Who Are the Main Characters in Step Up (2006)?

The main characters of Step Up (2006), directed by Anne Fletcher, are Tyler Gage and Nora Clark, played by Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan. Tyler is a gifted street dancer from a rough part of Baltimore who gets by with his friends Mac Carter (Damaine Radcliff) and Skinny Carter (De'Shawn Washington). After the three wreck part of the Maryland School of the Arts, Tyler is sentenced to community service as a janitor there. Nora is a serious ballet student preparing for her senior showcase, and when her partner Andrew is injured, Tyler steps in. Around them sit Director Gordon (Rachel Griffiths), the school head who eventually offers Tyler a place, Nora's ex Brett Dolan (Josh Henderson), and Miles Darby (Mario), the friend Brett betrays to help his own music career. Tyler has his own profile at tyler gage step up and Nora has hers at nora step up.

Who Plays the Characters in Step Up 2: The Streets?

The leads of Step Up 2: The Streets, directed by Jon M. Chu, are Andie West (Briana Evigan) and Chase Collins (Robert Hoffman). Andie is a Baltimore street dancer still grieving her mother, living with her guardian Sarah (Sonja Sohn) and dancing with an unsanctioned crew called the 410. Chase is one of the Maryland School of the Arts' top dancers and helps her win a place there. His older brother Blake Collins (Will Kemp) runs the school, and Tuck (Black Thomas) leads the 410. The same film introduces Moose, played by Adam Sevani, along with Sophie Donovan (Cassie Ventura), Cable (Harry Shum Jr.) and Jenny Kido (Mari Koda). Andie's full profile is at andie step up, and the film itself is covered at step up 2 the streets.

Who Is Moose in the Step Up Movies?

Moose is Robert Alexander III, played by Adam Sevani, and he is the character the saga leans on most when it needs a familiar face. He is billed in Step Up 2: The Streets, takes a leading role in Step Up 3D and returns in Step Up All In. In Step Up 3D he moves to New York City with Camille Gage (Alyson Stoner), promises his father he will give up dancing for engineering, and is pulled into a street battle that leads him to Luke Katcher's crew, the Pirates. At the end of that film Luke passes his sneakers to Moose, which marks him as the new leader. His profile is at moose step up.

Who Are the Main Characters in Step Up 3D?

The main characters of Step Up 3D, also directed by Jon M. Chu, are Natalie (Sharni Vinson), Luke Katcher (Rick Malambri), Moose and Camille. Luke runs the Pirates out of a converted warehouse that is behind on its payments, and he wants to win the World Jam championship to save it. Natalie is a gifted newcomer who hides that she is the sister of Julien (Joe Slaughter), the leader of the rival Samurai crew. Stephen 'tWitch' Boss plays Jason in this film, a name that grows into Jason Hardlerson in the two sequels. The film is covered at step up 3d.

Who Are the Main Characters in Step Up Revolution?

Step Up Revolution, directed by Scott Speer, centers on Sean Asa (Ryan Guzman) and Emily Anderson (Kathryn McCormick) in Miami. Sean leads The Mob, a flash mob crew that takes over public spaces, and works as a hotel waiter by day alongside his best friend Eddy (Misha Gabriel). Emily wants a place in a professional dance company and keeps her family background hidden, because her father, Bill Anderson (Peter Gallagher), is a developer whose plans threaten the neighborhood where the crew gathers. Cleopatra Coleman plays DJ Penelope and Stephen 'tWitch' Boss plays Jason Hardlerson. See sean step up and emily step up revolution for the full profiles, and step up revolution for the film.

Who Is in Step Up All In?

Step Up All In (2014), directed by Trish Sie, works as a reunion, because it puts Sean, Andie, Moose, Camille, Eddy and Jason in the same story. Sean and The Mob move from Miami to Los Angeles and get rejected until Sean teams up with Moose and Andie to form a new crew called the LMNTRIX. The film adds Alexxa Brava (Izabella Miko), the contest host, and the rival Grim Knights. Chaton Anderson plays Sophie and Parris Goebel plays Violet. It is the last film in the main series, covered at step up all in.

Which Step Up Characters Are Female?

