Next Jurassic World Movie: Status, Cast and Release Date
The next Jurassic World movie, the sequel to Jurassic World Rebirth (2025), is in development at Universal with no title, release date or start of filming announced. Director Gareth Edwards is reported to be out, J. A. Bayona is reported as the frontrunner to replace him, and a script by David Koepp is reported to be written.
Is There a Next Jurassic World Movie?
A sequel to Jurassic World Rebirth (2025) is in development at Universal, but no title, release date or start of filming has been announced, so the next Jurassic World movie is not yet a scheduled release. Fans searching for Jurassic World 5 are following a film that exists in trade reports, not on a production calendar.
The story so far comes mostly from TheWrap. On August 6, 2026, it reported that Gareth Edwards, who directed Jurassic World Rebirth, will not direct the follow up, reportedly because of creative differences. Universal's statement only praised the experience of working with him. The same report said David Koepp has already written a script for the next film and that a search for a new director was underway.
On October 2, 2026, TheWrap reported that J. A. Bayona is the frontrunner to take over. Universal declined to comment, so that is a report and not an announcement. Newsweek adds that Universal has not officially greenlit a sequel. Until the studio speaks, the honest status is "in development".
If it goes ahead, the film would be the eighth main entry in the saga, after the three Jurassic Park films, the three Jurassic World films and Jurassic World Rebirth. You can see where it would sit in the Jurassic Park movies in order guide, and the full list of released films is on the Jurassic Park movies hub.
Who Is in the Cast of Jurassic World 5?
No cast member has been officially confirmed for the next Jurassic World movie, and no character names have been announced. TheWrap reported on August 6, 2026 that Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali and Jonathan Bailey are expected to return from Rebirth, where they played Zora Bennett, Duncan Kincaid and Dr. Henry Loomis. All three are reported, not confirmed.
David Koepp is the only crew member attached in reports, as the writer of the script that was reportedly finished before Edwards left. The director chair is open, with J. A. Bayona the reported frontrunner. Bayona directed Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018), so he would be returning to the saga and not arriving new.
Why is Chris Pratt not in Jurassic World Rebirth? Rebirth is set five years after Jurassic World Dominion and follows a new lead group headed by Johansson, and Pratt's Owen Grady and Bryce Dallas Howard's Claire Dearing are not among its top billed cast. The reports on the sequel do not say whether either returns, and none gives a reason for their absence. For the full credits, see the Jurassic Park cast guide.

Jurassic World Rebirth Sequel Rumors
The main rumor about the Jurassic World Rebirth sequel is that J. A. Bayona will direct it, and it remains a rumor because Universal declined to comment when TheWrap reported it on October 2, 2026. Its status is reported, not confirmed.
The Edwards exit sits one step above a rumor, since TheWrap reported it on August 6 and Universal's statement only praised the experience of working with him. The reported reason, creative differences, is the outlet's account and not a studio statement. Likewise, the return of Johansson, Ali and Bailey is what TheWrap reports as expected.
Other claims circulate online, including a specific June 2028 date and a title, but they come from outlets outside trade papers and major news, and neither has been verified. Treat any title or date you see as unconfirmed until Universal or a trade paper such as Variety, The Hollywood Reporter or Deadline reports it.

What We Know About the Next Jurassic World Movie, Explained
What we actually know is short: a sequel is in development, a Koepp script reportedly exists, the Rebirth trio is expected back, and the director chair is open. In my opinion, that is a healthier position than it sounds, because the script is reportedly done before the director is chosen.
The business case looks reasonable to me. Rebirth grossed $869 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo, on a $225 million budget. That is the lowest gross of the four most recent films, but a long way ahead of the $369 million that Jurassic Park III made in 2001. It also cost far less than Jurassic World Dominion, which carried a $465 million budget and grossed about $1 billion. A cheaper film earning that much is the kind of ratio a studio tends to repeat, though that is my reading and not a statement from Universal.
Bayona is the interesting name. His Fallen Kingdom grossed about $1.31 billion on a $170 million budget. Perhaps the open question is not whether the film happens but whether Universal keeps the new ensemble or reaches back to the Owen and Claire era.
