Who Is in the Underworld Cast?

The Underworld cast revolves around Kate Beckinsale as Selene, a vampire Death Dealer who leads four of the five films, with a changing group of vampires, Lycans and humans around her. Underworld (2003), directed by Len Wiseman, opens with Beckinsale beside Scott Speedman as the human medical resident Michael Corvin, Michael Sheen as the Lycan Lucian, Shane Brolly as Kraven and Bill Nighy as the elder Viktor. Erwin Leder plays Singe, Sophia Myles plays Erika, Robbie Gee plays Kahn, Wentworth Miller appears as Dr. Adam Lockwood and Kevin Grevioux plays Raze.

The leading billed names in each film show how the ensemble shifts from entry to entry.

Who plays the vampire girl? The vampire most people mean is Selene, played by Beckinsale, and the young girl she meets in Awakening is her daughter Eve, played by India Eisley. Both have pages: selene underworld and eve underworld.

The villains change with each film. Shane Brolly's Kraven leads the coven and clashes with Selene in the first film, Tony Curran's Marcus Corvinus wakes early in Evolution and kills Kraven and his men, and Tobias Menzies leads the Lycans as Marius in Blood Wars, while Lara Pulver's Semira persuades the council to pardon Selene in an offer that turns out to be a trap. Who Directed the Underworld Movies and Who Scored Them?

Four directing credits cover the five films: Len Wiseman directed Underworld (2003) and Underworld: Evolution, Patrick Tatopoulos directed Rise of the Lycans, Måns Mårlind and Björn Stein directed Awakening as a pair, and Anna Foerster directed Blood Wars.

The 2003 production was based in Budapest. Screen Daily describes Rise of the Lycans as Tatopoulos's first feature as director, with Wiseman producing, and credits him with creature design on all three films up to that point. That film was largely shot in New Zealand, and the Czech Republic hosted the Blood Wars shoot.

The music changed hands less often than the direction. Paul Haslinger scored Underworld (2003), Rise of the Lycans and Awakening, Marco Beltrami scored Evolution, and Michael Wandmacher scored Blood Wars. For more on the music, see the underworld soundtrack page.

Which Underworld Cast Members Returned, and Who Was Recast?

Beckinsale is the only lead to carry the series, since she plays Selene in the first, second, fourth and fifth films and is absent only from Rise of the Lycans, a prequel set long before the events of the first film. That absence explains the shape of the cast list. Rhona Mitra steps in as Sonja, Viktor's daughter, and Michael Sheen, Bill Nighy and Shane Brolly all carry their characters back to the earlier timeline as Lucian, Viktor and Kraven. Nighy and Sheen each play their role in three films, which makes them the most consistent supporting pair in the saga.

Other returns are quieter. Steven Mackintosh plays Andreas Tanis in both Evolution and Rise of the Lycans, Kevin Grevioux plays Raze in the first film and the prequel, and Scott Speedman plays Michael Corvin in the first two films only. Theo James and Charles Dance, meanwhile, join as David and Thomas in Awakening and stay for Blood Wars, which gives the later films a second ensemble that does not depend on the original three.

Is anyone recast? The clearest case in the credits is Amelia, played by Zita Görög in the first two films and by Sveta Driga in Blood Wars. Most other roles simply vanish as the story moves on, and in my opinion that is why the first film still feels the deepest, with Beckinsale, Speedman, Sheen and Nighy all sharing the same story at once.

What about the cast now? No cast has been announced for a new film. Len Wiseman told EW in 2023 that the future of the series was a TV project, according to ComicBook.com, with no studio greenlight or date. In January 2026 CBR reported that Beckinsale said she will not return as Selene because she could not work with the rights holders, and the same article floated a film built around Eve as its own speculation. A September 2026 CBR piece contradicts this, saying she sealed a return while also quoting her saying one is not possible, and no trade outlet confirms it. Treat all of it as unconfirmed, and follow underworld 6 for any change.
