Percy Jackson Movie Trailer: Both Films and What Comes Next

There are two Percy Jackson films and so two sets of movie trailers to look for: The Lightning Thief (2010), directed by Chris Columbus, and Sea of Monsters (2013), directed by Thor Freudenthal. No third film has been announced, so there is no "new Percy Jackson movie trailer" to find. If a video claims to be one, treat it as fan made or as promotion for the Disney+ series, which is a television adaptation and not a film. Both films are rated PG in the US and UK, and in Australia The Lightning Thief is rated M while Sea of Monsters is rated PG.

The first film is the one most people mean when they search for the Percy Jackson movie trailer from 2010. Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief opened in the US and UK on February 12, 2010, and in Australia on February 11, according to Box Office Mojo, with a runtime of 118 minutes. Logan Lerman plays Percy, with Brandon T. Jackson as Grover Underwood and Alexandra Daddario as Annabeth Chase. Pierce Brosnan plays Mr. Brunner, who is also the centaur Chiron, while Sean Bean, Steve Coogan and Kevin McKidd play Zeus, Hades and Poseidon.

The story any trailer for this film is selling is simple to state. Percy is a teenager with dyslexia and ADHD who lives with his mother Sally and her unpleasant boyfriend Gabe. Zeus accuses Poseidon's demigod son of stealing his master lightning bolt and sets a deadline of the summer solstice before the gods go to war. A Fury attacks Percy on a museum trip, and the escape leads to Camp Half-Blood, where he learns he is Poseidon's son. If you are choosing a trailer to watch with younger children, the PG rating is the guide, and the percy jackson the lightning thief page has the full cast and plot.

The second film is the answer for anyone looking for Percy Jackson movie trailer 2. Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters reached US theaters on August 7, 2013, the UK on August 9 and Australia on September 19, according to Box Office Mojo, and runs 106 minutes. Lerman, Jackson and Daddario return, joined by Douglas Smith as Tyson, the cyclops who turns out to be Percy's half-brother, and Leven Rambin as Clarisse La Rue. Stanley Tucci plays Mr. D, Nathan Fillion plays Hermes and Anthony Stewart Head takes over as Chiron.

The set up is different in tone from the first film. Thalia Grace has long been turned into a pine tree whose magic protects the camp, other campers sneer at Percy as a one quest wonder, and Luke has poisoned the tree. Annabeth finds that the Golden Fleece could heal it, and the quest goes to Clarisse. The film's songs include "My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light Em Up)" by Fall Out Boy and "Cameo Lover" by Kimbra, which is useful to know if you are matching a trailer to its soundtrack. Details sit on the percy jackson sea of monsters page.

The two films pitch different adventures, and a trailer for each is selling a different shape of story. The Lightning Thief is a discovery film: a museum trip, a Fury attack, a flight to Camp Half-Blood and a cross country quest that, by its cast list, brings Percy face to face with Uma Thurman's Medusa, Steve Coogan's Hades and Rosario Dawson's Persephone. Sea of Monsters is a rescue film. The camp is already familiar, a Colchis bull attacks it, and the goal is the Golden Fleece to save Thalia's poisoned tree, so the stakes are about protecting a home rather than finding one. It also adds a sibling story through Tyson, which gives Percy a family tie the first film never offered.

The production history explains why the second film feels like a different project. Fox 2000 exercised its option on Lerman, but Columbus stepped back to producer and Freudenthal was hired in June 2011 to direct, according to The Christian Science Monitor. The music changed too: Christophe Beck scored the first film and Andrew Lockington the second. In money terms, The Lightning Thief earned about $226 million worldwide on a $95 million budget, while Sea of Monsters earned nearly $200 million on a $90 million budget, according to Box Office Mojo. In my reading of those numbers, the second film's smaller return is the likeliest reason no third film followed, though no studio has said so. If you are new to the saga, start with the first trailer, since it introduces every camp character the second film assumes you know.

There is not, because a third film was never made. Both movies were 20th Century Fox releases, and no studio or trade announcement dates another Percy Jackson feature. For the current status, see the new percy jackson movie page, which tracks it as unannounced.

The trailer that people now find at the top of search results belongs to the television series, not the films. Percy Jackson and the Olympians is a Disney+ series, and Season 3, based on The Titan's Curse, premieres on Disney+ on November 20, 2026, according to Disney's press site (published July 23, 2026). That announcement does not mention any film. Season 3 trailers should come from Disney+'s own official channels, and since they are not film trailers, they have no film page here.

Both films stream on Disney+ in the US, UK and Australia, according to JustWatch data on TMDB checked November 3, 2026. The Lightning Thief is also on Tubi TV with ads in the US, and both films can be rented or bought from services such as Apple TV and Amazon Video.
