Spiderman and Friends: The Animated Shows Explained

Spiderman and friends can refer to two animated series: Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends from 1981 and Marvel's Spidey and his Amazing Friends from 2021. Their similar titles make the year and the characters useful clues when you are trying to identify one of them. The older show follows Spider-Man with Iceman and Firestar, while the newer series follows Peter Parker, Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy as Team Spidey.

Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends began on NBC, with Spider-Man fighting crime in New York City alongside Iceman and Firestar. TV Guide lists three seasons for that series. If a listing names those two companions, use the full 1981 title to find its episode information. The show's title contains Spider-Man rather than Spidey, another detail to check against a shortened search result.

Marvel's Spidey and his Amazing Friends premiered on August 6, 2021, as Marvel's first full-length preschool series. Its central team includes Peter Parker, Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy, so Peter's name alone does not settle which series a listing describes. For broader franchise coverage, visit the Spider-Man movies overview; for these animated shows, match the title and team before checking individual seasons.

Spider-Man's teammates in the 1981 series Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends are Iceman and Firestar. TV Guide describes the three heroes fighting crime in New York City, giving the series a central partnership that can be identified by the characters named in a listing. Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends began on NBC in 1981, so the network and year offer additional details to check when the title is shortened.

TV Guide's cast credits identify Iceman as Bobby Drake and Firestar as Angelica Jones. Those civilian names and superhero names refer to the same two characters, which can help when one listing uses Bobby or Angelica while another uses Iceman or Firestar. Peter Parker is Spider-Man, and his two teammates distinguish the central group from Team Spidey in the separate 2021 preschool series.

Individual episodes of Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends also include other characters. The episode “The Crime of All Centuries” features Kraven the Hunter and Firestar, while “7 Little Superheroes” features Captain America, Sub-Mariner, Doctor Strange and Shanna alongside Spider-Man, Iceman and Firestar. When identifying the series from a remembered character, check whether that character is one of the central teammates or appears in a particular episode.

Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends began in 1981 and aired on NBC. TV Guide lists three seasons for the animated series, a count that belongs to the show featuring Spider-Man, Iceman and Firestar. The full title, starting year and network give you three details to compare with a television listing before using its season or episode information.

Marvel's Spidey and his Amazing Friends premiered on August 6, 2021, making its starting year 40 years later than the 1981 series. The newer title follows Peter Parker, Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy as Team Spidey and was described by Marvel as its first full-length preschool series. A result for one show should therefore be checked by title and team before its dates are applied to the other.

Season information also needs the title attached. TV Guide's three season listing concerns Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, while Disney announced a third season renewal for Marvel's Spidey and his Amazing Friends on June 15, 2022. That announcement date identifies the renewal, rather than a premiere date for the season. If you are looking for the older series, use its full title and 1981 start alongside the season count.

Episodes of Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends feature Kraven the Hunter and heroes including Captain America and Doctor Strange. TV Guide's episode descriptions identify these characters in particular stories, alongside members of the central team. The appearances offer useful clues if you remember a character from an episode but need to confirm the series title before consulting an episode guide.

“The Crime of All Centuries” features Kraven the Hunter and Firestar, according to TV Guide. Firestar is one of Spider-Man's regular teammates in the 1981 series, while Kraven the Hunter is named in the episode description. The documented pairing identifies two characters involved in that story without requiring an account of its outcome. Use the episode title with Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends when checking that listing.

“7 Little Superheroes” features Spider-Man, Iceman and Firestar with Captain America, Sub-Mariner, Doctor Strange and Shanna. Those names identify the characters in that episode, while the central partnership remains Spider-Man, Iceman and Firestar. The two episode descriptions provide examples rather than a complete index of appearances. If a remembered guest is your starting point, compare the episode title and character list with the 1981 series before choosing a result.

The fourth season of Marvel's Spidey and his Amazing Friends credits Alkaio Thiele as Peter Parker, Audrey Bennett as Gwen Stacy and Carter Young as Miles Morales. Disney Branded Television lists the three performers among the regular voice cast for that season. Those credits belong to the preschool series and its fourth season, so the title and season should accompany the names whenever you use them.

Peter Parker is also Spider-Man in the 1981 series Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, but a shared character name does not make a fourth season credit for the newer show a credit for the older one. Iceman and Firestar are the central teammates identified for the 1981 series, while Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy join Peter Parker in Team Spidey. Checking those companion names can help establish which production a cast listing describes.

Disney's May 29, 2025 announcement scheduled the fourth season of Marvel's Spidey and his Amazing Friends to premiere on Disney Jr. on June 16, 2025. Disney also identifies Water-Webs as a story arc introduced in that season. If you are checking one of the three voice credits, look for the full series title and season four rather than relying on Peter Parker's name alone.

Marvel's Spidey and his Amazing Friends is a preschool series that premiered on August 6, 2021, and follows Peter Parker, Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy. Marvel identifies the three heroes as Team Spidey and describes the production as its first full-length preschool series. Those details distinguish the show from Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, the animated series that began on NBC in 1981.

The two teams share Peter Parker, but their other central members differ. Team Spidey includes Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy, while Spider-Man fights crime with Iceman and Firestar in the 1981 series. The full titles provide another useful check: the newer show uses Spidey, while the older show uses Spider-Man. When a result names Peter without his companions, look for the year or complete title before assigning it to either production.

The newer series has its own season history. Disney announced a third season renewal on June 15, 2022, and its later announcement scheduled season four for June 16, 2025, on Disney Jr. Disney Kids & Family also identifies a fifth season with the Rescue-Webs story arc and the villain Symbie. Use the season number as well as the series title when looking for a particular announcement or cast credit.

The later seasons of Marvel's Spidey and his Amazing Friends include a third season renewal, a Water-Webs arc in season four and a Rescue-Webs arc in season five. Disney announced the third season renewal on June 15, 2022. That date belongs to the announcement, so it should be used as a renewal date when comparing the show's season information.

Disney's May 29, 2025 announcement scheduled the fourth season premiere for June 16, 2025, on Disney Jr. The fourth season introduces the Water-Webs story arc, and its regular voice cast includes Alkaio Thiele as Peter Parker, Audrey Bennett as Gwen Stacy and Carter Young as Miles Morales. Those cast names and the arc give you details to check against a season four listing for Marvel's Spidey and his Amazing Friends.

Disney Kids & Family identifies the Rescue-Webs story arc and the villain Symbie as additions in season five. The fifth season information is separate from the scheduled fourth season premiere, so the 2025 date should not be attached to Rescue-Webs. When a listing mentions Water-Webs or Rescue-Webs, compare its season number with the relevant Disney information before using it to identify a particular part of the series.

The two shows can be distinguished by their full titles, starting years and central teams. Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends began in 1981 and features Spider-Man with Iceman and Firestar, while Marvel's Spidey and his Amazing Friends premiered in 2021 and follows Peter Parker, Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy. Both include Peter Parker, so his companions are a useful detail to check when a listing omits the full title.

Marvel describes Marvel's Spidey and his Amazing Friends as its first full-length preschool series. For a television listing, start with the complete title and then check the team or year; use the season number when looking up a voice credit or story arc.
