Who Plays Jorge?

Who Was Jorge in Maze Runner?

Jorge is one of two locals of the Scorch, the burned and ruined desert, whom Thomas and the surviving Gladers meet after they flee the facility run by WCKD in Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials (2015). He is credited simply as Jorge, and the credits give him no other name, so the question of his real name comes down to the actor: Giancarlo Esposito plays him.

Esposito is billed fourth in The Scorch Trials, behind Dylan O'Brien, Kaya Scodelario and Thomas Brodie-Sangster, and seventh in Maze Runner: The Death Cure (2018). That is a high billing for a character who joins the story only in the second film.

He is not among the top billed cast of the maze runner 2014, which stays inside the Glade and the maze itself. The Scorch Trials, released in the US on September 18, 2015 and running 131 minutes, is where the world widens. It is certified PG-13 in the US and 12A in the UK, and John Paesano scored it, as he did all three films. For how the films compare with the books, see maze runner books vs movies. Jorge in The Scorch Trials: From the Scorch to the Right ArmSpoilers

Jorge's story arc sits in the second half of The Scorch Trials: he meets the Gladers in the desert and travels on with them and Brenda toward the mountains, where they reach the Right Arm, a resistance group. The Gladers reach the Scorch after Thomas discovers that the facility run by Janson actually belongs to WCKD, and that Ava Paige is still alive. During the crossing the group loses Winston to the infection, and soon afterward they meet Brenda and Jorge.

At the Right Arm, Teresa secretly passes the camp's location to WCKD, which then raids it and captures several Immunes, including Minho, Aris and Sonya. Mary Cooper is killed in the attack, and Thomas vows to kill Paige and get his friends back.

Is Jorge good or bad? The films present him and Brenda as locals who travel on with the Gladers, and neither the credits nor the plot summaries give his motives, so any firmer label is opinion.

In The Death Cure, Jorge is credited again, billed seventh. The film centers on Thomas, Newt and Frypan traveling to the Last City to rescue Minho, with Gally helping them inside and Lawrence leading a rebel assault on the city wall. Jorge does not appear in the plot summary of that film, so his role there is not described.

Brenda and Jorge in Maze Runner: Who Is Jorge Close To?

Jorge's closest tie on screen is with Brenda, played by Rosa Salazar, since the two arrive in the story together as the pair of locals who join the Gladers in the Scorch. Salazar is billed seventh in The Scorch Trials and sixth in The Death Cure, so the two characters sit next to each other in the credits of the final film. Brenda has her own profile at brenda maze runner.

His link to thomas maze runner is practical: Jorge travels on with Thomas and the other Gladers toward the mountains. The Right Arm is where that journey leads, and the camp is destroyed in the WCKD raid, in which minho maze runner is taken away.

The betrayal belongs to teresa maze runner, who gives away the camp's location to WCKD. The organization that attacks the camp, and the woman who runs it, are covered in wicked maze runner and ava paige maze runner.

Does Jorge Die in Maze Runner?Spoilers

No death is reported for Jorge in any of the three films, so the short answer to whether he dies in Maze Runner is no, as far as the story is recorded. Chuck and Gally die in the first film, Winston and Mary Cooper in The Scorch Trials, and Newt, Ava Paige, Janson and Teresa in The Death Cure. Jorge appears on none of those lists.

His credit in the 2018 finale is the open question. Esposito is billed seventh there, yet the plot of that film never names Jorge, so what he does between the Last City and the final scenes is not described. The survivors leave the burning headquarters by Berg and settle on a safe island, but they are not named one by one, which means his place among them is unstated.

For the series going forward, the only reporting concerns a reboot. TheWrap reported on May 3, 2024 that 20th Century Studios is developing a continuation of the original trilogy, with Jack Paglen in talks to write and Wes Ball attached as a producer. It gives no release date and says nothing about casting, so Jorge's future is open. Updates are tracked at new maze runner movie.

Best Moments for Jorge: Where He Matters Most

In my opinion, Jorge's best moments come from the shape he gives the middle of the story rather than from any single scene: the meeting with Brenda and Jorge is the point where the Scorch gets people in it. The first film stays in the Glade and the maze, and the second opens with Janson's facility, so the arrival of two locals marks a change in the series.

The crossing toward the mountains is the stretch where he is most present. It follows the loss of Winston to the infection, and it could be argued that the film needs company for the Gladers at that point. Esposito's fourth billing, behind Dylan O'Brien, Kaya Scodelario and Thomas Brodie-Sangster, at least shows how prominent the role is on paper.

The arrival at the Right Arm is the other moment worth watching for, because it ends with the raid, Mary Cooper's death and Teresa's betrayal being exposed. Perhaps Jorge is better remembered as a companion on the road to that turn than as a participant in it. If you want to see where the story goes next, maze runner the death cure picks up with the rescue of Minho, and maze runner movies in order shows where all three films sit.
