How Many Jurassic Park Movies Are There in Total?

Seven theatrical movies make up the franchise, and every one of them belongs to the main saga, so the count is seven films plus no spin-offs. Three carry the Jurassic Park name, three carry the Jurassic World name, and the newest is Jurassic World Rebirth. If you want the viewing plan, the jurassic park movies in order guide sets out the sequence, and the Jurassic Park movies hub has the wider overview.

The Jurassic Park Films (1993 to 2001)

The original trilogy runs from 1993 to 2001 and covers two islands. Jurassic Park (1993), directed by Steven Spielberg, runs 127 minutes and follows Alan Grant, Ellie Sattler and Ian Malcolm on a tour of John Hammond's park. According to Box Office Mojo it grossed more than $1.1 billion worldwide on a $63 million budget, and John Williams wrote the score.

The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997), also directed by Spielberg, moves to Isla Sorna, where Malcolm joins a team after learning that his girlfriend Sarah Harding is already there. Jurassic Park III (2001), directed by Joe Johnston, is the shortest film in the series at 92 minutes, with a score by Don Davis. It sends Grant back to Isla Sorna with a couple searching for their missing son, and Spielberg stayed on as an executive producer.

The Jurassic World Films (2015 to 2025)

The second era opens with Jurassic World (2015), directed by Colin Trevorrow, in which a full theme park is operating on Isla Nublar and a hybrid called the Indominus rex is the new attraction. Box Office Mojo and The Numbers both put its worldwide total at about $1.67 billion, the largest in the series. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018), directed by J. A. Bayona, shifts the story to a volcano threatening the island dinosaurs and a search for Blue.

Jurassic World Dominion (2022), again directed by Trevorrow, is the longest entry at 147 minutes and puts dinosaurs across the whole world. Jurassic World Rebirth (2025), directed by Gareth Edwards with a score by Alexandre Desplat, begins five years after Dominion and follows Zora Bennett on a secret expedition to a restricted island. It earned $869 million worldwide according to Box Office Mojo, and the jurassic park box office page compares every total.

Are All the Jurassic Park Movies Connected?

Yes, the seven films share one continuity, and the release order is also the chronological order. Hammond returns in The Lost World, Grant returns in Jurassic Park III, and BD Wong appears as the geneticist Henry Wu in Jurassic Park (1993), Jurassic World (2015), Fallen Kingdom and Dominion. Dominion then reunites Laura Dern, Sam Neill and Jeff Goldblum with Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, who play Owen Grady and Claire Dearing. Fallen Kingdom and Dominion also tie together through Maisie Lockwood. Rebirth takes a new cast but stays in the same world, and the full story order is on the jurassic park timeline page.

The ratings show a small pattern that tracks the shift in tone. All seven films carry PG-13 in the US, but Australia rates the first two PG and every film from Jurassic Park III onward M, while the UK moves from PG to 12A starting with Jurassic World (2015). It could be argued that this split marks where the saga became more intense, though it says nothing about which film actually scares people most.

What Is the Jurassic World: Chaos Theory TV Series?

Jurassic World: Chaos Theory is an animated Netflix series, made by DreamWorks Animation with Amblin Entertainment and Universal. It is a direct sequel to Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous and follows the Nublar Six six years later as they uncover a conspiracy. Season 1 premiered on May 24, 2024, season 2 on October 17, 2024, season 3 on April 3, 2025 and the final season on November 20, 2025, for 39 episodes in total. Darius Bowman, voiced by Paul-Mikél Williams, leads an ensemble that also includes Sean Giambrone, Darren Barnet and Raini Rodriguez. TMDB lists the series as ended, and the season 4 announcement called it the final one.

Will There Be Another Jurassic World Movie?

A follow up to Rebirth is in development, but it has no announced title, release date or start of filming. TheWrap reported on August 6, 2026 that Gareth Edwards will not return to direct over creative differences, that David Koepp has already written a script, and that Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali and Jonathan Bailey are expected back. On October 2, 2026, TheWrap also reported that J. A. Bayona is the frontrunner to direct, and Universal declined to comment, so that remains a rumor.
