Pirates of the Caribbean 6: Release Date, Cast and Status
Pirates of the Caribbean 6 is in development at Disney with no release date, no confirmed cast and no announced greenlight as of November 3, 2026. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has said the team is talking with Johnny Depp and working on a screenplay, so a sixth film is being developed but it is not yet filming.
Is Pirates of the Caribbean 6 Coming?
A sixth Pirates of the Caribbean film is in development, but Disney has not announced a greenlight, a cast or a release date. The last entry, dead men tell no tales, reached US theaters on May 26, 2017, directed by Espen Sandberg and Joachim Rønning, so the saga has now been quiet for more than nine years.
The clearest signal came in August 2026. According to TheWrap, Jerry Bruckheimer said at Disney's D23 event that the team is talking with Johnny Depp and working on a screenplay, and that he hopes to get it done. Gulf News reported the same remarks and added that the script is still in development.
There is also the matter of the word "reboot". In March 2024, Bruckheimer said in an interview, "We're gonna reboot Pirates," as carried by NBC News. No studio announcement, cast or date came with that comment. Whether the new film is a true restart or a sixth chapter in the line that began with curse of the black pearl has not been settled in any statement from Disney.
The franchise itself began as a Disneyland attraction that debuted in 1967, and the first film premiered at Disneyland in 2003. If you want the full run of existing films in sequence while you wait, start with pirates of the caribbean movies in order.
Pirates of the Caribbean 6 Cast: Who Is Confirmed?
No actor is confirmed for Pirates of the Caribbean 6. Disney has not announced anyone, and no casting deal has been publicly reported.
That includes the lead. Johnny Depp played jack sparrow in all five existing films, and he is the actor Jerry Bruckheimer has said the team is talking with. Talking is not signing, though, and Gulf News reports that Depp has not confirmed he is on board.
On the crew side, two names are reported but not confirmed. Gulf News names Bruckheimer as producer and Jeff Nathanson as writer, and both remain reported until Disney says otherwise.
The ensemble from the earlier films, including Geoffrey Rush as barbossa, Orlando Bloom as will turner pirates of the caribbean and Keira Knightley as elizabeth swann, has not been tied to the new film in any report. The people behind the first five films are listed under pirates of the caribbean cast.
Pirates of the Caribbean 6 Johnny Depp and Other Rumors
Only two reports about the sixth film are circulating in the sheet's coverage, and both are unconfirmed: Johnny Depp may come back as jack sparrow, and Margot Robbie was once attached to a separate reboot. Gulf News, which reported both on November 3, 2026, is the source for each.
Start with Depp. He told interviewers he is open to one more film so the series can "send them off on a better note". That is an actor describing a mood, and Gulf News is clear that he has not confirmed he has signed on. Status: unconfirmed.
The Robbie story is older. In 2020, Disney was reportedly developing a Pirates reboot led by Robbie while also working on a sixth film in the original line. In 2022 Robbie said Disney was no longer interested in a female led film. Status: unconfirmed, and by her own account no longer active.
In my opinion, the two stories pull in opposite directions. One has the old crew sailing again, the other starts from scratch, and Jerry Bruckheimer's 2024 "reboot" line and his 2026 talk of Depp have never been reconciled by Disney. Until the studio speaks, treat both items as chatter rather than casting news.

What We Know About the Next Pirates of the Caribbean Movie
The firm facts about the next Pirates of the Caribbean movie are short: it is in development, a producer is attached in reports, and it has no date.
Here is the practical picture. Bruckheimer's August 2026 comments at D23 put a screenplay in progress and Depp in conversation, which is the earliest stage of a studio film. Before a release date can appear, Disney still needs a finished script, signed talent and a greenlight. In my opinion, only an official Disney announcement should count as moving the film from "in development" to anything firmer.
Perhaps the biggest open question is not the date but the shape: a sixth chapter after dead men tell no tales, which closed out five main films, or a reboot that starts over. Think of a restaurant announcing a menu before the kitchen is built: the ingredients are named, the chef is being courted and nothing is on the table yet.
If you are new to the series, the wait is a good time to catch up. The five main films are laid out in how many pirates of the caribbean movies, and the pirates of the caribbean movies hub leads on to pirates of the caribbean movies ranked and where to watch pirates of the caribbean.
