Pirates of the Caribbean 6 Trailer: Official or Fan Made?

No, there is no official Pirates of the Caribbean 6 trailer, because the film has no cast, no release date and no studio greenlight. The sixth film is listed as in development, and it is not confirmed as filming. The latest substantive report is from TheWrap on August 16, 2026: producer Jerry Bruckheimer said at Disney's D23 event that the team is talking with Johnny Depp and working on a screenplay, and no deal or cast was confirmed (TheWrap).

Why do so many results claim otherwise? The top search results for this term include videos with titles that pair Johnny Depp with Jenna Ortega or with Margot Robbie, and none of those pairings is an announced casting. If a video does not come from Disney's own channels and carries no date or cast announcement, treat it as unofficial.

The real news is thin, so it helps to separate the confirmed items from the rumors. On March 26, 2024, Bruckheimer said the next Pirates film would be a reboot, in his words "We're gonna reboot Pirates", with no studio announcement, cast or date attached (NBC News). Gulf News reports that Disney has not announced a cast, release date or greenlight, and that the script is still in development. It lists Bruckheimer as producer and Jeff Nathanson as writer, both as reported rather than announced (Gulf News). For the full status, see pirates of the caribbean 6.

Two rumors sit around the casting, and both are unconfirmed. Depp has said he is open to one more film to "send them off on a better note", but he has not confirmed he has signed on. Separately, Disney was reportedly developing a Margot Robbie led reboot in 2020, alongside a sixth film in the original line, and Robbie said in 2022 that Disney was no longer interested in a female led film. Jenna Ortega appears in no sourced report on the film.

The franchise began as the Disneyland attraction that debuted in 1967, and the studio kept that link alive on the red carpet. The first film, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003), directed by Gore Verbinski, premiered at Disneyland on June 28, 2003, ahead of its July 9 US release (D23). Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006) premiered at Disneyland on June 24, 2006, and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (2007) followed there on May 19, 2007. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017), directed by Espen Sandberg and Joachim Rønning, broke the pattern with a world premiere in Shanghai on May 11, 2017.

All five main films have Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow billed first, so the answer to which movies are about Jack Sparrow is every one of them. Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley also return in Dead Men Tell No Tales, billed 14th and 15th. For the order to watch them in, see pirates of the caribbean movies in order, and for streaming, see where to watch pirates of the caribbean.

In my opinion, the first official trailer will have to answer one question before any set piece: is this the Jack Sparrow saga continuing, or the reboot Bruckheimer described in 2024? Those are different pitches, and the fan videos skip the problem by mixing both. A continuation can lean on Depp, a cursed ship and a chase, the way the teaser material for Dead Man's Chest leaned on Davy Jones and the Kraken. A reboot has to introduce a new crew from nothing, much as The Curse of the Black Pearl did in 2003 with a ghost crew, a stolen medallion and a blacksmith racing to rescue Elizabeth Swann.

The money side explains why Disney would take its time. The series budgets climbed from $140 million for The Curse of the Black Pearl to $300 million for At World's End, then settled at $250 million for On Stranger Tides and $230 million for Dead Men Tell No Tales. That last film grossed about $796 million worldwide against $230 million, a long way below the $1.07 billion of Dead Man's Chest, and it is the figure any new trailer has to work against. See pirates of the caribbean box office for every gross.

That being said, the practical test is simple. A real trailer will come from Disney's own channels, and it should arrive with an announced cast, a title and a release date. Trade papers such as Variety and The Hollywood Reporter would be expected to cover it the same day. Until then, the safest assumption is that any clip is unofficial. The franchise hub at pirates of the caribbean movies carries the latest status. Search interest has followed news bursts rather than a season: it peaked in August 2026, the month of the D23 comments, and fell back by October.
