Step Up Movies in Order: Release and Chronological Order

The Step Up movies in order are Step Up (2006), Step Up 2: The Streets, Step Up 3D, Step Up Revolution and Step Up All In, and the release order and the chronological order are exactly the same. That makes five films released between 2006 and 2014, about 8 hours and 40 minutes of dancing in total, and a sixth film has no confirmed release date. If you are choosing tonight's film for the family or revisiting the series you grew up on, the sections that follow cover the returning faces and a clear place to begin.

About the Release Order

The Step Up movies in order of release are five theatrical films, running from Step Up (2006) in August 2006 to Step Up All In in August 2014. Each film in the list comes with its director, US release date, runtime and leads, so you can see at a glance who you are about to spend an evening with.

  1. Step Up (2006), directed by Anne Fletcher, released in the US on August 11, 2006 and running 104 minutes. Channing Tatum plays Tyler Gage, a street dancer from Baltimore, and Jenna Dewan plays Nora Clark, a ballet student at the Maryland School of the Arts (profile: nora step up). Start here with the step up 2006 page.
  2. Step Up 2: The Streets, directed by Jon M. Chu, released on February 14, 2008 and running 98 minutes. Briana Evigan plays Andie West, Robert Hoffman plays Chase Collins and Adam Sevani appears as Moose. The step up 2 the streets page has the detail.
  3. Step Up 3D, directed by Jon M. Chu, released on August 6, 2010 and running 107 minutes. Sharni Vinson plays Natalie, Rick Malambri plays Luke Katcher and Adam Sevani returns as Moose in New York City. See step up 3d.
  4. Step Up Revolution, directed by Scott Speer, released on July 27, 2012 and running 99 minutes. Kathryn McCormick plays Emily Anderson (profile: emily step up revolution) and Ryan Guzman plays Sean Asa, who leads a Miami crew called The Mob. See step up revolution.
  5. Step Up All In, directed by Trish Sie, released on August 8, 2014 and running 112 minutes. Briana Evigan and Ryan Guzman return as Andie and Sean, with Adam Sevani back as Moose. See step up all in.

If you are searching for the Step Up movies in order with Moose, the answer is three films: Step Up 2: The Streets, Step Up 3D and Step Up All In. Adam Sevani plays Robert Alexander III, known as Moose, in all three, and he is not among the top billed cast of Step Up (2006) or Step Up Revolution. The moose step up profile follows him across the series.

What about the television side? Step Up: High Water is a series, not a film, so it has no place in the numbered list. TheWrap reported in May 2020 that it moved from YouTube to Starz.

Where does the Chinese-produced film fit? Step Up: Year of the Dance (2019), a spin-off that people often search for as Step Up China, is the most recent Step Up film overall. It sits outside the five main saga films counted here, so it is not part of this numbered list. Separately, a Chinese-language Step Up 6 was reported years ago, and no studio or trade source has confirmed it as a current project.

Is the main list likely to grow? Step Up All In is the latest film in the main series, and a sixth film has no confirmed release date, with its status still to be confirmed (see step up 6). For the full count, the how many step up movies page keeps the tally, and the step up movies hub covers the whole series.

About the Chronological Order

The Step Up chronological order is identical to the release order, because the five films play out on screen in the same sequence in which they reached theaters. There is no prequel to slot in early and no flashback film to move, which makes this one of the easier series to line up.

FilmRelease positionChronological positionFamiliar faces from earlier films
Step Up (2006)11None, this is the first film
Step Up 2: The Streets22Channing Tatum as Tyler Gage
Step Up 3D33Adam Sevani as Moose and Alyson Stoner as Camille Gage
Step Up Revolution44Stephen 'tWitch' Boss, who also appears in Step Up 3D
Step Up All In55Briana Evigan as Andie West, Ryan Guzman as Sean Asa, Adam Sevani as Moose, Alyson Stoner as Camille Gage

The series works like a relay more than a single story. Each film brings in a new lead and a new crew, then hands a few familiar dancers across to the next one. Tyler Gage, played by Channing Tatum, opens the series and returns in Step Up 2: The Streets as the friend who urges Andie to audition for the Maryland School of the Arts. Moose and Camille arrive in New York City in Step Up 3D, and in All In Sean and Moose build a new crew in Los Angeles for The Vortex contest.

As such, the only real link you need to keep in mind is the one between Step Up Revolution and Step Up All In. Sean Asa and his crew, The Mob, leave Miami for Los Angeles at the start of All In, so watching Revolution first means their arrival makes sense. Anyone who wants the story in a single line of events can use the step up timeline page, and the profiles of tyler gage step up, andie step up and sean step up explain who is who.

The cast question comes up often, so here is the plain answer: Jenna Dewan plays Nora Clark in Step Up (2006) and is not among the top 15 credited cast of the other four films. For the full lists, see step up cast.

Where Should You Start with Step Up? My Pick

In my opinion, start with Step Up (2006) and watch all five in order, because the series rewards patience and the returning faces land harder when you have met them first. It could be argued that this is the obvious answer, but, the films build a small ensemble over eight years, and Moose's journey from Step Up 2: The Streets to All In is the best reason to follow the order.

If time is short, my second pick is Step Up 2: The Streets. Andie West arrives as a newcomer, Tyler Gage returns to urge her to audition for the Maryland School of the Arts, and the story stands on its own, so you lose very little by skipping the first film. Jon M. Chu also directed Step Up 3D, which is the natural next step for anyone who wants more of Moose. By contrast, Step Up Revolution and All In pair up best, since they share Sean and The Mob. If a dance sequence is all you want tonight, the best step up dance scenes page and the step up dance crews page are a faster route, and step up movies ranked gives my full ordering by quality rather than by date.

Parents should know what the official ratings say. All five films are rated PG-13 in the US and PG in Australia. In the UK, the first two are rated PG and the last three are rated 12. Those are the board ratings, not my own, so check them against the age of the viewers in your house.

What about streaming? As of November 3, 2026, JustWatch data through TMDB shows that none of the five films is listed on Netflix in the US, UK or Australia. In the US, Step Up Revolution and Step Up All In stream free with ads on Tubi, while Step Up (2006), Step Up 2: The Streets and Step Up 3D are rent or buy only. In the UK, Step Up (2006) is on Lionsgate+ as an Amazon Channel, and in Australia Step Up 2: The Streets is on Paramount Plus. Availability changes, so open the where to watch step up page for your country, then press play on Step Up (2006).
