What Is Jurassic World Rebirth About?

Jurassic World Rebirth is a covert creature expedition set five years after Jurassic World Dominion, in a world where the revived dinosaurs have become unwelcome almost everywhere. Most of Earth is now too hostile for them, and they survive mainly in zones near the equator. The film was directed by Gareth Edwards from a script by David Koepp, with Michael Crichton also credited as a writer, and it sits seventh in the Jurassic Park movies in order.

Pharmaceutical executive Martin Krebs (Rupert Friend) hires Zora Bennett (Scarlett Johansson), a former covert operative, to lead a secret mission. She assembles a team that includes boat captain Duncan Kincaid (Mahershala Ali) and paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis (Jonathan Bailey). Their goal is to take genetic material from three giant animals, one each from the sea, land and air, to develop a heart disease treatment.

The full plot follows the expedition from a secret briefing to a boat escape from the former InGen research site, Ile Saint-Hubert, and it ends with the corporate backer dead and the samples shared openly.

Martin Krebs hires Zora Bennett to collect biological samples from three huge animals, which could lead to a heart disease treatment. Zora recruits Henry Loomis and Duncan Kincaid, among others. The team takes a sample from a Mosasaurus, and the mercenary Bobby Atwater (Ed Skrein) is killed in the attack.

Nearby, a family called the Delgados is shipwrecked. When Teresa falls overboard, Martin does nothing to save her, because he wants to keep the mission quiet. Zora's team rescues the family anyway.

On the island the group gets a sample from a Titanosaurus and an egg from a Quetzalcoatlus nest. Team member Nina (Philippine Velge) dies later on the island. Both groups then meet again at the old InGen complex, where a mutated predator called the Distortus rex lives.

Martin grabs the samples and runs, and the Distortus rex kills him. The same creature destroys the rescue helicopter, so the survivors flee by boat. Duncan distracts the Distortus rex with a flare so the others can get away, and a later shot shows he survived and is rescued. Zora and Henry decide to share the biomaterial openly so that everyone can benefit from it.

Jurassic World Rebirth had its world premiere on June 17, 2025 at the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square in London, and it reached US theaters on July 2, 2025, about two weeks later.

Jurassic World Rebirth Ending ExplainedSpoilers

The ending of Jurassic World Rebirth says that Duncan Kincaid survives, Martin Krebs does not, and the samples end up open to everyone rather than owned by a company.

Duncan seems to sacrifice himself by drawing the Distortus rex away with a flare, but a later shot shows another flare in the sky, which means he is alive and gets rescued. Martin is dead, and the creature is left alive on the island. Zora and Henry choose to make the biomaterial open source instead of letting a company own it.

Was Duncan always meant to live? Not according to Edwards. Trade coverage reported by JoBlo says Duncan was always meant to die, and the studio asked for alternate footage in which he survives, which tested better. In my opinion, the flare shot reads like an added piece: the sacrifice scene plays as a full goodbye, and the rescue is a single quick image that restores him afterward.

The open source decision is the more interesting choice, and perhaps the one that pays off the premise best. Martin, the pharmaceutical executive, treats the mission as a private job and lets Teresa fall overboard rather than risk exposure. Zora and Henry end by doing the opposite with the same material. It also gives the film an answer to the question the franchise has asked since Hammond's park: who is allowed to own this science?

What about a sequel? The survival of Duncan and the lead trio is reported to leave room for one. It could be argued that leaving the Distortus rex alive on the island does the same job for the monster side of the story.

Where Was Jurassic World Rebirth Filmed?

Jurassic World Rebirth was filmed mainly in Thailand, Malta and England, with pickup shots in New York City. Principal photography began on June 13, 2024 in Thailand under the working title Saga, and wrapped on September 27, 2024.

In Thailand the jungle, coast and river scenes were shot at Khao Phanom Bencha National Park, Ko Kradan, Ao Phang Nga National Park and a field in Thab Prik. In Malta, Malta Film Studios in Kalkara housed the water tank work for the boat and Mosasaurus sequences, and the Mediterranean Sea was used as well.

In England, Sky Studios Elstree held the sets for the InGen facility. Other English locations include London, the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich for a museum scene, and the Lee Valley White Water Centre for part of the T. rex river chase.

As for the fictional setting, the story places the expedition on Ile Saint-Hubert, a restricted island that once housed InGen's research.
