Who Is Eddie Kaspbrak in the IT Movies?
Eddie Kaspbrak is a member of the Losers Club, the group of seven outcasts who take on Pennywise in Derry, Maine, in the IT movies directed by Andy Muschietti. He first appears in It (2017), where he is billed sixth, and Jack Dylan Grazer plays him as a kid in the summer after Georgie Denbrough disappears.
In the opening act of that film, Eddie is one of the wisecracking friends, alongside Richie and Stan, who help Bill Denbrough search for clues about his missing brother Georgie. The group is soon joined by Ben, Beverly and Mike, and the seven become the Losers Club. Like every member of the group, Eddie is pursued by terrifying visions shaped around his own fears, which is how Pennywise works throughout the saga.
In It Chapter Two, set 27 years later, James Ransone plays the adult Eddie (billed sixth), while Grazer returns in the childhood flashbacks, credited as Young Eddie Kaspbrak. If you want the whole group in one place, our IT characters page lists every main character, and the Losers Club IT page covers the group as a unit.
Eddie began on the page, not the screen. The two films are based on Stephen King's horror novel, and the character has been played before in television. In the 1990 miniseries, Dennis Christopher played the adult Eddie and Adam Faraizl played him as a kid. That miniseries is television, so it has no film page here. Eddie's mother, a figure from King's story, is named Myra Kaspbrak.

Eddie Kaspbrak's Story Arc Across Both FilmsSpoilers
Eddie's arc runs from a frightened kid in Derry in 1989 to an adult who gives everything for his friends in 2016, and it plays out across two films that together cover 27 years of story time.
In It (2017), Eddie is bullied by Henry Bowers and his gang, like the rest of the group. The Losers work out that a creature they call It wakes about every 27 years to feed on Derry's children, and their research points to an abandoned house on Neibolt Street as the creature's way into the sewers. Eddie goes there with the others, and the encounter ends with Beverly driving a spike into the creature's head, so that It retreats. Later Pennywise snatches Beverly, and Eddie is among the boys who go back to rescue her. In the sewers the group refuses to leave Bill behind, fights together and wounds the creature. At the end of the summer Eddie cuts his palm in the blood oath to return if It ever comes back.
In It Chapter Two, Mike calls the adult Losers home in 2016 and Eddie is one of the five who return to Derry, as Stanley has died by suicide instead of coming back. Mike sends the group on separate searches for personal objects that will power a ritual, and each one is haunted by Pennywise and by memories they had forgotten. Once those memories are recovered, Eddie heads into the sewers beneath Derry with the others for the final fight.
Eddie Kaspbrak's Relationships: Richie, Bill and the Losers Club
Eddie's most important relationships are with the other Losers, and above all with Richie Tozier, the friend he dies protecting in It Chapter Two.
Richie Tozier. Eddie and Richie Tozier are introduced together in It (2017) as part of Bill's circle of wisecracking friends, with Stan. In Chapter Two, Richie kills Henry Bowers during the fight at the library, and later Eddie is fatally impaled while saving Richie in the sewers. Richie is played by Finn Wolfhard as a kid and Bill Hader as an adult.
Bill Denbrough. Bill Denbrough is the one who refuses to accept that Georgie is dead and keeps searching for him, and Eddie is one of the friends who search alongside him. In the sewers at the end of It (2017), Pennywise grabs Bill and offers to let the others go if they leave Bill behind. They refuse.
Stan, Ben, Beverly and Mike. Stanley Uris is Eddie's other long-standing friend, and his death before the reunion is why only five adults gather in Chapter Two. Ben Hanscom, Beverly Marsh and Mike Hanlon complete the group.
Henry Bowers and Pennywise. Henry Bowers and his gang bully Eddie and the other Losers in the first film. Pennywise targets Eddie, as he does everyone, with a vision built around a personal fear.
What Happened to Eddie Kaspbrak? His Death in It Chapter TwoSpoilers
Eddie Kaspbrak dies in It Chapter Two (2019), fatally impaled while saving Richie Tozier in the final fight beneath Derry. He survives all of It (2017) and most of the sequel, so the death arrives late.
In the sewers, Pennywise takes a huge spider-like form and tries to break the Losers with their worst fears. Eddie's rescue of Richie costs him his life. The surviving Losers then mock the creature until it shrinks and weakens, and they crush its heart, so that It dies and the cavern collapses. Eddie's body is left behind in the collapse.
Afterward the scars on the Losers' hands fade, which shows the curse is broken. They go separate ways, Mike leaves Derry, and Bill reads a letter Stanley left for them. Stanley has already died before the reunion, so Eddie's loss lands as the second of the group that the sequel takes from the Losers.
Eddie Kaspbrak's Best Moments, Ranked by Impact
In my opinion, Eddie's best moments are the ones where the films give him a choice, and the strongest of them comes at the end of his story.
1. The sacrifice in the sewers (It Chapter Two). Eddie is fatally impaled while saving Richie, and, as such, it is the moment that turns a supporting Loser into the emotional center of the final fight. It could be argued that the death works because the film waits until the last act, after Stanley has already been lost, to take him.
2. The refusal to leave Bill behind (It (2017)). When Pennywise offers to let the others go if they abandon Bill, the group refuses, and Eddie is one of the kids who stands with him. This is the scene that proves the Losers Club is a group and not seven separate victims.
3. The return to Derry (It Chapter Two). Eddie is one of five adults who answer Mike's call. Stanley's absence makes the choice weigh more, since the group has just learned he died rather than return, and Beverly's visions suggest they will all die if they break their oath.
Perhaps the neatest piece of casting is that Grazer returns for the flashbacks while Ransone carries the adult scenes, so the same character is played by two actors who each get a real stretch of story.
