Avengers Assemble Secret Wars: The Series and Movie Explained

Avengers Assemble Secret Wars is the fourth season of the animated Avengers Assemble series, which premiered on June 17, 2017. Disney identifies the season as Marvel's Avengers: Secret Wars in its content list and describes it as the fourth year of the series. The same list numbers the season's episodes from 79 through 104, a total of 26 episodes. Those details give the animated production a season number and premiere date that distinguish it from the separate Avengers: Secret Wars movie.

Disney also lists six Marvel's Avengers: Secret Wars animated shorts separately from the numbered episodes. Disney XD scheduled those introductory character shorts before the opening two episodes, with daily television dates from June 2 through June 7, 2017. All six were also available on the Disney XD App on June 2. The separate entry matters when comparing an episode guide with a list that includes the shorts, because the 26 episode total refers to the numbered season.

The shared Secret Wars wording can lead readers to either production, so the format and date provide useful context. For wider franchise coverage, visit the Avengers page.

Secret Wars identifies both the fourth animated season of Avengers Assemble and a separate movie scheduled for 2027. Disney's content list calls the animated season Marvel's Avengers: Secret Wars, while the movie is titled Avengers: Secret Wars. The animated season premiered on June 17, 2017, and Disney+ lists the movie for a theatrical release in December 2027. Variety reported the movie's scheduled date as December 17, 2027.

The two productions also have different kinds of listings. Disney numbers 26 episodes for the animated season and identifies six animated shorts separately, while the movie has an announced directing and writing team. Disney named Anthony Russo and Joe Russo as directors in 2024, and Variety reported Stephen McFeely as the writer. The movie appears in Phase Six of the Multiverse Saga on Disney+, a label that applies to its theatrical listing rather than to the animated season's episode count.

A shared title alone does not establish shared continuity or confirm that the movie follows the animated plot. Check the format and release date when a listing uses the shorter Secret Wars name.

In the second episode of Avengers Assemble season four, Black Panther must assemble a new team of Avengers. Disney+ describes that task in its episode listing, providing a starting point for Marvel's Avengers: Secret Wars. The animated season premiered on June 17, 2017, and Disney identifies it as the fourth year of the series. Its content list numbers the season's episodes from 79 through 104.

Black Panther's task belongs to the animated episode and does not establish a plot for the separate Avengers: Secret Wars movie. The movie's announced creative team includes directors Anthony Russo and Joe Russo, with Stephen McFeely reported as its writer. Disney separately identifies six animated shorts, so those shorts have their own entry alongside the season's 26 numbered episodes. Disney XD scheduled the introductory character shorts before the opening two Avengers No More episodes, which were scheduled together on June 17.

The episode listing gives readers a specific way to identify the animated story without relying on the shared Secret Wars title. To find the Black Panther story, check the listing for the second episode of Avengers Assemble season four.

Disney XD scheduled six introductory character shorts before the opening two episodes of Marvel's Avengers: Secret Wars. Its announcement, published by Animation World Network, scheduled the shorts daily from June 2 through June 7, 2017, with all six available on the Disney XD App on June 2. The television schedule and app release therefore give different dates for the same group of introductory shorts. The season premiered on June 17, 2017.

Disney XD scheduled the two Avengers No More episodes together from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. EDT on June 17. The advertised hour was a broadcast slot containing both opening episodes. Disney's content list separately identifies the six animated shorts and numbers the season's 26 episodes from 79 through 104. Disney+ describes Black Panther's task of assembling a new Avengers team in the second episode of the season.

The release details distinguish the introductory material from the season's numbered episodes and show how the opening pair was scheduled. When checking the original rollout, place the shorts before the opening pair and keep them separate from the numbered episode count.

Avengers Assemble Secret Wars has 26 numbered episodes, according to Disney's content list. Disney identifies Marvel's Avengers: Secret Wars as the fourth year of the animated series and lists its episodes from 79 through 104. The season premiered on June 17, 2017, providing another way to identify the fourth season when comparing listings for Avengers Assemble.

Disney lists six Marvel's Avengers: Secret Wars animated shorts separately from those 26 episodes. The distinction matters when a listing includes the shorts alongside the season, since Disney gives the shorts their own entry. Disney XD scheduled the introductory shorts before the two opening Avengers No More episodes in June 2017. The shorts were scheduled daily from June 2 through June 7, and all six were available on the Disney XD App on June 2.

The opening two episodes were scheduled together in an hour on June 17. Disney+ describes Black Panther assembling a new team of Avengers in the second episode. For the season count, use the numbered range of 79 through 104 and identify the six shorts separately.

