Who Composed the Maze Runner Soundtrack?

John Paesano scored all three Maze Runner films, so the saga has one composer from the first film to the last. Each score came out as an album on Sony Classical, and Wes Ball directed every film, so the same two creators stayed in place while the settings moved from the Glade to the Scorch to the Last City.

The Maze Runner (2014). The Maze Runner, directed by Wes Ball, has the album "The Maze Runner (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)". Sony Classical released it on September 12, 2014, with 21 tracks. The cues people search for follow Thomas from the lift into the Glade and then the maze: "What Is This Place?", "My Name Is Thomas", "Banishment", "Into the Maze", "Griever!", "Going Back In" and "Why Are We Different?". The title cue "The Maze Runner" opens the album.

Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials (2015). Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials has the album "Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials". Sony Classical released it on September 11, 2015, with 21 tracks. The best known cues include "Opening", "Your New Lives", "Follow Me", "The Farm", "The Mall", "Cranks!", "The Scorch", "Goodbye" and "Lights".

Maze Runner: The Death Cure (2018). Maze Runner: The Death Cure has the album "Maze Runner: The Death Cure". Sony Classical released it on January 26, 2018, with 22 tracks, the longest of the three. Its standout cues are "Rescue", "We Started This Together", "Overrun Checkpoint", "The Last City", "Teresa's Plea", "Closing In", "An Old Friend", "Lawrence", "The Virus" and "Long Way from the Glade".

Maze Runner Soundtrack List: Albums and Tracks

The Maze Runner films are known for John Paesano's orchestral score rather than for named songs, and each of the three films has a score album with its own track list. No performing artist songs are credited on the albums for The Maze Runner (2014), Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials (2015) or Maze Runner: The Death Cure (2018), so the music that people search for is the cues.

The first album, "The Maze Runner (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)", was released by Sony Classical on September 12, 2014, with 21 tracks. Its early cues include "What Is This Place?", "My Name Is Thomas" and "Ben's Not Right", and the later ones run through "Banishment", "Into the Maze", "Griever!" and "Going Back In". The Scorch Trials album, "Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials", followed on September 11, 2015, also with 21 tracks, among them "Your New Lives", "The Farm", "The Mall", "Cranks!" and "The Scorch". The Death Cure album, "Maze Runner: The Death Cure", came out on January 26, 2018, with 22 tracks including "Rescue", "The Last City", "Teresa's Plea" and "Long Way from the Glade".

The track titles tell the story in order, which makes the three albums easy to follow as a sequence. Our picks: the best songs in the The Maze Runner films (opinion)

These are my own picks, and since the albums are score albums, they are all cues rather than songs with vocals.

  • "The Maze Runner" (2014): in my opinion, the best place to start, because the opening track of the first album sets up the franchise's sound.
  • "Into the Maze" (2014): perhaps the most representative title on the first album, and the one I would play to explain what the series is about.
  • "Griever!" (2014): the exclamation mark in the title suggests an urgent cue, and it is the one I would queue for a quick taste of the action music.
  • "Banishment" (2014): a short, stark title that, in my opinion, deserves a listen in context.
  • "Cranks!" (2015): the most striking title on the Scorch Trials album, and my first choice from that score.
  • "The Last City" (2018): it names the destination of the final film, so it is the natural pick for the Death Cure album.
  • "Long Way from the Glade" (2018): it is a fitting late cue on the last album, since the title looks back to where the story began.

To place the music in the story, the Maze Runner movies in order guide gives the sequence, and the Maze Runner cast page covers the actors on screen. Characters such as Thomas and Newt are good places to start, and the wider series is on the Maze Runner movies hub.
