Forever" is sung by Bell and Idina Menzel, and it returns as "For the First Time in Forever (Reprise)" with the same two singers. "Love Is an Open Door" pairs Bell with Santino Fontana, "In Summer" belongs to Josh Gad, and "Reindeer(s) Are Better Than People" belongs to Jonathan Groff. "Fixer Upper" is performed by Maia Wilson and the cast.

"Let It Go", sung by Idina Menzel, was written for the film by Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez and won the Oscar for Best Original Song. Demi Lovato sings the end credits version, which plays over the credits.

Frozen II (2019), see frozen 2

"Into the Unknown" is the song that calls Elsa toward the Enchanted Forest, with a mysterious voice sung by AURORA answering Idina Menzel. "Show Yourself", sung by Menzel and Evan Rachel Wood, plays when Elsa enters Ahtohallan and learns the secrets she has been seeking. The other songs written for the film are "All Is Found" (Wood), "Some Things Never Change" (Bell, Menzel, Gad and Groff), "Lost in the Woods" (Groff), "The Next Right Thing" (Bell) and "When I Am Older" (Gad). Groff also sings "Reindeer(s) Are Better Than People (Continued)".

The end credits carry three cover versions: "Into the Unknown" by Panic! at the Disco, "All Is Found" by Kacey Musgraves and "Lost in the Woods" by Weezer.

Does Olaf sing any songs?

Yes. Josh Gad sings "In Summer" in the first film and "When I Am Older" in Frozen II.

Our picks: the best songs in the Frozen films (opinion)

  • "Let It Go": in my opinion, it earns its Oscar because it turns Elsa's isolation into a single, huge moment.
  • "For the First Time in Forever": it sets Anna and Elsa up as opposites, and the Reprise sharpens the gap between them.
  • "Do You Want to Build a Snowman?": it shows a whole childhood drifting apart in one song.
  • "Into the Unknown": it makes the sequel's mystery feel like a pull, helped by AURORA's voice.
  • "Show Yourself": it is the sequel's emotional payoff, with Menzel and Wood sharing the spotlight.
  • "Lost in the Woods": perhaps the funniest and most affectionate number for Kristoff.
  • "When I Am Older": a small, funny moment for Olaf that gives Gad the sequel's lightest song.

The next chapter is already on the calendar: Frozen III is set for a US release on November 24, 2027, according to TheWrap. Its date and status are on the frozen 3 page, and the order to hear everything in is on frozen movies in order.