Avengers: Secret Wars is scheduled for December 17, 2027, according to Variety's report on its release date change. Disney+ lists the movie for a theatrical release in December 2027 and places it in Phase Six of the Multiverse Saga. Variety reported in 2025 that the release moved from May 7 to December 17, 2027. An older listing showing May reflects the earlier announced date.

Disney announced Anthony Russo and Joe Russo as the movie's directors in 2024, and Variety reported that Stephen McFeely would write it. Disney lists Avengers: Doomsday for a US theatrical release on December 18, 2026, before the scheduled Avengers: Secret Wars release. Variety reported the Secret Wars change as part of a broader Disney calendar revision that also removed or relabeled untitled Marvel slots.

The 2027 movie date is separate from the June 17, 2017, premiere of the animated fourth season. The animated season has 26 numbered episodes, while the later listing concerns a theatrical movie. Check the later release announcement when comparing movie listings.

Disney's July 27, 2024, Comic-Con account announced Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom and confirmed Anthony Russo and Joe Russo as directors of Avengers: Secret Wars. Disney also credited the Russo brothers' four previous Marvel Cinematic Universe films with more than $6 billion in global earnings. The announcement provides casting and filmmaking context for the upcoming movies, while the box office figure describes the directors' earlier films.

Variety reported that Stephen McFeely would write Avengers: Secret Wars and replace Michael Waldron on both Avengers screenplays. It also reported that AGBO would co-produce with Marvel. According to Variety, McFeely had co-written the Russo brothers' four previous Marvel films, and the directors attributed their return to a Secret Wars story. Disney later listed Avengers: Doomsday for a US theatrical release on December 18, 2026, while Variety reported December 17, 2027, as the scheduled Secret Wars date.

Those creative details belong to the theatrical projects and do not establish a connection between their plots and the animated fourth season. When comparing announcements, use the production title and the date of the report to identify which version of Secret Wars is being discussed.

Anthony Russo and Joe Russo are directing Avengers: Secret Wars, with Stephen McFeely reported as its writer and AGBO set to co-produce with Marvel. Disney announced the directors in 2024, and Variety reported the writing and production arrangements that July. McFeely replaced Michael Waldron on both Avengers screenplays, according to Variety, so reports naming Waldron describe an earlier writing assignment.

Variety reported that McFeely had co-written the Russo brothers' four previous Marvel films and that the directors attributed their return to a Secret Wars story. Disney credited those four previous Marvel Cinematic Universe films with more than $6 billion in global earnings. The report places the new screenplay alongside an established filmmaking relationship and the AGBO production arrangement.

Disney's Comic-Con account also announced Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom. These details describe the theatrical projects and their creative context; they do not establish that the Secret Wars screenplay adapts Avengers Assemble season four. Disney+ lists the movie for December 2027, while the animated season premiered in June 2017. Check the publication date when comparing reports about the writers attached to the movie.

Disney's May 22, 2025, calendar revision moved Avengers: Secret Wars from May 7 to December 17, 2027, alongside changes to other release slots. Variety reported that Disney removed an untitled Marvel film previously scheduled for February 13, 2026. The November 6, 2026, and November 5, 2027, slots were relabeled as untitled Disney films. The changes affected several entries on the calendar.

Variety placed the broader changes in the context of Bob Iger's strategy of reducing Marvel output to improve quality. That context does not establish a specific screenplay or production problem behind the Avengers: Secret Wars date change. Disney+ lists the movie for December 2027, while Variety provides the scheduled day of December 17. Disney+ also places the movie in Phase Six of the Multiverse Saga.

For another point on the calendar, Disney lists Avengers: Doomsday for a US theatrical release on December 18, 2026. The Secret Wars movie's revised date is also distinct from the animated season's June 17, 2017, premiere. Use the later announcement when an older movie listing still shows the May 2027 date.

You can distinguish the Secret Wars versions by checking their format, release date and full title. Marvel's Avengers: Secret Wars is the fourth season of the animated Avengers Assemble series, which premiered on June 17, 2017. Avengers: Secret Wars is a separate movie directed by Anthony Russo and Joe Russo and scheduled for a theatrical release in December 2027. Variety reported December 17 as the movie's scheduled release date.

For the animated version, Disney's content list gives 26 numbered episodes and separately identifies six animated shorts. Disney+ describes Black Panther assembling a new Avengers team in the season's second episode, which can help identify that story. Disney XD scheduled the introductory shorts before the two opening Avengers No More episodes. For the movie, Disney+ places its theatrical listing in Phase Six of the Multiverse Saga, and Variety reported Stephen McFeely as its writer.

A shared title does not establish that the movie follows the animated plot or shares its continuity. Check the season number and episode details for the animation, or the theatrical release information for the movie.
