Jurassic Park Box Office: Which Film Made the Most Money?

Jurassic World (2015), directed by Colin Trevorrow, made the most money in the series, with more than $1.67 billion worldwide according to Box Office Mojo. Jurassic Park (1993), directed by Steven Spielberg, sits third on $1.10 billion, behind Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018) at $1.31 billion. Together the seven main films have grossed about $6.94 billion worldwide on combined budgets of about $1.24 billion. Box Office Mojo supplies the grosses and every budget except Jurassic World Rebirth, whose $225 million budget comes from The Numbers.

Jurassic World Dominion2022$465 million$377 million$625 million$1.00 billion
Jurassic World Rebirth2025$225 million$340 million$530 million$869 million

These grosses are raw totals, not adjusted for inflation, so the 1993 film is being compared with later releases on its original ticket sales. Ranked by worldwide gross, the order is Jurassic World (2015), Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Jurassic Park (1993), Jurassic World Dominion, Jurassic World Rebirth, The Lost World: Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park III.

Four films have passed $1 billion: Jurassic Park (1993), Jurassic World (2015), Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and Jurassic World Dominion, which cleared the mark by the narrowest of margins. Jurassic World Rebirth (2025), directed by Gareth Edwards, finished on $869 million, and The Numbers shows slightly higher later totals for it than Box Office Mojo does. The two trackers also differ a little on Jurassic World (2015): The Numbers lists about $1.67 billion worldwide too, but it gives a different budget from the one at Box Office Mojo. The figures here use the Box Office Mojo budget.

The weakest earners are the middle and end of the first trilogy. The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997), directed by Spielberg, took $619 million, and Jurassic Park III (2001), directed by Joe Johnston, took $369 million on a $93 million budget. Was Jurassic Park a Hit or Flop? Budgets Against Grosses

Every main film made more than it cost to produce, but the margins differ enormously, and the budget column tells a different story from the gross column. Jurassic Park (1993) turned a $63 million budget into $1.10 billion, about 17 times its cost. Jurassic World (2015) returned roughly 11 times its $150 million budget, and The Lost World: Jurassic Park and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom landed between 7 and 9 times. In my opinion, the 1993 film is still the best value in the series, because no later entry came close to that ratio.

The franchise dipped in the early 2000s and then rebuilt. Jurassic Park III earned almost exactly four times its budget, the lowest return of the first trilogy, on a $93 million budget that was up from the $73 million of The Lost World: Jurassic Park. The 2015 reboot grossed more than four times that weakest result, and it posted the biggest domestic number in the series at $653 million. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom kept the overseas crowd (its $891 million international gross is the second best in the series) but gave back about $236 million of the domestic haul.

Jurassic World Dominion is the awkward case. It brought back Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum beside Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, and it finished at $1.00 billion worldwide. Against a $465 million budget, that is about 2.2 times cost, the thinnest return of the seven films. It could be argued that passing $1 billion says little about success when the budget is this large.

Was Jurassic World Rebirth a flop or a hit? It made $869 million worldwide on a $225 million budget, so it earned nearly four times its cost, with a fresh cast led by Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali and Jonathan Bailey. It did not reach $1 billion, so next to the three films before it, I would call it a smaller hit rather than a flop. Its budget was less than half of Dominion's, and that matters more than the headline gross.

What comes next? Universal has not announced a release date for another film, and the follow up to Rebirth is still in development, with TheWrap reporting that Edwards will not direct it. The latest status is on the next Jurassic World movie page, and the creative case for each film sits in Jurassic Park movies ranked.
