Jurassic Park Cast: Every Actor and Director Across the Films

The Jurassic Park cast began with Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum and Richard Attenborough in Jurassic Park (1993), directed by Steven Spielberg, and the franchise now spans seven films made by five directors. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard led the Jurassic World trilogy, and Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali and Jonathan Bailey lead Jurassic World Rebirth (2025), directed by Gareth Edwards. The leads and directors of every film, along with the performers who crossed between eras, make up the rest of the picture.

Jurassic Park Cast: Who Starred in Each Film

The Jurassic Park cast was led by Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum and Richard Attenborough in 1993, and it has changed with each era of the saga since. Jurassic Park (1993) starred Neill as Grant, Dern as Ellie, Goldblum as Malcolm and Attenborough as Hammond, billed one to four in that order. Behind them came Bob Peck as Muldoon, Martin Ferrero as Gennaro and BD Wong as Wu. The two children, Tim and Lex, were played by Joseph Mazzello and Ariana Richards, while Samuel L. Jackson appeared as Arnold and Wayne Knight as Nedry. The people they played are profiled on the Jurassic Park characters page, including Alan Grant, Ellie Sattler and Ian Malcolm.

The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997) moved Jeff Goldblum to the top of the billing as Ian Malcolm, with Julianne Moore as Sarah Harding, Pete Postlethwaite as Roland Tembo and Arliss Howard as Peter Ludlow. Vince Vaughn played Nick Van Owen, Vanessa Lee Chester played Kelly Curtis, and Peter Stormare played Dieter Stark. Richard Attenborough returned as John Hammond, and Joseph Mazzello and Ariana Richards came back as Tim and Lex. Jurassic Park III (2001) put Sam Neill first again as Dr. Alan Grant, alongside William H. Macy and Téa Leoni as Paul and Amanda Kirby, Alessandro Nivola as Billy Brennan and Trevor Morgan as Eric Kirby. Laura Dern returned as Ellie, billed ninth.

The Jurassic World films brought in a new lead pair. Jurassic World 2015 starred Chris Pratt as Owen and Bryce Dallas Howard as Claire, with Irrfan Khan as Masrani, Vincent D'Onofrio as Hoskins, and Ty Simpkins and Nick Robinson as the brothers Gray and Zach. Jake Johnson played Lowery, Omar Sy played Barry and BD Wong returned as Dr. Henry Wu. Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom (2018) kept Pratt and Howard as Owen Grady and Claire Dearing and added Rafe Spall as Eli Mills, Justice Smith as Franklin Webb, Daniella Pineda as Zia Rodriguez, James Cromwell as Benjamin Lockwood and Ted Levine as Ken Wheatley. Jeff Goldblum and BD Wong also appear, and Isabella Sermon plays Maisie Lockwood.

Jurassic World Dominion (2022) billed Pratt and Howard first and second, then Laura Dern, Sam Neill and Jeff Goldblum in third to fifth place. DeWanda Wise played Kayla Watts, Mamoudou Athie played Ramsay Cole, and Campbell Scott played Lewis Dodgson. Jurassic World Rebirth (2025) starts a fresh ensemble: Scarlett Johansson as Zora Bennett, Mahershala Ali as Duncan Kincaid, Jonathan Bailey as Dr. Henry Loomis and Rupert Friend as Martin Krebs. Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Luna Blaise, David Iacono and Audrina Miranda play the Delgado family and Xavier Dobbs.

Directors and Crew: Who Made the Jurassic Park Films

Five directors have made the seven main films: Steven Spielberg, Joe Johnston, Colin Trevorrow, J. A. Bayona and Gareth Edwards. Spielberg directed Jurassic Park (1993) and The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997). Johnston took over for Jurassic Park III (2001), with Spielberg credited as executive producer, according to Yahoo News. Trevorrow directed Jurassic World (2015) and returned for Jurassic World Dominion (2022). Bayona directed Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018), and Edwards directed Jurassic World Rebirth (2025).

The scores follow a similar pattern of handovers. John Williams composed the first two films, Don Davis scored the third, Michael Giacchino scored the Jurassic World trilogy, and Alexandre Desplat composed Rebirth. The Jurassic Park soundtrack guide goes through each score in more detail.

A few production details help place the crews. Jurassic Park (1993) premiered at the Uptown Theater, and its final days of filming in Hawaii were disrupted by Hurricane Iniki on September 11, 1992, with storm footage used in the film. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom premiered at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, and Jurassic World Rebirth premiered on June 17, 2025 at Odeon Luxe Leicester Square in London. For release dates and where each film sits in the saga, see Jurassic Park movies in order and the Jurassic Park movies hub.

The next film has already had a director change in the press. TheWrap reported on August 6, 2026 that Gareth Edwards will not direct the follow up to Rebirth, reportedly over creative differences, and that David Koepp has written the script. On October 2, 2026 TheWrap reported that J. A. Bayona is the frontrunner to direct. That is a report only: Universal declined to comment and has confirmed no director. Further reporting on the next film is collected on the next Jurassic World movie page.

Returning and Recast: Who Came Back, Who Is New?

Several performers have crossed between eras of the saga, and in my opinion the franchise leans heavily on that continuity. Jeff Goldblum is the clearest case: he played Ian Malcolm in Jurassic Park (1993), headlined The Lost World: Jurassic Park, appeared in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and returned for Jurassic World Dominion, so four of the seven films carry his name. BD Wong did something similar as Henry Wu, appearing in the 1993 film, Jurassic World, Fallen Kingdom and Dominion. He is not among the top fifteen billed in Jurassic World Rebirth, so his run stops there.

The original trio had a narrower path. Sam Neill played Alan Grant in 1993, Jurassic Park III and Dominion, and Laura Dern played Ellie Sattler in the same three, although she was billed ninth in the third film. Dominion is where those two met Goldblum again on screen, billed third to fifth behind Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. It could be argued that this was the trilogy's way of handing the keys across, because the film credits both generations side by side. Richard Attenborough, Joseph Mazzello and Ariana Richards appear in the first two films only.

Within the Jurassic World era, Pratt and Howard star in all three Jurassic World films as Owen Grady and Claire Dearing. Omar Sy appears in Jurassic World and Dominion, while Isabella Sermon, Justice Smith and Daniella Pineda appear in both Fallen Kingdom and Dominion. No role changes hands between actors in the credits for these films, so recasting is not really a feature of the saga. Rebirth is a clean break instead: Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali and Jonathan Bailey lead a new team that travels to a restricted island that once housed InGen's research, with none of the earlier leads in the top billing.

For the next film, TheWrap reported on August 6, 2026 that Johansson, Ali and Bailey are expected to return. These are reports, not confirmations, and no characters have been named.
