What Is Scream 7 About?

Scream 7 (2026), directed by Kevin Williamson, is about Sidney Prescott, now living under the name Sidney Evans, being dragged back into the horror she thought she had left behind when a new Ghostface starts killing in Woodsboro. Sidney has built a quiet family life far from her past, and her daughter Tatum is a teenager with her own friends and a boyfriend. That calm ends when the new killer turns attention toward Tatum.

If you are new to the series, the setup works like this: Ghostface is the masked killer who has stalked Sidney and her circle since Scream (1996), and each film gives the mask to someone new. Here the old guard answers the call, and Gale Weathers and Mindy Meeks-Martin both become involved as Sidney is pulled back into the fight. The film is a direct follow up to Scream VI, though it leaves New York behind and returns to the small town where it all started.

The film is rated R in the US, rated 18 in the UK and MA 15+ in Australia. If you want the whole saga first, the Scream movies in order page lays out the sequence, and the Scream movies hub covers every film.

What Songs Are in Scream 7?

Marco Beltrami composed the score for Scream 7 (2026), released as "Scream 7: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack" on Lakeshore Records on May 22, 2026, a 24 track album. Alongside the score, the film uses eleven songs, and five of them were written for it.

Which songs were made for the film? They are "Twisting the Knife" by Ice Nine Kills and Mckenna Grace, "Creepin" by Don Toliver, "Criminal" by Jessie Murph, "The Kill" by Stella Lefty and "Rearranging Scars" by Sueco.

Where do they play? "Criminal" arrives as Ghostface walks away from a house fire and the title graphic appears, then carries into a bedroom scene with Tatum. "The Kill" plays as Sidney wraps up a conversation with Tatum, while Tatum leaves home and Sidney reaches a coffee shop. "Rearranging Scars" comes from a car driven by Ben as it pulls up. "Creepin" plays over the start of the end credits, and "Twisting the Knife" follows right after.

The remaining songs sit in smaller moments:

  • "Red Right Hand" by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds: an outdoor montage begins as Tatum meets Chloe at a closed restaurant.
  • "Nothing's Gonna Hurt You Baby" by Cigarettes After Sex: plays from a speaker as Ben helps Tatum with her jacket.
  • "Look Out for Me" by Turnstile: Sidney holds a gun in a garage, then turns off a radio.
  • "First Cool Hive" by Moby: continues as Robbie Rivers begins a news report.
  • "Who's Your Boyfriend" by Royel Otis: plays from a speaker as Chloe brings pizza to friends.
  • "Enuff" by Vindigo: plays as Mark talks with a construction worker named Woody.

For the whole series, the Scream soundtrack page covers composers and songs film by film.

Scream 7 Plot Summary: Full StorySpoilers

The full plot of Scream 7 runs from a Woodsboro house to a final confrontation with two Ghostfaces, and it ends with both of them dead. The film opens with a couple attacked at a house in Woodsboro, which starts the new killing spree. Tatum becomes the main target soon after, and her friends and boyfriend are picked off while she is chased around town.

One of the two Ghostface killers turns out to be Karl Gibbs, an escaped patient from a mental institution. He is being directed by a voice that presents itself as Stu Macher, the name of a character from Scream (1996). That persona was in fact built by Marco Davis, a supervisor at the institution, who used computer skills to fake it. Ghostface then captures Tatum at home.

The second Ghostface is unmasked as Jessica Bowden, a neighbor of Sidney's. Jessica had killed her abusive husband and her own son Lucas. She believed Sidney's fame came from killing the people who tormented her, and she wanted to turn Tatum into a new final girl.

Sidney shoots Marco dead, Tatum frees herself, and mother and daughter together kill Jessica. Sidney's husband Mark survives and is taken to hospital. Sidney and Gale repair their friendship, and the survivors begin to move on. For the wider pattern of who wears the mask across the series, see the Ghostface killers page.

Scream 7 Release Date, Premiere and Box Office

Scream 7 was released in US theaters on February 27, 2026, in the UK on the same day, and in Australia a day earlier on February 26, 2026. The US date is confirmed by a Skydance news post, while the UK and Australian dates are reported from TMDB and Box Office Mojo. The film premiered on February 25, 2026 at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles.

Did Scream 7 flop? By the numbers, no. The film earned $121.9 million domestically and $91.9 million internationally, for a worldwide total of $213.8 million on a $45 million budget, according to The Numbers. KSAT reported an opening weekend that was a franchise best. On worldwide gross it sits ahead of all six earlier films, including Scream VI.

A fair caveat is that a bigger budget and a bigger gross do not tell you profit, because studios do not publish marketing costs. The full run of figures sits on the Scream box office page.

Where can you stream Scream 7? In the US it is on Amazon Prime Video, with rental and purchase options on Amazon Video, Apple TV, Google Play, YouTube and Fandango At Home. In the UK it is on Paramount Plus, Sky Go and Now TV Cinema. In Australia it is on Paramount Plus. Availability was checked on November 3, 2026, and the where to watch Scream page tracks every film.

Scream 7 Ending ExplainedSpoilers

The ending of Scream 7 closes the story by killing both Ghostfaces, Marco and Jessica, and by turning the killer's motive into a comment on what it means to be the final girl. Sidney shoots Marco, then she and Tatum kill Jessica together, which in my opinion is the most important beat of the film because it puts a mother and daughter on the same side of the final fight.

Why did Jessica do it? She believed Sidney's fame came from killing the people who tormented her, so she wanted to give Tatum the same story. It is a sharp twist on the series habit of killers copying the movies, because here the copy is of Sidney's real life rather than of Stab. It could be argued that this is the closest the series has come to examining what a survivor's reputation does to the people around her.

What about the Stu Macher voice? The voice presenting itself as Stu was a fake built by Marco Davis, who used computer skills to create it. As such, Stu himself does not return, and the film plays on the audience's memory of Scream (1996) rather than reviving a character. That gives Matthew Lillard a link to the plot without undoing the first film.

Perhaps the ending is best read as a handoff. Sidney and Gale repair their friendship, and the survivors begin to move on, while the credits scene hands the microphone to Mindy. Reporting says the ending closes character arcs rather than teasing a sequel, but a Scream 8 has since been reported in development. If you want the logic of the killers' behavior, the Scream rules page is a good companion.

Does Scream 7 Have a Post Credit Scene?Spoilers

Yes, Scream 7 has a credits scene in which Mindy Meeks-Martin asks to deliver the news report about the new killings herself, while Gale Weathers steps back and watches. It works as a handoff from the older generation to the younger one.

A separate scene showing Stu Macher alive was shot but cut after test screenings, according to Matthew Lillard, who said it did not work in screenings shown without credits. As a result, the finished film never confirms that Stu survived the events of Scream (1996), and the voice stays a fabrication.

Where Was Scream 7 Filmed?

Scream 7 was filmed in Georgia, with studio work at Great Point Studios in Atlanta. Principal photography began in early January 2025, according to Screen Global Production.

The film is set in Woodsboro, California. For comparison, Scream (2022) shot around Wilmington, North Carolina. Location shooting beyond Atlanta is only described as being in Georgia.
