In the first film, she and Grant are awed by the first living dinosaurs they see, while Malcolm warns that a park built on controlling nature is bound to fail. The group learns the animals were bred all female, yet signs of breeding keep turning up. Then programmer Dennis Nedry shuts down the security systems to cover his theft of embryos, and the power failure disables the electric fences just as the tour vehicles sit stopped in the Tyrannosaurus paddock. While Grant looks after the two children overnight, Sattler and the game warden try to restore power, and the raptors kill the warden. The survivors are cornered in the visitor center until a Tyrannosaurus rex wanders in and attacks the raptors, giving everyone time to escape by helicopter.
In Jurassic Park III (2001), directed by Joe Johnston, Dern is credited as Ellie and billed ninth. The plot centers on Grant, Paul and Amanda Kirby, and Billy as they search Isla Sorna for the Kirbys' son Eric, so her part is small next to the leads.
Jurassic World Dominion (2022), directed by Colin Trevorrow, gives her the biggest return. Best Moments for Ellie Sattler
In my opinion, Ellie Sattler's best moments come from the original film and from Jurassic World Dominion, because those are the two stories that let her do real scientific work.
The first is her reaction in Jurassic Park (1993) when the group sees the living dinosaurs for the first time. It could be argued that this scene is the franchise's founding promise, and Sattler and Grant carry it between them while Malcolm stays doubtful. The second is the Nedry blackout, when she goes out with the game warden to restore power while the fences are down. It is the film's clearest case of a scientist doing practical, dangerous work under pressure (the warden does not survive it), and that is why I would pick it.
The third is the Dominion reconciliation with Grant. Perhaps the film overloads itself with threads, but her locust investigation gives the legacy cast a reason to be there beyond nostalgia, which is more than Jurassic Park III managed for her.
