Quicksilver X-Men: Peter Maximoff, Evan Peters and His Films
Quicksilver in the X-Men films is Peter Maximoff, a super fast mutant played by Evan Peters in X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014), X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) and Dark Phoenix (2019). The credits place the character in four films in all, because Deadpool 2 (2018) also lists him further down its cast, and he joins the new X-Men team at the end of Apocalypse.
Who Plays Peter Maximoff / Quicksilver?
Who Is Quicksilver in the X-Men Movies?
Quicksilver is Peter Maximoff, the super fast mutant of the Fox X-Men films, and Evan Peters plays him in Days of Future Past, Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix. The credits vary slightly: he is "Peter / Quicksilver" in X-Men: Days of Future Past and "Peter Maximoff / Quicksilver" in X-Men: Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix. A fourth credit sits further down the cast list of Deadpool 2 (2018), directed by David Leitch, as "Quicksilver (uncredited)", so the character appears in four films, not three.
If you are asking who the super fast guy in X-Men is, this is the answer. He does not appear in the original trilogy that starts with X-Men (2000). He belongs to the younger cast that began with X-Men: First Class, alongside James McAvoy's Charles Xavier and Michael Fassbender's Erik Lehnsherr, and that is why his story is tied so closely to Magneto.
The name also belongs to the Avengers films, where Quicksilver is a separate Marvel Studios version linked to Wanda Maximoff. Evan Peters' Peter Maximoff is a different take on the character, built for a different universe. For the wider ensemble, see the X-Men cast and the X-Men characters index.
Peter Maximoff / Quicksilver Films
Quicksilver in X-Men: Days of Future Past, Apocalypse and Dark PhoenixSpoilers
Quicksilver's story runs through four films, from a one job recruit in 1973 to a member of the new team in 1983, then a place in the 1992 ensemble, plus a further credit in Deadpool 2.
X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014), directed by Bryan Singer. The plot sends Wolverine's mind back to 1973 to stop Mystique from killing Bolivar Trask, the death that started the Sentinel program. Magneto is locked in a deep Pentagon cell, and the team needs him out, so they recruit the fast moving Quicksilver to help with the break out. Evan Peters is billed fourteenth here, in a film that carries both the original and the First Class casts. The movie took about $746 million worldwide against a $200 million budget, according to Box Office Mojo, and its US opening weekend was about $91 million.
X-Men: Apocalypse (2016), also directed by Bryan Singer. Peter returns in 1983 as Peter Maximoff / Quicksilver, now billed seventh. The film follows En Sabah Nur, who wakes after thousands of years and recruits Storm, Psylocke and Angel, while Erik Lehnsherr is pushed into joining him as a fourth Horseman after losing his family in Poland. Peter's thread is his hidden link to Erik, and the ending says he keeps it to himself for the moment. Hank and Raven then train a new team made up of Scott, Jean, Ororo, Kurt and Peter. The film earned about $544 million worldwide, per Box Office Mojo.
Deadpool 2 (2018). The credits list Quicksilver as "Quicksilver (uncredited)" well down the cast, so it is a minor credit next to the other three.
Dark Phoenix (2019), directed by Simon Kinberg. Peter is billed seventh again. The story is set in 1992, when the X-Men rescue a space shuttle crew and Jean Grey absorbs a cosmic force that makes her stronger and less stable. The film grossed about $252 million worldwide.
Quicksilver's Relationships: Magneto, Xavier and the Team
Quicksilver's most important relationship is with Magneto, and the films treat it as a secret rather than an announcement. In Days of Future Past, Peter is the means of getting Erik out of the deep Pentagon cell where he is held. In Apocalypse, the closing scenes have Peter keeping his connection to Erik to himself, while Erik helps rebuild the school but turns down an offer to stay as a teacher.
His ties to the Xavier side of the story are more practical. Charles Xavier, Hank McCoy and Logan are the ones who bring Peter into the 1973 mission, and by the end of Apocalypse Hank and Raven are training him alongside Scott Summers, Jean Grey, Ororo Munroe and Kurt Wagner. That puts Peter inside the school's next generation of X-Men, which answers whether he has ever been part of the team.
Dark Phoenix credits Evan Peters as Peter Maximoff / Quicksilver once more, billed seventh. For the other leading figures, see Magneto, Professor X and Mystique.
Does Quicksilver Die? His Fate in the X-Men Films and AvengersSpoilers
Quicksilver is never killed in the Fox films that feature him, and the last time the saga shows him he is alive and in training. The Apocalypse ending leaves Peter standing in the school with Scott, Jean, Ororo and Kurt, under the eye of Hank and Raven. Dark Phoenix, set in 1992, gives its deaths to other characters, and Raven is the one who falls in that film.
Days of Future Past also matters here, because its closing timeline erases the Sentinel future entirely. Peter's 1973 job is finished by then, so the story leaves him with no grim end waiting in the background.
The death that fans usually ask about belongs to the Quicksilver of the Avengers films, a separate Marvel Studios take tied to Wanda Maximoff. The Fox films do not explain or repeat it, and Evan Peters' Peter Maximoff has no equivalent scene.
Looking ahead, Marvel Studios is developing its own X-Men film, dated for May 5, 2028 in US theaters with Jake Schreier directing, according to TheWrap. The D23 cast announcement on August 14, 2026 named Christopher Abbott, Sadie Sink, Kit Connor, Samara Weaving, Inde Navarrette, Maya Boyd and Adam Driver, yet the report does not say who plays whom, so no Quicksilver casting is confirmed. Best Quicksilver Moments in the X-Men Movies
In my opinion, the Pentagon break out in Days of Future Past is still his best moment, because it gives the audience a clear reason for the character to exist: the team needs Magneto freed from a deep cell, and Quicksilver is the one they recruit to help. It also arrives in a film that has to juggle two casts and a time travel plot, so a short, self contained set piece is a welcome change of pace.
Perhaps his quietest strong beat is the end of Apocalypse, where Peter keeps his link to Erik to himself while Hank and Raven assemble the new team. It could be argued that this is a better use of the character than a big action showcase, since it ties him to the saga's central friendship between Xavier and Magneto without spelling it out.
That being said, the billing tells its own story: he goes from fourteenth in Days of Future Past to seventh in both Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix. If you are new to the character, start with X-Men: Days of Future Past, and then move to X-Men: Apocalypse.
