Percy Jackson Cast: Every Actor in the Movies

The Percy Jackson cast is led by Logan Lerman in both films: Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief (2010), directed by Chris Columbus, and Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters (2013), directed by Thor Freudenthal. Alexandra Daddario and Brandon T. Jackson fill the next two billing spots each time. Only four of the 15 top billed actors in the first film appear in the sequel's top 15, so most supporting roles changed hands. The Disney+ series Percy Jackson and the Olympians is a television adaptation with a different cast.

Percy Jackson Cast: Who Played Who in the Films?

The Percy Jackson movie cast is headed by Logan Lerman as Percy Jackson, Brandon T. Jackson as Grover Underwood and Alexandra Daddario as Annabeth Chase, billed in that order in both films. The two movies adapt Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson books, which follow a modern teenager who learns he is the son of Poseidon, and they share a young core ensemble surrounded by well known adult actors playing gods, monsters and mentors.

The first film leans on its gods. Sean Bean plays Zeus, Kevin McKidd plays Poseidon and Steve Coogan plays Hades, while Rosario Dawson appears as Persephone and Melina Kanakaredes as Athena. Uma Thurman plays Medusa, and Pierce Brosnan does double duty as the teacher Mr. Brunner and the centaur Chiron. At home, Catherine Keener plays Percy's mother Sally and Joe Pantoliano plays her unpleasant boyfriend Gabe Ugliano.

The sequel shifts the weight toward the camp and its quest. Douglas Smith plays Tyson, the cyclops who turns out to be Percy's half brother, and Leven Rambin plays Clarisse La Rue, who is handed the quest to find the Golden Fleece. Stanley Tucci plays Mr. D, Nathan Fillion plays Hermes, and Ron Perlman lends his voice to Polyphemus. If you want the full character write ups, start with our percy jackson characters page.

Many searches for the new Percy Jackson cast are really about television. The Disney+ series Percy Jackson and the Olympians is a TV show and not a film, and it has its own cast, with names such as Walker Scobell, Leah Sava Jeffries, Aryan Simhadri and Charlie Bushnell. Season 3, adapting The Titan's Curse, premieres November 20, 2026 on Disney+, according to Disney's press site. Everything in the film lineups above belongs to the 2010 and 2013 movies only.

Who Directed the Percy Jackson Movies?

Chris Columbus directed Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief (2010), and Thor Freudenthal directed Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters (2013). Columbus did not return as director for the sequel, but he stayed on as a producer.

The Lightning Thief ran 118 minutes on a $95 million budget and took in $226 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo. Its first act moves from a school trip to a museum attack by a Fury and then a flight to Camp Half-Blood, where Percy learns who his father is. Christophe Beck composed the score.

Freudenthal was hired in June 2011 to replace Columbus, as reported by The Christian Science Monitor, and Fox 2000 exercised its option on Lerman around the same time. Sea of Monsters runs 106 minutes, cost $90 million and grossed $200 million worldwide according to Box Office Mojo. Andrew Lockington composed its score, and the film also features songs by Fall Out Boy and Kimbra. For the full money story, see our percy jackson box office page, and for the music, our percy jackson soundtrack page.

Both films were released by 20th Century Fox. Sea of Monsters centers on Camp Half-Blood, where Tyson arrives, a Colchis bull attacks and Clarisse is handed the quest for the Golden Fleece. Who Returned and Who Was Recast Between the Films?

Four of the top billed actors from The Lightning Thief returned for Sea of Monsters: Logan Lerman, Brandon T. Jackson, Alexandra Daddario and Jake Abel. Everyone else in the top 15 changed, and the clearest recast is Chiron, played by Pierce Brosnan in 2010 and by Anthony Stewart Head in 2013.

Percy, Grover and Annabeth kept the same billing order, so the friendship at the center of the story carried over untouched. Jake Abel also came back as Luke Castellan, and in the sequel Luke is the one who poisons Thalia's tree. In my opinion, that continuity is what keeps the sequel feeling like part of the same saga even though the director, composer and nearly all the supporting players are new.

The gods are where the turnover is most visible. Sean Bean (Zeus), Steve Coogan (Hades) and Kevin McKidd (Poseidon) are not among the top 15 billed in Sea of Monsters, and the sequel brings in Stanley Tucci as Mr. D and Nathan Fillion as Hermes instead. Catherine Keener (Sally Jackson) and Joe Pantoliano (Gabe Ugliano) are likewise absent from that top 15. Thalia is a nice detail: she is played by Katelyn Mager as a child and by Paloma Kwiatkowski as Thalia Grace.

It could be argued that the strongest additions came at camp, since Douglas Smith's Tyson and Leven Rambin's Clarisse give the sequel two new emotional lines for Percy to work through. That being said, a steadier adult cast would have given the series more of the ensemble feel that readers of the books remember.

The films never got a third entry, and no Percy Jackson film has been announced as of November 3, 2026. What came next was television: the Disney+ series Percy Jackson and the Olympians, a separate adaptation with its own cast. If you are choosing what to watch, our percy jackson movies in order guide sets out the sequence, and the new percy jackson movie page tracks the film status.
