The 5 Main Twilight Movies

How Many Twilight Movies Are There All Together?

There are five Twilight movies, and all five belong to the main saga: the series has no spin-off films. They opened in US theaters between November 2008 and November 2012, starting with Twilight 2008, directed by Catherine Hardwicke, and finishing with Breaking Dawn Part 2, directed by Bill Condon. Kristen Stewart plays Bella Swan and Robert Pattinson plays Edward Cullen in every film, and Taylor Lautner appears as Jacob Black from the first movie to the last. The full titles are Twilight (2008), The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009), The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (2010), The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 (2011) and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 (2012). The Twilight movies hub covers the wider franchise.

The Five Twilight Movies in Release Order

The five films, in the order they reached US theaters, are:

  1. Twilight 2008, directed by Catherine Hardwicke, released November 21, 2008, running 122 minutes.
  2. The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009), directed by Chris Weitz, released November 20, 2009, running 131 minutes.
  3. The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (2010), directed by David Slade, released June 30, 2010, running 124 minutes.
  4. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 (2011), directed by Bill Condon, released November 18, 2011, running 117 minutes.
  5. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 (2012), directed by Bill Condon, released November 16, 2012, running 115 minutes.

If you want the same films arranged for a first viewing, the Twilight movies in order page lays out the sequence.

Four Directors, One Summer Release and a Split Finale

Five films were made by four different directors. Hardwicke opened the series, and Weitz was hired to direct New Moon after she left the sequel, which Screen Daily reported in December 2008. Slade took over for Eclipse, confirmed in April 2009, and Condon then directed both Breaking Dawn films, which were shot back to back. That is why the last story fills two movies: Part 1 follows the wedding and honeymoon of Bella and Edward, and Part 2 turns to their daughter Renesmee and the Volturi.

The calendar has its own quirk. Four of the five films opened in November, between the 16th and the 21st, while Eclipse was the only summer release, arriving on June 30, 2010. Twilight (2008) also moved earlier than planned, shifting from a December 12 date to November 21, according to press reports at the time.

Is There a 6th Twilight Movie?

No sixth Twilight movie has been announced. The only new Twilight project reported is Midnight Sun, an animated series that Netflix ordered straight to series in September 2024. Lionsgate Television is producing it, Sinead Daly is writing and executive producing, and Stephenie Meyer is an executive producer. Deseret News reported it was in development with no release date and no cast, and because it is a series, it does not add a sixth film to the count.

Searches for Twilight 6 or The Twilight Saga 6 trace back mostly to one episode. In August 2025, a Lionsgate social media teaser called Forever Begins Again showed images of Stewart, Pattinson and Lautner, and fans guessed a new movie was coming. The follow-up announcement said no new Twilight movie was in the works: the teaser was for a theatrical return of all five original films in October 2025, as Yahoo Entertainment reported. Anything beyond that is fan speculation, and the new Twilight movie page tracks the status with its sources. If you are looking for footage, the new Twilight movie trailer page covers what exists.

How Long Are All the Twilight Movies?

All five Twilight movies run 609 minutes together, which is 10 hours and 9 minutes. That is close to a ten episode streaming season at an hour per episode, so a weekend marathon is realistic. New Moon is the longest at 131 minutes, and Breaking Dawn Part 2 is the shortest at 115. Twilight (2008) runs 122 minutes, Eclipse 124 and Breaking Dawn Part 1 117.

What the Numbers Say About Five Films

Budgets rose with every installment, and the worldwide gross climbed overall, though not every time: Eclipse earned about $698 million, slightly below New Moon's roughly $710 million. Twilight (2008) cost $37 million and earned about $405 million worldwide, while Breaking Dawn Part 2 cost $120 million and earned about $889 million, the highest total in the series, according to Box Office Mojo. Adding the five worldwide grosses gives roughly $3.4 billion. It could be argued that the first film looks like a modest bet that grew into a franchise, because the budget more than tripled and the gross more than doubled by the finale. The full breakdown sits on the Twilight box office page.

Ratings are steadier than money. All five films carry a PG-13 in the US and a 12A in the UK. Australia classifies four as M and rates Breaking Dawn Part 1 as MA15+, so check the label if you are choosing a film for a younger viewer.

Where to Go Next

As of November 3, 2026, all five films stream on Netflix in the US, according to JustWatch data via TMDB, and the where to watch Twilight page lists the UK and Australia too. To meet the people behind the count, the Twilight cast and Twilight characters pages are the natural next stops, and the Cullen family page explains who is who around Edward. If you are new to the saga, start with Twilight (2008) and keep going in release order.
