How Many Frozen Movies Came Out So Far?
Two Frozen feature films have come out so far, Frozen (2013) and Frozen II (2019), and three shorts sit between and after them, which makes five releases in total. If you are settling a family debate about the count, the split between features and shorts is usually where the disagreement starts, so the table lays out every release in order.

Frozen (2013), directed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, is where the story starts. Elsa is born with ice powers, an accident with her sister Anna changes how the royal family lives, and the sisters grow up apart behind closed castle gates. The film was made on a $150 million budget and earned $1.31 billion worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo. It also won two Oscars, for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song, and it opens with Eatnemen Vuelie by Frode Fjellheim.
Frozen II (2019), again directed by Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck, is set some years after Elsa became queen. A strange singing voice calls to her, the elemental spirits wake, Arendelle has to be evacuated, and the group heads north to the Enchanted Forest. It carries seven new songs, among them Into the Unknown and Show Yourself, and Walt Disney Animation Studios released a Northern Sámi version made with the Sámi Parliamentary Council and the Saami Council. Box Office Mojo lists $1.45 billion worldwide on the same $150 million budget, roughly $143 million more than the first film.
Why Are the Shorts Counted Separately?
The three shorts are companion pieces rather than full films, and that is why the feature count stays at two. Each runs between 7 and 22 minutes, and each leans on the characters you already know instead of opening a new chapter of the main story. That being said, they are real releases with their own directors, so a count of everything that played on a screen reaches five.
Frozen Fever (2015), directed by Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck, played before Disney's live action Cinderella on March 13, 2015. It is Anna's birthday, Elsa wants to throw the best party of her life, and she is quietly trying to hide a cold. Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez wrote its original song, Making Today a Perfect Day.
Olaf's Frozen Adventure (2017), directed by Stevie Wermers-Skelton and Kevin Deters, ran in front of Pixar's Coco and brought four new songs. Olaf sets off across the kingdom with Sven and Kristoff's sleigh to collect holiday traditions for Anna and Elsa. The short was originally made for television, and it was pulled from Coco from December 8, 2017 as a limited run before airing on ABC on December 14, 2017.
Once Upon a Snowman (2020), directed by Dan Abraham and Trent Correy, arrived on Disney+ on October 23, 2020 with a score by Jeff Morrow. It follows Olaf right after Elsa builds her ice palace and brings him to life, as he takes his first steps and wonders who he is. Josh Gad voices Olaf in all five releases. Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel voice Anna and Elsa in the first four, while in Once Upon a Snowman their credits are archive sound only.
What Is the Next Frozen Movie?
The next Disney Frozen movie is Frozen III, which D23 lists for November 24, 2027, and TheWrap describes as a Thanksgiving window release. D23 showed first footage at its showcase in August 2026. Jennifer Lee and Trent Correy are confirmed as directors, Christina Chen as producer, and Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel and Josh Gad as the voices of Anna, Elsa and Olaf. Everything else is on the Frozen 3 page, and the Frozen 3 trailer page tracks any footage.
One item remains a report, not a confirmation. TheWrap reported in November 2025 that Bell, Menzel and Gad signed deals worth more than $60 million each covering Frozen III and a fourth film, and Disney declined to comment.
How Do the Frozen Movies Fit Together?
The two features are the spine of the saga, and the shorts slot in after the film they follow. Frozen Fever and Olaf's Frozen Adventure come after the first film, and Once Upon a Snowman rewinds to Olaf's first moments. Our guide to Frozen movies in order sets out the release order and the chronological order, and the Frozen timeline follows the story beat by beat.
