Austin Powers Cast: Who Plays Who in Each Film

Mike Myers is the center of the Austin Powers cast, playing the spy Austin Powers and the villain Dr. Evil in Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997), Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999) and Austin Powers in Goldmember (2002). Each sequel adds another Myers role: Fat Bastard in the second film, and Goldmember himself in the third. If you want the full roster of roles, our Austin Powers characters page covers them one by one.

The first film, directed by Jay Roach, bills Myers first and Elizabeth Hurley second. Hurley plays Vanessa Kensington, the daughter of Austin's former partner, whom the British Ministry of Defense pairs with him after he is thawed out in 1997. Michael York plays Basil Exposition, Mimi Rogers plays Mrs. Kensington, and Robert Wagner plays Number Two, the lieutenant who has turned Dr. Evil's company, Virtucon, into a legitimate business. Seth Green plays Scott Evil, the teenage son who wants nothing to do with his father, Mindy Sterling plays Frau Farbissina, Fabiana Udenio plays Alotta Fagina and Will Ferrell plays Mustafa.

The Spy Who Shagged Me keeps most of that ensemble and adds new faces. Heather Graham is billed second as Felicity Shagwell, the American agent who teams up with Austin when he follows Dr. Evil back to 1969. Verne Troyer is billed third as Mini-Me, the small clone Dr. Evil gains in the story. Hurley returns as Vanessa, now billed ninth, and Rob Lowe plays the young Number Two. Gia Carides appears as Robin Swallows.

Goldmember sends the story to 1975 and reshuffles the cast again. Beyoncé is billed second as Foxxy Cleopatra, a disco era agent and a former flame of Austin, and Michael Caine plays Austin's kidnapped father, the spy Nigel Powers. Fred Savage plays Number Three, Diane Mizota and Carrie Ann Inaba play Fook Mi and Fook Yu, and Nobu Matsuhisa plays Mr. Roboto. Aaron Himelstein and Josh Zuckerman play the young Austin and the young Evil. Troyer returns as Mini-Me, and the villain role of Goldmember is another Myers creation.

Who Directed and Scored the Austin Powers Movies?

Jay Roach directed all three Austin Powers films, and George S. Clinton composed the music for each of them. Having the same director and composer on every film keeps the tone steady from the 1997 original to the 2002 finale.

The budgets rose with each film. International Man of Mystery ran 89 minutes on a budget of $16.5 million and grossed $67.7 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo. Reporting by The A.V. Club on the first film ties its cheap looking effects to that small budget. The Spy Who Shagged Me doubled the budget to $33 million, ran 95 minutes and took in $313.7 million worldwide. Goldmember cost $63 million, ran 94 minutes and grossed $296.9 million worldwide. Our Austin Powers box office page has the full breakdown of domestic and international figures.

Among the other credited filmmakers, Eric McLeod is a producer on the second film, and New Line issued the September 2001 press release announcing the third film's director, writer, producers, mid November start and July 26, 2002 release plan. Clinton's scoring work sits alongside the licensed songs that the second film is known for, which we cover on the Austin Powers soundtrack page.

The films also borrow their shape from the spy genre they spoof. If you want to see which spy conventions Roach and Myers target, the Austin Powers Bond parody page breaks it down, and our James Bond hub covers the series being lampooned.

Who Returns and Who Is Replaced Across the Films?

Five actors are billed in the top 15 of all three films: Mike Myers, Michael York, Robert Wagner, Seth Green and Mindy Sterling. It could be argued that this core is what holds the saga together, since the same names anchor every film: Austin and Dr. Evil, Basil Exposition, Number Two (Dr. Evil's lieutenant), Scott Evil and Frau Farbissina.

The leading lady is the one role that rotates. Elizabeth Hurley is Vanessa Kensington in International Man of Mystery and The Spy Who Shagged Me, Heather Graham plays the new partner Felicity Shagwell in the second, and Beyoncé takes over that slot as Foxxy Cleopatra in the third. In my opinion, this is a smart structural choice, because each film sets its adventure in a different era and a fresh partner suits the new setting.

Other actors come and go by film. Will Ferrell is billed as Mustafa in the first two films. Verne Troyer is billed as Mini-Me in the second and third. Michael Caine plays Nigel Powers in Goldmember.

The flashback characters are the clearest recasts, since the same character is played by different performers in different films. The young Number Two is played by Rob Lowe in The Spy Who Shagged Me and by Evan Farmer in Goldmember, and Goldmember also adds a young Austin (Aaron Himelstein) and a young Evil (Josh Zuckerman).

Hurley is billed ninth in The Spy Who Shagged Me, and how Vanessa's story plays out there is covered on that film's page. If you are watching in order, start with our Austin Powers movies in order guide.

As for a fourth film, nothing is cast. Mike Myers answered "Yes" when asked about Austin Powers 4 on Trevor Noah's World Cup Watch Party on June 16, 2026, according to NME, and gave no details on timing, story, cast, crew or studio. There is no greenlight or release date, so the latest on Austin Powers 4 stays on its own page.
