Austin Powers Movies: All Three Films in the Spy Parody Series
The Austin Powers movies are a trilogy of three spy comedies directed by Jay Roach and starring Mike Myers: International Man of Mystery (1997), The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999) and Goldmember (2002). A fourth film has no release date, because Myers only answered "Yes" to a fan question in June 2026 and no studio has announced production.

How many Austin Powers movies are thereAustin Powers Movies: What the Series Is About
The Austin Powers series is a trilogy of spy comedies in which Mike Myers plays both the flamboyant British agent Austin Powers and his scheming enemy Dr. Evil, and Jay Roach directed all three films. There are three films and no spin-offs: Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997), Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999) and Austin Powers in Goldmember (2002). Each is rated PG-13 in the US, 12 in the UK and M in Australia, and the runtimes sit between 89 and 95 minutes, so a full marathon fits in an afternoon.
Is Austin Powers making fun of 007? Yes, and the clearest evidence is in the titles: the second film's title plays on the Bond title The Spy Who Loved Me. The Bond connection reached the legal desk too, since MGM and Danjaq objected to the Goldmember title before release and the dispute was settled. If you want the originals behind the jokes, the James Bond hub covers that saga, and the Austin Powers Bond parody page looks at the spy film targets.
The premise is a fish out of water story with a freezer in it. In 1967 Austin defeats Dr. Evil, who freezes himself to return once free love has faded and greed has come back, and Austin has himself frozen so he can face his enemy again. In 1997 both men are thawed out, and Dr. Evil finds that several of his old plans have already happened without him while his lieutenant Number Two has turned the company Virtucon into a huge legitimate business. Dr. Evil has no interest in business and demands $100 billion from the world under threat of nuclear weapons. He also meets his teenage son Scott, who wants nothing to do with him.
The first film was made cheaply and it shows, in the best way. International Man of Mystery cost $16.5 million and earned $67.7 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo. In an oral history, The A.V. Club recounts that the budget produced cheap looking effects, that test screenings went poorly and that the premiere at Mann's Chinese Theater was low key. The film also carries a tribute to Myers's father. As such, the sequels arrived with much more money behind them: $33 million for The Spy Who Shagged Me and $63 million for Goldmember.
The money followed. The Spy Who Shagged Me is the highest grossing film in the series at $313.7 million worldwide, with a $54.9 million opening weekend, and Goldmember took $296.9 million. Added together, the three films made about $678 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo. The ensemble around Myers is deep: Elizabeth Hurley, Heather Graham, Beyoncé, Michael York, Seth Green, Mindy Sterling, Robert Wagner, Will Ferrell, Verne Troyer and Michael Caine all appear across the saga, and George S. Clinton scored every film. For the full numbers, see Austin Powers box office, the Austin Powers soundtrack page and the Austin Powers cast page.

Austin Powers Movies in Order
The Austin Powers movies in order are International Man of Mystery (1997), The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999) and Goldmember (2002), and release order and chronological order are the same. The full explanation sits on the Austin Powers movies in order page, and the Austin Powers timeline shows how the sequels hop between 1967, 1969, 1975, 1997 and 2002.
- Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997), directed by Jay Roach, 89 minutes. Dr. Evil is thawed out in 1997 and demands $100 billion, while the Ministry of Defense thaws Austin and pairs him with Vanessa Kensington, the daughter of his former partner.
- Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999), directed by Jay Roach, 95 minutes. Dr. Evil travels back to 1969 to steal Austin's mojo, the source of his charm and drive, and Austin follows him and teams up with an American agent named Felicity Shagwell. Mini-Me, a small clone of Dr. Evil, joins the cast here.
- Austin Powers in Goldmember (2002), directed by Jay Roach, 94 minutes. Dr. Evil plans to go back to 1975 and team up with a gold obsessed Dutch criminal named Goldmember, and Austin learns that his father, the spy Nigel Powers, has been kidnapped.
Where should a newcomer start? In my opinion, start with the first film, because it sets up the freezer premise and introduces Dr. Evil, Number Two and Scott before the sequels build on them. That being said, the biggest box office hit of the three is a fair entry point if a friend insists, although in my view you get the most from watching in order.
Is There an Austin Powers 4?
There is no officially announced Austin Powers 4: Mike Myers said "Yes" in June 2026 when a fan asked on Trevor Noah's World Cup Watch Party whether a fourth film will happen, and nothing has been confirmed since. According to NME, Myers gave that answer on 16 June 2026, and he gave no details on timing, story, cast, crew or studio. There is no greenlight, no studio announcement and no release date, so the status is in development, with every date still to be confirmed.
Are they making a fourth Austin Powers movie? Not in any way that can be dated. A fourth film has been talked about before: Fox News reported a deal for Myers to make Austin Powers 4 in April 2016, with no studio, date or director attached, and the film was not made. That history is a good reason to treat the new comment as encouraging but unconfirmed. Status, dates by country and any reported rumors, each labeled with its source, are on the Austin Powers 4 page.
No trailer exists for a fourth film, because production has not been announced. The Austin Powers 4 trailer page collects the official trailers for the three released films instead.

Austin Powers charactersThe main characters in Austin Powers are the spy Austin Powers and the villain Dr. Evil, both played by Mike Myers, plus a supporting ensemble that changes slightly with each film. Our Austin Powers characters page covers all of them, and the leads have pages of their own.
- Austin Powers: the British spy, played by Mike Myers, who is frozen in 1967 and revived in 1997. The Austin Powers character page follows him through all three films.
- Dr. Evil: the bald villain, also played by Myers, who demands $100 billion in the first film.
- Vanessa Kensington: played by Elizabeth Hurley, the partner paired with Austin in the first film.
- Scott Evil: Dr. Evil's teenage son, played by Seth Green.
- Mini-Me: the small clone of Dr. Evil, played by Verne Troyer, who arrives in the second film. The Mini-Me Austin Powers page covers his role.

Others anchor the series too. Michael York plays Basil Exposition, Robert Wagner plays Number Two, Mindy Sterling plays Frau Farbissina, Will Ferrell plays Mustafa, and Michael Caine plays Nigel Powers, Austin's father, in Goldmember. Because Myers plays several roles in the sequels, the credits list him under multiple characters, and the Austin Powers cameos page tracks the guest appearances.