The main female Step Up characters are Nora Clark, Andie West, Natalie, Camille Gage and Emily Anderson, and between them they anchor most of the love stories and the grief in the saga. Nora (Jenna Dewan) is the ballet student who clashes with Tyler over style before the pair grow close. Andie (Briana Evigan) is the grieving street dancer who has to keep both her crew and her school. Natalie (Sharni Vinson) quietly arranges a film school place for Luke after the World Jam win. Camille (Alyson Stoner) is Moose's closest friend, with feelings for him that surface in Step Up 3D and All In. Emily (Kathryn McCormick) is the newcomer who joins The Mob. Smaller female roles include Director Gordon (Rachel Griffiths), Sophie Donovan (Cassie Ventura) and Alexxa Brava (Izabella Miko).

Which Step Up Character Died?

Skinny Carter dies on screen in Step Up (2006). Skinny, played by De'Shawn Washington, steals a car from a dangerous local rival and is shot and killed. His death pushes Tyler and Mac to rethink their choices, and Tyler returns for Nora's showcase afterward. Step Up 2: The Streets, for comparison, centers on Andie mourning her mother, who died of cancer before the story begins.

Was Channing Tatum Actually Dancing in Step Up 2?

Channing Tatum appears in Step Up 2: The Streets as Tyler Gage, billed eighth, in a supporting role. In the story Tyler is the friend who urges Andie West to audition for the Maryland School of the Arts. No studio or trade outlet describes how much dancing he did on screen in that film, so the plain answer is that he returns as the character from the first film, and his main dancing story belongs to Step Up (2006).

Who Plays Kido, and Did Mario Play in Step Up?

Mari Koda plays Jenny Kido in Step Up 2: The Streets, billed fourteenth. Mario did appear in Step Up (2006), playing Miles Darby, the friend whom Brett betrays. Both are supporting roles, and neither character is a lead.

Why Do the Step Up Characters Keep Changing? An Opinion

In my opinion, the saga works best when you read its characters as a relay rather than a single cast, with each film handing a baton to someone who was standing at the edge of the last one. The pattern starts with Step Up (2006), where Tyler walks into the Maryland School of the Arts as a janitor and leaves with a place there after dancing Nora's ensemble routine at her senior showcase. Step Up 2: The Streets then flips the same school-versus-street clash onto Andie, and it is Tyler himself who nudges her toward the audition, so the first hero becomes the mentor. That being said, the two films feel quite different in tone, since Andie's story is built on grief for her mother and a crew, the 410, that throws her out the moment she enrolls.

Moose is the real thread, and it could be argued that he is the saga's most useful invention. He arrives as a supporting player in Step Up 2: The Streets, carries Step Up 3D as the reluctant engineer who has promised his father to stop dancing, and then returns in Step Up All In as the friend who helps Sean build the LMNTRIX. The sneaker handoff at the end of Step Up 3D, when Luke gives Moose his shoes and so names him the new leader of the Pirates, is the clearest example of the relay idea on screen. Camille Gage works the same way in a quieter manner, because she is in Step Up (2006), Step Up 3D and All In, and her feelings for Moose give two otherwise separate films a shared thread.

The move to Miami in Step Up Revolution is the biggest reset. Instead of a school, the setting is a flash mob crew, The Mob, staging street takeovers such as the one on Ocean Drive, and the stakes shift from a showcase to a neighborhood under threat from Emily's father. Production context points the same way: Step Up 3D was made in 3D and Step Up Revolution was reported to be shot natively in 3D with Red Epic cameras, so the later films were designed around big group set pieces rather than the intimate rehearsal rooms of the original. Step Up All In (2014) then collapses these separate worlds into one reunion, with Sean and Andie landing the trick that caused their fight. If you are new to the saga, I would start with Tyler and Nora, because everything after is built from that school-versus-street idea.

Where Are They Now, and What About the TV Series?

The Step Up characters do not age along a single shared timeline, because each sequel moves to a new city and a new crew. For what the cast did after the films, the step up cast page is the place to start. The saga also continued on television with Step Up: High Water, which TheWrap reported in 2020 had moved from YouTube to Starz. It is a series rather than a film.

If you are choosing where to begin, the step up movies in order page lays out the viewing sequence, and the step up timeline page follows the story from Tyler's community service through to the Vortex finals in Las Vegas.
